Tatar signed for 3 years, which is probably the right thing to do after holding him back for too long. Still waiting on the numbers but I'm not expecting anything too interesting there.

2.75 AAV for Tatar. I believe he'll be an arbitration eligible RFA at the end of the term.

Deals finalized for new Babcock minions:

The Detroit Red Wings filled the t...w Brewer to be assistants under Mike Babcock.
Renney, Peters, and McKittrick are out, Granato, Hiller, and Brewer in.

When is the last time they replaced 3 coaches in a single offseason? Brewer looks like a "babcock guy", but not Hiller. Granato has a good resume on his own, not sure if he's a good-ol-boy hire or not having been in Colorado through a whole bunch and with Mario and Dynamite Dan in Pit.

I wonder how much influence these hires will have or not have on Babcock's extension talks.

Abdelkader is an asshole...but Sobotka probably had it coming.

As I looked up the video on youtube I saw Abby getting creamed quite a bit, even by Sobotka, but still, I dont like the retaliation when its done in that fashion. I understand Abby not wanting to take any BS from people, but he's got to find a better way to handle things.

I dont know if they ever have replaced all three before and I wonder how much Babcock had in the decision to hire these three, I assume it was quite a bit. I like the change, I wasnt much of a Renney fan to begin with, but we were told he was going to fix the PP. I hope the new additions have a great influence on the younger players and can gain the respect of the vets. At least there's something different about the Red Wings for the next campaign. 28 years young and behind the bench with Detroit...gotta be living the dream right there.

Yeah, he has too much of a track record now to be given the benefit of the doubt by me.
I never weep for Sobotka though, prefer legal hits destroy him instead.

  10. would it kill you Kenny(no pun intended) to just make a pitch for this guy before theres no goons left?

  11. I like Tarter sauce, glad to see him back. thankfully I dont have to see his face up close on TV much, he always looks like hes trying to rip a fart *DONT_KNOW*

I wouldnt let B Smith walk, everyoone it seems doesnt think much of him but I think hes gonna be solid. Hes still young and brings a little of everything. I hope they tie him up

I like Smith. He's going through a lot of learning on the ice and makes mistakes, but he's gotta start somewhere. He has an edge to him too...I like that in a defenseman. Its a good compliment to the others on D who dont throw it around enough. I want defensemen who arnt shy about clearing the net in a way that makes skaters think twice about standing around the crease. Smith is still maturing as a player and has plenty of upside imo.

The Wings have been fortunate to have these Griffs come up and contribute to the team and even make a mark for themselves. With all the injuries and set-backs from some of the vets, where would the Wings have been without Tatar's, Smith's, Sheahan and Nyquist types.

Looking for a more improved play and production from the youth movement. They have been getting baptized by fire, playoff experience and holding up well under pressure. They should be even better with lots of potential. At least cutting down on mistakes and the turnover stuff.

I can't wait to see what Detroit's roster looks like out of camp.
This is one of the first times since right after the lockout where I think Kenny really needs to do something significant for both the short and long term interests of the club. I think the worst thing they can do is sit with the roster 'as is', thought the same thing in 07' and 08' and they were able to make moves of meaning both times. There are too many questions and too many holes to be a serious contender imo, either let all the young and non-super veteran players work through the growing pains for a year or move some out of the way to take advantage of a conference still trying to figure out what type of teams they want to be moving forward.

I hope they unload at least 3 of Miller, Eaves, Quincey, Kindl, and/or Helm (assuming Cleary is waived) or augment the roster with another legitimate top 6 wing and top 4 dman, or at least a situational top 4.

Most franchises still have a laundry list to work through, so opportunities will be there. Unfortunately, they do require overpayment since the demand is so great.

  14. if Cleary makes the roster and Mantha is left off get ready people, Im gonna turn it up a notch or 40. Holland has been on my sh*t list for years but that would be a Babs decision and I may go turncoat pretty damn quick. Like Babs but unless Mantha is a colossal terd in the preseason he needs to be here

  15. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

lol, if they don't add 1 or 2 more veterans and they keep shuffling Cleary out there, I won't be giving you any grief for Kenny bashing.

Mantha is the only real blue chip they have, and I think Kenny will handle him the same just about any gm would so I don't think there will be a problem there. I don't think they'll hold him back like they do with most given his scoring ability. It may be possible things not named Cleary might hold him back for another year, tough to project a 20 year old.

Alfredsson said today on Swedish radio that he plans on hitting the ice next week and then decide if he's going to play another season. He also said, if he plays, it will only be with the Red Wings, there are no other options.

Red Wings sign general manager Ken Holland to four-year extension, through 2017-18 season.

    Mike Babcock...your next.

The celebration following the announcement included a 3 year extension for Cleary.
