damn the Lerg!!!!! he beat what Id call the best BC squad in history in the NCAA finals. Abdelkader scored to go up 2-1 w/ 20 seconds left. Lerg was a monster in that game. http://www.uscho.com/box/mens-hockey/2007/04/07/michigan-state-vs-boston-college/ BC beat North Dakota (Toews and Oshie) in the semis that year. I remember thinking that semi was essentially the final. thought wrong. Gotta also give Rick Comley credit for that win. I think the MSU game plan was perfect for the situation and they executed it so well. Rare to see uncle Jerry take one on the chin like that but Comley had his number that night. so very long story short, DAMN YOU LERG!!!!!!!
I'm going to toot my own horn for a moment; some blithe comments I made the other day has generated a lot of good commentary on the Wings board. I certainly learned a lot more than if I was stuck listening to my own thoughts. I'll add another blithe comment: be aware of any Sabres GM offering up his goods in trade.
It was dark times for Chicago hockey (3rd overall that wasn't NHL ready and the top of the 2007 lotto didn't look as good as recent years) Can't believe this was almost a decade ago. Matty was lucky BC won next year, same with the Bruins winning the year after the Bruins blew a 3-0 series lead. That's a Boston fan that doesn't know enough pain.
Tying redwings to Abby to MichST to BC to Buffalo's trading history, are you suggesting Colin White is going to bust because he was a pick traded from Buffalo? Holy sheepshiite Dan, I'm thinking on Buffalo trades. Hogdson Pominville Miller/Sideshow Steve Roy Stafford/Armia/Myers Brennan Regehr Leopold Zad/Grigs/Compher Flynn Neuvirth Enroth Adam McNabb Moulson Vanek *WRITE* About the only players that did well leaving Buffalo in recent years have been 4th liner Torrey Mitchell and Sekera (who have not been a part of anything except disappointment). I'm sure I'm missing a number of names from this decade. It appears that Buffalo may not win the trade, but their partner is sure as hell going to lose.
That Vanek trade was a douzy! It's a little early to know about the outcome for Buffalo; we are perilously too close to 30th place for any claims to success. At least the team is starting to look like a bad NHL team instead of a bad AHL team. (And, we have Eichel and Reinhart to show for our heartburn.) I think the LAK have been happy with McNabb, at least happy enough. MTL only gave up a 5th and a 7th for our cast-offs, Flynn and someone else.
Back to Detroit, Kenny has made a move for 4 deadlines straight 2015-Cole, ZIdlicky 2014-Legwand 2013-the immortal Kent Huskins (not sure if this even counts) 2012-Quincey
I couldn't be at the game tonight, but I will be there for the next meeting in mid-March. I'll make sure to shout at Detroit fans extra-loud, so everyone here can hear it
lol, sounds like a lot of fun. Great crowd at the game last night. Sure is nice to see that, especially as well as the Panthers are playing. Congrats on the win too. Panthers are impressive. Amazing to watch play and he's so freekin' young. He was the bright side for Detroit last night.
DETROIT - Dylan Larkin and Tomas Tatar had a goal and an assist each to help the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-1 win against the New York Islanders at Joe Louis Arena on Saturday. Tomas Jurco, Kyle Quincey and Mike Green scored for Detroit (26-18-8), which ended a five-game home losing streak (0-4-1). The Red Wings hadn't won at Joe Louis Arena since Dec. 20. Pavel Datsyuk, Gustav Nyquist and Brad Richards had two assists each. Petr Mrazek made 28 saves. "Obviously it's imperative that we get wins here at home," Green said. "We haven't been getting our points here at home and it was a big night for us to sort of get in the right direction and I thought the guys played really well tonight and Petr stood on his head. Detroit hadn't scored five goals in a game since Dec. 5.
Building a market for a team is tough, down here, with all the variables unique to the area. But like anywhere else, a fan base is built by winning. Some teams did it WAY back in the day, and it's just carried forward, but that's how they did it. The Panthers are building that fan base down here now. The population is quickly sharing in the hype, and people who have never watched hockey before are starting to get into it. It's becoming noticeable, and I only anticipate that support growing. And it's supported by exactly what you said - the crowd at that game was great, to the point that the local commentators were being drowned out by unison chants and cheers. It's great stuff. Thanks, man. It's definitely some awesome hockey they're playing, this year. They are so much fun to watch and follow. I am so psyched that this team is finally coming into its own. As opposed to previous years, where it'd be fun to watch but the result wouldn't always be there, this year there's the anticipation that this team is for real, and is a legitimate threat come playoff time. That's a great feeling. To Detroit's credit, as much as I may loathe them given their relation to the Panthers, they are a good team. They're such a fast team, and have some outstandingly talented young players. Not only was Larkin awesome to watch, and should be great for you guys going forward, but the team as a whole played good, clean hockey. That was one of the very few clean games I've seen this year, with both teams just trying to play good hockey. Credit to the Red Wings. As much as I may hope they lose, I don't disrespect them. That was a great game to watch. Hopefully we get two more of those, this season. That's the hockey I want to see. Buying my tickets for the Red Wings and Bruins games down here as I write this. Cheers.
Good time to catch the Panthers, they have to be down on themselves after getting punked by Denver last night. Oh, wait... different sport. Never mind. Wings starting to call up more youth from GR; the future is near.
