DETROIT -- Blake Comeau scored in regulation and got the deciding goal in the fourth round of the shootout to give the Colorado Avalanche a 3-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings .
DETROIT - Pavel Datsyuk had two goals and an assist to surpass 900 points for his NHL career and Henrik Zetterberg had two goals and an assist, including the game winner in the third period to give the Detroit Red Wings a 6-5 win against the Boston Bruins at Joe Louis Arena on Sunday. "For me it's a big stepping stone, but it [doesn't] happen without lots of good players I am playing with," said Datsyuk , who has 902 points. "Lots of helping and supporting, and lots of teaching me, too. Lots of giving me advice. I appreciate all of them." Datsyuk is the sixth Red Wings player with 900 points. The others are Gordie Howe, Steve Yzerman, Alex Delvecchio, Nicklas Lidstrom and Sergei Fedorov. Each of the other five are in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Darren Helm scored twice for Detroit (29-18-9). Justin Abdelkader and Brad Richards each had two assists and Petr Mrazek, who celebrated his 24th birthday Sunday, made 17 saves. "It looked like 1986 not 2016. It was an interesting game," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "Obviously right off the bat, it was crazy. I thought from a process standpoint we actually did some good stuff. It just seemed like pucks kept going in the net both ways."
Anyone that can should get to the Joe if they possibly can. For me, it's my favorite venue in all of sports. I've heard good things about the new rink in Detroit, but I do not how they'll be able to retain all the Joe's ambiance. Road trip!
My nephew and his friend go there all the time. All I hear is good reports. Ive never been there. Ive been to Detroit to see baseball dozens of times throughout the years, just havnt seen the Wings. Photos, of course, reveal some very nice things. Its a shame some of the old venues have to go, but they are really going all out on the new arena and it will be state of the art . I used to go to Tigers stadium regularly, I miss it dearly, but Comerica Park is a thing of beauty also. I frequent ECHL hockey at the Hunnington Center here in Toledo... its real nice too. Its a new building and is really done right. Maybe one of these days i'll see an NHL game... should add that to the 'to do list'.
Detroit Red Wings notes: Niklas Kronwall has first full practice; Jonathan Ericsson remains out... DETROIT ? Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall described Wednesday as a good day as he took part in his first full practice with the team since having arthroscopic knee surgery on Jan. 18. Kronwall won't play Thursday in Pittsburgh and said it's difficult to tell if he'll be ready for the weekend ? Saturday in Ottawa and Sunday at the New York Rangers. He said he's day-to-day. "I felt pretty good, actually," Kronwall said. "Let's come back tomorrow morning and see how it feels. Hopefully it feels good and we'll go at it again and then we'll go from there. Conditioning-wise, felt pretty good. I've been skating with (strength and conditioning coach) Mike Kadar for a few practices and I'm going to keep doing that as well. And then the last thing is just getting the timing down in all kinds of different situations out there." Kronwall has missed 12 games. "It was obviously very exciting to be with the guys again," Kronwall said. "I was saying to somebody it's something that you lose sight of. When you're playing you're kind of taking everything for granted. Once you've been out for a little bit you get back to that feeling (and) just how much you enjoy it." Kronwall hasn't played nearly as well this season as he has throughout his career, but he said the knee was not affecting his performance. "I can't say that it was bad all season," Kronwall said. "Started sometime in mid-December, when it got to a point where we started talking about possibly having something done. So it was about 4-5 weeks." Coach Jeff Blashill said, "We can see that he's making strides and closer to being ready, so we'll continue to evaluate it day to day." (MLIVE)
Blashill said Petr Mrazek will start in Pittsburgh. He doesn't anticipate any other changes. So Jakub Kindl and Teemu Pulkkinen will be scratched. It will be the eighth game in a row Pulkkinen has been sat out, since Feb. 3. "There's give and take with that," Blashill said. "To get him in, you have to take somebody else out. As we kind of saw with (Brendan Smith) and Kindl, once we stopped rotating it kind of helped Smitty to be able to really get his game in order. As long as we like the results of the guys we have in, we'll stay with that for now. "It's not easy to go a long time without playing, that's for certain. He's going to have to stay strong mentally and make sure if he does get the opportunity that he's prepared to go in and play real well."
