It's nitty gritty time for the Wings. Going on a long trip and get this, 17 of their next 23 games are on the road. This is the grind time. Going to see what they really are made of. At 20-9-9 so far, Id'e say their good. This road stuff will show a lot, imo as to how good.

    Why was Jurco pulled?
What was the injury, or was it a precautionary measure so that he wouldn't be infected with too much Rexall air?

  12. ps: just went to close that window, and realized the headline of the story that comment about jurco was from deserved posting:

it may have been alarmingly poor, but i bet St. LouChong approved.

  13. hang on, belay that. he speared him in the balls, but from the front. no way His Fatness can get on board unless it's from behind.

Great stat, 13-0-2 when leading after 2 periods. Liking what Abdelkader is becoming. Good game for the Wings, but still some lowlights as a shorthanded goal in the 3rd got by Petr and getting out-shot in the game 30-22. 2 points in a road game in regulation is a good thing, though.

Detroit Red Wings' Tomas Jurco likely out until after All-Star break.

    Jakub Kindl feeling better.

Johan Franzen is on the seven-day injured list and coach Mike Babcock said he's day-to-day with an undisclosed upper-body injury.

Red Wings have simple message for Teemu Pulkkinen: Shoot the puck at every opportunity...Pulkinnen was leading the AHL with 20 goals and has scored in eight straight games for the Grand Rapids Griffins when recalled this week by the Red Wings.

WASHINGTON -- Barely an hour after being named as the Detroit Red Wings' lone representative for the All-Star Game in Columbus, goaltender Jimmy Howard was helped off the ice on a stretcher.

Howard injured his groin at 1:53 of the first period against the Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center and will not return to the game.

The Red Wings said during the first period that Howard was being attended to by trainers and doctors in the dressing room.

Howard left the puck behind the net for his defense to play. Instead, Troy Brouwer corralled it and quickly scored on a wraparound as Howard scrambled to get back into position. Howard was hurt while extending his left leg awkwardly trying to cover the post.

He went down and was attended to by trainers, who called for a stretcher.

Howard arguably has been the team's most valuable player, rebounding from a mediocre season to go 16-7-7, with a 2.08 goals-against average and .921 save percentage coming into Saturday's game.

Petr Mrazek replaced him. Mrazek is 5-2-1, with a 2.31 GAA and .919 save percentage.

Jonas Gustavsson, the team's regular backup, is about a week or two away from returning from a dislocated shoulder suffered at the end of a 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Rangers on Nov. 5.

Dammitt!... How much does this suck? Now the Wings are going to roll with a back-up to a back-up followed by a back-up in goal. I hope Howard is a quick healer. It is tough, but the Wings have really got to clamp down defensively and help Mrazek along... now it's time to see what he's got for the NHL level.
