"Howie will be ready to go for Saturday. I thought he was excellent at practice here today, that's a positive sign." - Coach Babcock
Rivalry Night - Go Wings!
Jimmy looked a bit outa sorts last night, but that's to be expected, imo. The defense in front of him was lagging at times too. Red Wings have got to play better in their own zone and Jimmy just needs to get some work in and get in a groove.
The Red Wings must find a way to score tonight. Big ass game... a 4 pointer.
jimmy faced 4 shooters and allowed one goal - which happens to be better than the average rate of scoring (a bit under 1 in 3). MAF, who owns the all time best save percentage in shootouts, gave up 3 on 3 shots yesterday in chicago. it wouldn't hurt if the wings could actually finish occasionally. hard to win a shootout when no one on your team manages to score.
yeah i dont want to blame Jimmy too much. this team wouldnt be where it is without his stellar first half. I just hate the SO and the game shouldnt be decided by repeated penalty shots. I look at the shootout like the home run contest, guys get tired of giving it their all like that, cant tell you how many times I watch power hitters just run out of gas after so many swings. the shootout is stupid and I have no use for it, its a terrible way to decide games. we have very young forwards for the most part and they arent refined in that aspect like Hank and Dats. this is where our young forwards probably hurt us. all the shootout is, is repeated breakaways where the goalie is at a huge disadvantage. but put yourself in a goalies shoes and every shot could cost you the game. thats tough and I just get frustrated with the whole process.im hoping come playoff time those young legs carry us against the older veteran laden teams. Sheahan, Nyquist, Tatar etc are hopefully a bit wiser after last seasons playoffs and I think that will help tremendously
What the hell, one more. It is a big game with the Habs and i am pumped...
this is the only part of your post i'll disagree with. they aren't even breakaways, because there's no concern about a backchecker. on many (most?) of patty kane's SOs, he slows down so much, even john scott could catch him and break the play up.
For the record, in regard to the 3-headed goalie monster in Detroit, Babs said this - "Before we head out to Dallas we're going to make a decision," Holland said. "What we want to do is make sure Howie's groin is good. So we'll get through tonight's game and in the next 2-3 days we'll make a decision of some sort." _____________ Makes good sense. I hope Howard has the game of his life. I hope Franzen makes a quick and full recovery from his concussion issues also. _____________ I'm not real sure how to resolve the SO stuff and i doubt the NHL really cares, but the next time i see a shootout, better be some black powder involved.
Red Wings made a roster move earlier today. Mrazek was sent down and Pulkkinen was called up. Some folks dont like Mrazek being sent down, but i think it's the right move for now. Nice to have an ace in the hole anyway. Pulkkinen might be up for awhile do to the fact that Franzen is not doing well with the post concussion symptoms. Will be fun to see his how Pulkkinen does and looking forward to seeing that hard shot of his.
I saw the Pulkinnen move. His exemption runs out after this year. Marchenko, Ouellet, and Sproul run out the following year. After losing Nestrasil, Almquist, and Jarnkrok for almost nothing, I'm not going to be shocked if Kenny moves one of the guys that have lost their exemption already (such as Ferraro) or some of the guys that lose their exemption in 17' (such as Ouellet or Sproul). GMs are having a tough time moving prospects without waiver exemption these days, the CBA changes have shifted the landscape a little bit and I don't think Kenny is going to want to go into the next 3 years with so many fringe NHL players.
So i can have this clear in my head. When a player reaches exemption, does it basically mean the are a minor league free agent? So if you dont see a fit for them on the parent team, it's best to trade them or lose them?
Pulkinnen>Franzen Mrazek>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Monster other than him getting to play more I dont like Mrazek goin down.I keep him on the team and it gives a great 1-2 punch in goal should anything happen. Gustavsson will not be here next year so why even have him on the roster, its not like he has tons of experience. Calling up Pulkinnen was a no brainer, its too bad that terd Cleary is wasting a roster spot, Teemu shouldve been here most of the year. Im starting to not like Franzen much, his vag has been leaking quite a bit over the last couple years *REF* *REF* not to mention we couldve had Hossa instead - that was a horrible move
Yes, move them or lose them. They won't be a FA, but they'll have to pass waivers. Most of the teams on the fence with interest are often inclined to sit back and wait for waivers in September or October rather than give up a pick initially. I'm talking about fringe prospects that look like NHL players but aren't a lock on an active roster.
