The DFP is the newspaper that ran the headline "Red Wings in 3" before the Stanley Cup Finals in 1995. It's hard to take them seriously after that.
I would probably take 6 guys at a dollar and pocket 12 bucks, but, I'll take Yzerman, Zetterberg, Howe, Konstantinov, Larson and Howard. Thats skill, creativity, toughness, and then a goalie.
Lidstrom, Rafalski, Hasek, Datsyuk Zetterberg and Dino i can't believe Dats is ONLY $2! bargain! plus, i consider Hull to be a StL Blues, and not a Wings player.
i just thought this was funny. piling up a half a point a game, not a very big pile. piling up the PIMS though. feisty indeed.
just pointing out the journalistic tactic. can lead to this conversation- Guy A: Wings just signed another awesome Euro. Guy B: Oh ya? sweet, how many points did he score last year? A: not sure......but piles of em. this sandpapery, fiesty truculunteer may be a very welcome addition to your lineup. As a fellow member of (the vastly superior) Atlantic division I wasn't happy to see all of those PIMS. To be an effective pest you don't need to drop the mitts anymore. Im assuming this guy doesn't.
Looks like Wings eating upwards of 3.2 on the 15' cap. 9 non waiver exempt fwds on contract 5 dmen 1 goalie. 50 million on the cap so far. 1 compliance buyout remaining. Tootoo is already buried, barely hurts the cap but the contract slot might be troublesome. Miller, Weiss, and Helm are the only other candidates to consider buying out. There might be windows to use the advantage. Plenty of ways around the bonus overage for 15' but that will probably mean some unsavory contracts on high risk players. Kenny has lots of flexibility, should be about as interesting as it has been for a summer in Detroit's FO since the 07'.
It looks real strong that Tootoo is the second CB, and according to the FREEP, Gustavsson is going to be signed. Looks like Mrasek does the AHL circuit one more time...barring injury, of course. I really hope your right about moves. There seems to me a few guys eating up roster spots that just dont and cant contribute, dead weight, if you will. How cool and efficient it would be if some roster tweaking could add some real and actual depth with players who can consistently produce, at least play. Its proven, you have to be able to run 4 workable lines out there, especially in the playoffs, if your going to truly compete. Wings struggle because of too many not so productive spots being occupied. Even if it means more GR players, im all for guys who can stay healthy and at least play.
Soreboob, and Big Bert are no more... From PHT's Mike Halford... So long, Bert. I kinda liked the guy.
i'll miss bert, but it was pretty obvious this last season that his level of play had taken a big drop. dunno if there were ongoing injury issues or what, but he was not nearly as effective as he'd been in the past.
