Some interesting news from the Babs... Marshenko will start on defense and Mrazek will start game 1... wow.

  4. we all know idiots online, and every fanbase has their share. i'd like to highlight one of ours. this guy is as bad as anyone on cBS. he's a combination of a couple of great personality types:

the one topic poster. no matter what the subject, these people manage to twist it around to THEIR obsession. the most common example these days would be the people who have a need to work "obama sucks" into every conversation about anything.

the ultimate narcissist. i'm brilliant, far more so than any of u, and you're lucky i deign to share my thoughts (which are always the gospel truth) with u.

with no further ado, i give u...

dear ken: since babcock clearly doubted it at one time (and may still), he is plainly a jimmy groupie that doesn't know anything about this game. in light of this, i'd say u have far bigger worries than who's in net for the wings.

I really dont get people. That statement is wrong and has stupid written all over it.

If that were the case, it implies Babs is dumb as a box of rocks.

Didnt they watch the healthy Jimmy down the stretch and in the playoffs the last 3 seasons. Most of the time he was the better goalie while standing on his head.

I also think Jimmy isnt 100%. Cant prove it, just a hunch. I hope that Mrazek shines, but Jimmy is the ace in the hole if Petr starts to blow a goat.

Just read Ferraro is in game 1 also.

  7. well, that's gotta be the case, right? i mean, no chance ken is just full of shit, is there?

and not just babs - how dumb is the front office of this team for employing a coach that knows nothing about the sport?

  8. I'm nearly 100% positive that that hunch is 100% correct. Compare Howard's first half numbers with his second half numbers and it's night and day. There is no other explanation if you ask me.

    From Ansar Khan, Mlive...

DETROIT - Jimmy Howard expected to be starting in goal for the Detroit Red Wings in the playoffs, so he's obviously disappointed by coach Mike Babcock's decision to go with Petr Mrazek.

Howard said the move will serve as further motivation as he continues to work on his game.

"It's going to motivate anyone," Howard said. "Obviously, you want to be out there competing with the guys but it's (Babcock's) decision.

"Just continue to work and if my number is called upon be there to respond for the guys."

Babcock opted to start Mrazek in Game 1 Thursday at Tampa Bay because the rookie has played better than Howard down the stretch.

While both goalies have had issues, Mrazek's highs (win at Pittsburgh, shutouts vs. Tampa Bay and Carolina) have been better than Howard's top performances.

Howard hasn't been nearly as consistent since returning on Feb. 11 from a month-long groin injury. He had a 2.11 goals-against average and .920 save percentage in 32 games before the injury. He has a 2.99 GAA and .896 save percentage in 21 appearances since the injury.

Mrazek has a 0.50 GAA, .982 save percentage and three shutouts in his past six wins.

Despite his disappointment, Howard will continue to support Mrazek.

"Petr's going to be fine," Howard said. "Petr's going to play great for us. There's definitely no concern there."

He added, "Obviously, the intensity is going to pick up and everything like that. It's an exciting time of year. Just go out there and play. He'll be fine."

Howard said Babcock hasn't spoken to him about the decision.

"He's probably got a lot on his plate right now," Howard said. "For me it's just about focusing and being ready if called upon."

What does this mean for Howard's future with the organization? He has four years remaining on his contract at a salary-cap hit of $5.3 million

"I'm not thinking about that right now," Howard said.
