No extension and now this: http://redwingsfront.wordpress.com/2014/10/07/babcock-outvoted-when-it-comes-to-roster-decisions/ Defenseman Xavier Ouellet and forward Andrej Nestrasil both still had no idea if they had made the 23-man roster or not when practice was over at Joe Louis Arena, Tuesday. hmmmmm, this should get Babcock specualtion rolling along nicely as soon as Toronto goes on their first 3 game slide.
If Ouellet would have made the club, Kindl or Lashoff would have been demoted or waived. Makes me stop and think.
Exactly. Its plenty of fuel for the fire for those beat writers that run out of stuff to talk about, but it would be just speculative jibberish, imo and like you stated. I think Babs and Holland dont always see eye-to-eye and it's probably been that way for a while, but I sense there is a respect for each other and they have been working like that for a long time. An interesting point made, that I read was, Babs see's today and Holland worries about the future... more long term vision. All-in-all, it should make for some real good reading and radio coming out of Toronto. It will be interesting.
Exactly. Coaches aren't worried about long term asset management, and unless one is hired specifically to to oversee a crap team in tear down or rebuilding, I can't imagine they're okay with giving up a season. Holland has to think about asset management and Babcock is worried about the roster NOW. We've seen this happen with Keenan, Sutter before LA, Carlyle, and lots of other veteran coaches, even Bowman, that have seen success. They try to coach and play gm and it almost always ends badly. While Holland haterizers have reason to gripe, I think it's encouraging that the franchise keeps the keys with the gm and not the coach. I don't care how great the coach is, it's a much different job.
The phrase, 'Check's and balances' came to mind. At any given time during the season if Babs was given all authority, 80% of the highly paid contracted would be in GR and visa versa. A ' here and now' guy must have a blend with the 'thinking long term' guy. A good and working relationship in that regard is critical and key to success. One guy, either coach or GM, going total control freak, may spell big time disaster.
Looks like Kindl is in and Lashoff is out tonight. Defensive pairings: Kronwall-Ericsson, DeKeyser-Kindl, Quincey-Smith.
It appears Weiss and Cleary are also healthy scratches. Nestrasil is in. Its cool to see him get the green light (Nessy). Saw him play and all he did was rack up points.
I get why Cleary is scratched, he's done. I haven't followed camp closely enough to have any idea with Weiss, is he banged up or bad?
Straight to Cutter's heart: Lots of them sitting on the sidelines if Kenny comes knockin'. Barch, Westgarth, Orr, Parros, Bissonette, Rosehill, Kassian, and McLaren for starters.
Bob thats the best post and quote Ive seen on here. Barch is so dead on point there too, Ive been saying that since Kocur retired. I couldnt possibly have agreed more on anything he said, unfortunately Krys Kenny doesnt listen to that kind of talk
in light of all the anti fighting talk lately, this ones for you Bob I single you out more than anyone so I owed you atleast this much
I dont undertsand the Nestrasil decision. Hes never been a scorer(even in the juniors) and hes slow. The only thing hes really got going for him is his size. So if you wanted a big 4th liner why wouldnt you get a guy like Parros? he atleast serves a purpose. maybe this kid is good on the PK but unless hes the next Kris Draper this move doesnt make a whole lot of sense
He had a good camp and preseason and finished 2nd on the team in scoring. I saw him play in Toledo for 2 seasons and he was decent. In juniors he had 178 points in 174 games including 57 goals. He's got ok hands and he's big and cheap for now. I'll take that over Cleary just to see what he can do. There's going to be interesting decisions made when Datsyuk can come back... someone is going to have to go. It kinda forces some intense competition to stay up with Detroit. We will see what Nestrasil has got. I think Babs is expecting him to be on the forecheck against Boston tonight.
