Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press asked the coach how contract talks with the Wings were going and he was his usual elusive self.
Tony Granto = tiny, polite, quiet man that wore an all black suit/shirt combo. Will Mantha make the team? .......is that all but decided already?
From what I know, the Wings right now have about the same team as last year. If Mantha has one spectacular preseason he just might steal a spot. If there's an injury he probably will make the team. He's not penciled in right now, but will have a shot. Just my opinions. He seems pretty confident he's ready for the NHL, but he's got an uphill battle right now.
Good find. I don't recall having seen that interview. That goes along with what I've suspected. I've heard quite a few "experts" (used loosely since Pierre was one of them) that have said similar things. The key to the answer is to get Dellevano some of Frank's helpers and then get him talking.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nhl/wings/2014/07/10/daniel-clearly-contract-detroit/12494391/ WTF is this? That's great Kenny, eating 2.4 million on the cap if his knee isn't better. Wow, looks shady, like an under-the-table deal last year to make the numbers work. Nothing other teams don't do, but he's not that significant of a player. This thing just looks worse and worse. Even if he's scratched, that 35+ cap hit isn't going to disappear unless he has a miraculous injury prior to getting his FO job upon retirment?
I kinda wonder how long it takes for Babcock to change his mind? I hope Babcock turns out looking like a genius and Cleary has a career season, but I'll admit thats a pretty strange situation.
.....ummmm neither did Quincey. bad call Mike. No not just a bad call, Im going with a really bad call. If this wasnt to somehow orchestrate a sign and trade then theres nothing you can tell me to justify this. And why are you making calls like this anyways? your the freakin coach not the GM. maybe Bobs right *DONT_KNOW*
More on the new arena: http://www.mlive.com/entertainment/...roit-redwings+(Detroit+Red+Wings+-+MLive.com) Vegas has set the over/under at 850 million for the 650 million dollar project. I'm taking the over.
?It?s always been my dream to see a vibrant and energized downtown Detroit,? said Ilitch. ?I want people to look at Detroit?s new sports and entertainment district and see what I see: the potential for something very special. I couldn?t be more excited and proud to bring this vision to life.? The rendering pics from the link look great. They gotta kick butt to make that time-line.
Detroit is a well-kept secret. With the publicity it gets one would expect it to be a depressing - if not dangerous - place to visit. Just like every city in the country, there are parts of town that are best left alone. But, Detroit on a whole is a great and fun city. Chasing Detroit will be Buffalo. Once Terry Pegula completes the HarborCenter, (and then arranges for the new Bills stadium nearby), Buffalo will also be an enjoyable place to visit.
Ive had much fun in Detroit, but like any city, one wrong turn and you can be in a place you would rather not be real fast. Its happened to me just once. It was after a night game and i headed in the wrong direction. All my experiences in Detroit were a lot of fun tho. I was around 10 years old my first trip up there. Try to get there once a year. Ballgames in Cleveland and Cincinnati were a blast too. Cincy was probably the cleanest downtown area of the three. I remember as a young teenager going to Niagra Falls. We visited Buffalo and had fun there also, stayed mostly on the canadian side tho. What Ive seen similar with Toledo and Detroit is that they are dumping huge amounts of money into sports facilities and cleaning up a lot of the urban blight in the downtown area's. Old abandoned stuff gets the big ball and new stuff pops up. It gives people a decent opportunity to go back downtown and spend some cashola. I like the ballparks around the mid-west, there pretty cool and make for great day trips. Come to think of it, Chicago is my favorite downtown that Ive been to outside of Detroit. Lots of fun to be had there also.
No pressure, Jimmy. Just stand on your head while doing the splits and mix in a couple of back-flips and reverse summersaults, thats all, you can do it!!! Seriously, I'm not worried about a healthy Howard. I think he's a fine goaltender. It's the defense out in front of him that scares me. As some would say, 'it is what it is'. I just wish the 'is' was a little better.
