I wuz rootin' fer da wings last night FTL, sorry to see you guys get knocked, would have loved a repeat of 2009
DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk said today that he hopes to sign a contract extension with the club this summer, putting to rest rumors and speculation that he will return to Russia in 2014, when his NHL contract expires. The Red Wings cleaned out their lockers today at Joe Louis Arena and Datsyuk said he wants to remain in North America for at least a few more seasons. He would still like to finish his career in Russia, but that still is years away, he indicated. Sure will be nice to know the Wings will have Pavel around for awhile
http://www.freep.com/article/20130531/SPORTS05/305310080 And just to make sure the door doesn't go all the way shut on the topic, Kenny hedges himself against getting a deal done in the near future.
Ill believe it when I see it. this guy is getting up there in age but hes like Lidstrom that he ages like a fine wine
They dont sign Pavel...biggest mistake ever! He might be getting up there in years, but he still brings a whole lotta good stuff to the game. Still might be the best two-way player out there. I would hand him a blank check and a pen if I were Holland
They have to sign Datsyuk to an extension, end of story. And if I'm wrong and if they can't come to an agreement then Kenny has no other option but to trade him, end of story. I know some Wings fans on CBS didn't like it when I suggested the Wings should retool and for this year they proved me wrong because the Wings did better then almost anybody expected in the playoffs. But they can't let Datsyuk's contract expire without an extension or trade.. one or the other. Even though Datsyuk is an awesome hockey player he's not in the Yzerman/Lidstrom category. You don't trust him to become an UFA..... unless it's 100 percent he is retiring you don't let him go without getting value in return.
What would you guys think of signing Jarome Iginla to a two/three year deal for around a $4/$4.5 million cap hit? What would be a good contract for Gustav Nyquist? I'd like to see him get signed for at least four or five years.
I think Iginla would be a great fit here. not sure how much he has left but Id take that chance, hes gotta be great locker room guy and leader.hes one of the few that speaks with actions not babble. hes a little too tough for Kenny though *NO*
Okay, I've been reading too many fluffy pieces about the Wings. Are we done overstating their achievements for 2013 or should I let sunshine and roses shower wings nation with happiness for a couple more weeks?
On Nyquist, I say give him a short bridge contract. He'll still be cost controlled on the next contract. Bridge him at 2 x 2.5. I think he'll end up as quality top 6 or better (core) but since the next core forwards haven't been identified yet, take the cost savings on Nyquist now so Ken has the money to play with in the short term, especially if the money can be saved and used to accumulate another player that could be a top6/4/core type. Just like last CBA, there will be opportunities to exploit as gms fumble their way through the new rules and structures. Still lots of moving parts on the roster and in the system. "Siempre Gumby" for Holland.
lol, not directed at you Cutter. Not directed at the other RW fans here either. Lots of fluff and happy thoughts and other b.s. floating around elsewhere.
