Brendan Smith has an infection in the hand. Im checking to see if it was aggravated or caused by the fight. Datsyuk out tonight, hopes to play this weekend against the Leafs. Nestrasil is gone... claimed by the Hurricanes. Love how we just threw away a 3rd rounder. Xavier Ouelett gets the go tonight against the Peggers...
Wow, I did not expect that for a second. Then again, it is Carolina so who the heck knows if they knew what they were doing? The wings rely on a very complicated system compared to most in my opinion. I thought that would act as a deterrent for claims on project-type prospects. I really thought the timing was good to get him through. I thought only a few clubs offered a threat of a claim and most of them aren't very flexible with contract slots. Carolina was not on my list, they can barely develop their own let alone somebody else's. Since he was claimed so early, I'm guessing Babs and Kenny anticipated as much and they weren't worried about it. Sucks losing a guy for nothing, but better now than later in the year...except when they're carrying Cleary. On the bright side, the wings lose him for nothing but they get to keep Cleary *WALL* and they make room for Weiss. The voices are telling me there is something else here, but they won't say exactly what. They're keeping me from being very critical of the move even though an asset is wasted, the timing is keeping me from criticizing much too. I don't think he had a place on the roster this year or next. I'll have to wait and see, it makes no sense to have him on the roster just to dump him after 6 weeks unless he was just bad news or way too far off (as in years) from making a lasting contribution. Going to the foil (on the head), I do think it's very possible Kenny was just showcasing him to package in a trade while they waited for Mantha and Weiss to come up too. Babs may have just been finished with him so they moved him out of the way knowing he wasn't coming back. I find no fault in trying to sell a guy that will end up being of no use and then cutting the mistake before December, IF that was the case. He was certainly a skill set that made sense to package going in a quantity for quality trade like Myers (because of the rumors) for example. He has size, skill, lines up front anywhere, and has cost control, he would improve the pool in most systems up front regardless of whether or not he projects to a NHL player. Since I nailed my guess that he would clear waivers, anybody want my picks for the TNF? *BYE*
I'm excited anytime somebody whose name starts with one of the last 3 letters of the alphabet get a start. Zarley, Zenon, Yannik, Xavier...I dig all of them...okay not really Zenon but you get the point.
You reminded me. Its lineup setting time. Maybe then I will find out who plays tonight, lol. I forgot it was Thursday already.
That makes the most sense , I guess. I just still dont get the offing of possible trade bait, especially for free. I like depth, but it is getting harder and harder to maintain depth given the opportunity's players have these day's. Making room on the roster is one thing, but having plan b in place when the injury bug hits is a nice asset also. But who knows? Maybe Nesty was a clown and somehow got himself in the doghouse... something may come out later. Or maybe its just strictly business.
I think it was a combination of need from injuries, not having a spot there long term, and trying to finish up one of the rumored trades (or probably one that wasn't rumored). Logic being that they were going to be done with him soon one way or another and his contract is up at the end of the year, better to get a little something out of him while trying to get something else before letting him walk. I'm just speculating, I have nothing to base that thought on other than circumstances and quotes from the wings going back over the summer. I really wonder if he would have even been called up had there not been injuries. Kenny has nothing to show for Almquist, Nestrasil, and Jarnkrok now. Any one is explainable, but there's not much point in building up a system just to let it walk away without being a serious contender. We'll see how this plays out. Of the 3, this is the one that's of least concern to me...but that could change as this thing plays out.
Paul Ruebens and the Sex Offenders has 7 wins, I have to get on my lineup for the big push too. Important times. I forgot it was thursday, but I forget lots of things lately.
of the three u named, bob, the one that bothers me is jarnkrok - but who thought legwand was suck that bad? i sure didn't.
yeah, Jarnkrok was the one that sticks out to me too. They had all year to move him for something like a 3rd or 4th or large prospect up front to round out the pool or something. I don't really mind that they used him for Legwand, but his utilization, or lack of, was part of the reason they had to trade for Legwand anyway. I'm really curious about how they're going to use all the skaters at the blueline they have. Chicago lost Stanton and KHayes for nothing, but they've also they've flipped quite a few prospects for players, picks, or other prospects now. I wonder if Kenny is going to do something similar in the near future. I thought that their developmental system didn't translate well to most other systems (same can be said for many clubs I think), but I may have to reconsider that.
lol, Lashoff's problem, besides being bad, is that he has a year left at greater than league minimum.
Bummer... Pavel is ruled out tomorrow night, but Howard is the starter in goal. No other lineup changes to report. Still no word on Kindl. The end.
Datsyuk is skating with the team today in Toronto. He's not playing tonight, but still good news to know he's up and at'em.
