Hearing not good reports that Mantha is out 4-6 weeks with fractured right tibia. No surgery required. I'll look for sources and news links in a while.
This sucks. I was really looking forward to seeing him at camp and gunning to make the team. I think he can and will, but its going to take longer, no doubt.
damn, that sucks. as soon as i saw your first post, will i figure he got hit with a shot. what a bizarre way to break a leg
That sucks. I wanted to see him this preseason too. My first thought (came from the voices) was "don't worry, they signed Cleary"
any chance little Bertuzzi makes the team? I really like him, he could add lots of grit and energy, I think hed make a nice 4th liner
I agree. I think it would take a ton of injuries, tho. In my opinion, it's going to be the year of Jurco, Sheahan, Glendening and Andersson types. Mantha is a shoe in as soon as he's healthy enough to go. I think the Wings are looking good as far as getting these players up and rotated into the lineup at some point, but I dont see it as long as Weiss and Cleary stay healthy... and thats a big 'if'.
the more I look at this Mantha kid Im ballfled as to how he fell to 20. He has no track record of being a brittle player(although hes hurt now) and wasnt a problem off the ice. so how does a kid who averaged a goal per game in the playoffs and was the CHL player of the year drop so far? Not to mention hes huge at 6'5 and hasnt even filled out his 204lb frame. I know the QMJHL always has inflated numbers but goals are goals. Most of the best young goalies are from there too so hes not playing against cupcakes. Im not complaining just confused how that happened
in the Hockey News draft previews they would say that he was temperamental and lazy. He had the ability to dominate but scout X, Y, & Z thought he was lazy. Regardless, there are probably 15 GMs that wish they could've drafted him and then 10 more on the other side that wishes that they traded in to the teens to draft him. I really like this kid for some reason. I think its because he's been successful, he's big (old school style?), and he was overlooked. I hope he comes back strong. Would assume that the AHL is probably the best road for him at this point but the expectations are through the roof.
