Beats BANK TRUST LIMITED FINANCIAL arena.

Any logo with an animate object on it is much better than most of the names out there.

Red Wings value experience in assistant coaching search, have spoken to several candidates

DETROIT ? The Detroit Red Wings expect to move fairly quickly in hiring an assistant coach, making a decision in the next couple of weeks, if not sooner, general manager Ken Holland said Wednesday.

"(Coach) Jeff Blashill and I have gone over a bunch of names. We've interviewed a couple of people," Holland said. "Jeff Blashill also has talked to a number of other people. Does it lead to an interview process? That's to be determined."

The Red Wings are replacing Tony Granato, who after two seasons with the organization took the head coaching job at Wisconsin, his alma mater.

Holland said they will hire an assistant with extensive NHL experience.

"We lost a guy with a lot of experience in Tony Granato," Holland said. "We want to replace him with someone with a lot of experience." (Mlive)

Some possibilities are; Marc Crawford, Todd Richards, Guy Boucher, Mike Yeo, Doug Houda, Paul MacLean, Trent Yawney, and John Torchetti.

Some of those guy's would probably be better HC's than assistants.

Ya, ive been following that. Bedard been there over 25 years i think. Ferchweiler gets the best gig of all... a on the payroll sit down job in the press boxes... must be nice.

I was worried Crawford would be in Detroit, but glad he got a gig in Ottawa, i think. Blashill finally realizing things need shaking up in the city of the Winged Wheel. I wonder if Holland can feel the pressure too. Wings have some humugassed decisions to make in a short period of time, in my opinion, or the Red Wheels will fall off or go flat or something.

DETROIT ? Doug Houda is returning to the organization that drafted him 32 years ago ? this time as an assistant coach.

Reports coming out of Russia - Pavel Datsyuk "agreed" to a two-year deal with Petersburg SKA.

This really makes it look like he is probably gone from Detroit.

Neither confirmed nor denied that this vehicle was seen entering the JLA with many gallons of red and white vehicle paint aboard

There's a beat writer for the Detroit news claiming the reports about Datsyuk are false. So, we will have to wait and see whats going on.

I'm guessing they just want to get him to waive a trade clause or honor some behindtheback deal. Detroit attempts to get a 7th/cond 2nd to skirt the cap hit like Boston did with Thomas. Worst case, Detroit could add one of their redundant prospects and/or take on some bad money in return.

DETROIT ?Tomas Nosek won't compile impressive statistics, but he is responsible defensively. And that's why he appears to have a future in the NHL.

The Detroit Red Wings signed Nosek to a two-year contract on Friday.

Nosek, 23, is projected as a checking-line center in the NHL. He had 15 goals and 15 assists in 70 games for the Grand Rapids Griffins this past season. He had one point (a goal) in nine playoff games.

The first year is a two-way deal ($575,000 NHL salary, $150,000 AHL salary) and the second year is one way ($650,00).

Red Wings assistant general manager Ryan Martin said the team likes Nosek's size (6-2, 201) and defensive awareness.

"He's a guy that Jeff Blashill has a lot of trust and confidence in because he coached him in the AHL (in 2014-15) and saw how responsible he is," Martin said. "His stat line isn't dazzling, but the coaching staff has confidence in his ability to play defense and be on the right side of the puck. And he's a good penalty killer." (Mlive)

The Detroit Red Wings today signed left wing Dylan Sadowy to a three-year entry-level contract.

The Wings just traded for this guy, right? I think he was due to go back into the draft and the other team got what they could for him. For the Wings, giving up a third for this guy is probably a good move as he looks more likely to hit the NHL a lot sooner than the 18 year old they would have taken with the pick.

    Update - I checked the hockeydb.com:
    Dylan Sadowy

The Wings have a prospect now that will be 21 when the asset they gave up, ('17 3rd), is selected at 18. Third rounders have about a 25% of ever skating in the NHL, but you have to figure that DET thinks his odds are better than that otherwise they'd hold on to the future.

It's not exactly like the old days when they got All-Stars in the late rounds, but this is how winning teams are built.

I guess these deals are done because the Wings management thinks their not to far from the big show. They, ( Nosek and Sadowy) are more than likely going to get seasoned in Grand Rapids this year and might see some PT later in the season... I dont know.
