anyone have any thoughts on how this whole goalie thing will play out this year w Howie and Mrazek? who starts the season? does Howard get traded? who would you guys start? just broke the record for most questions in a single post
Trade Howard? Sure, that's easy except for two more nagging questions: To who?, and For what? They're better off holding on to him with the hope that some team gets desperate for a G. I think Blashill wants to act decisively to put his stamp on this team - that would be another reason to move Howard. The problem is there is just not much of a market for him right now.
agreed, but heres the more nagging question: who has a backup goalie making 5.3? I have close to zero confidence in Holland but I have to think he threw a line out this summer and no one bit. I honestly dont think the Wings get much for him unless its at the deadline next year and like you said someone is desperate. this could get dicey
this part I think will play out much differently. the comments and the way things went down with Babs to me indicates Kenny wants someone he has more control over. I really think he wants a 'company man' that will roll with the punches. towards the end I think Babcock maybe made some waves and that didnt sit well w Holland or Illitch. I personally liked that checks and balances type of arrangement. unfortunately for me, Holland now has carte blanche *WALL*
I think Detroit lulls themselves into believing their bullshit that it does not matter what you pay each player, it's how much cap space you allocate to the G spot that matters. (If halo is reading, yeah, I expressed it that way on purpose.) The reality is that they cannot just give away Howard, and they probably better off with him than some other bad contract they'd have to take back in trade. I'm a little more impressed with Ken than most. I also think Blashill is a possible upgrade behind the bench for the Wings. This may be the season they finally sit out the real season, but I think they're positioned to reload in a hurry. I'm just bummed that all the Sabres dates in DET are not good for my engineered business travel.
Howard would be my starter till the wheels fall off, then a capable Mrazek steps in when needed. It's J-Ho's gig to win or lose.
Detroit Red Wings forwards Darren Helm and Jerome Verrier sustained injuries when they collided Friday during a drill on the first day of training camp in Traverse City, Mich. Helm was taken to a hospital for the NHL's concussion protocol, and coach Jeff Blashill said he'll miss at least a week. ?With the concussion protocol he?ll be, I guess we say day to day but it?s probably a little bit longer than that,? he said when asked about Helm?s return, according to the Red Wings website. Verrier had to be removed from the ice on a stretcher and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was diagnosed with a broken leg and will have surgery on Saturday. The 21-year-old is a free agent trying to earn a contract with the Red Wings. He played two games for Detroit in the Traverse City Prospects Tournament. Helm and Verrier were going at full speed when they collided headfirst during a drill. ?Unfortunately we weren?t able to give heads up to either guy soon enough,? Blashill said. (NHL.com)
fuck. i just hope there's no concussion involved. if there is, i don't care if it was helm's fault, i'll track this verrier down and break his other leg.
Verrier's name looks familiar. Was he a camp invited in previous years or drafted by a different team?
I found him on a 2014 training camp roster. I'm not sure if it was him or a relative that was familiar. Doesn't matter. I always find it amuzing if guys that shouldn't be there are responsible for causing problems. This guy checks out so far.
COLUMBUS -- One of hockey's oldest rivalries and two Western Conference cities hosting an NHL outdoor game for the first time will be highlights of the 2015-16 season after NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced the League's upcoming outdoor schedule Saturday at Nationwide Arena. The Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens will play at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on Jan. 1 in the Bridgestone 2016 NHL Winter Classic. There will be two Coors Light Stadium Series games in 2015-16. The first will be Feb. 21 at TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. That game will feature the Minnesota Wild and the Chicago Blackhawks. Six days later, the Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings will play at Coors Field in Denver.
Many teams travel well when it comes to fan support on the road. The Sabres are one of them. However, it is my observation (not a fact, necessarily), that the Red Wings travel the best of any team. They need an outdoor venue to find enough seats for all the DET fans that will be at this game in Denver. I may just have to get to this game.
I hope you can get there... sounds like a great game and venue. Coors Field is a great place for a hockey game and i hope the Avs and Red Wings can renue their old rivalry. It used to a big event when the Avs and Wings got together.
I approve of Detroit-Col. If they have to have non Winclassic outdoor games, I prefer they be out of conference teams.
