I guess you could say I’m being picky, which is a strange feeling as a Bears fan. I’d just rather see them add depth at key positions rather than continue to stockpile offensive skill players that most likely won’t even see the field that much.
Any draft class that doesn't include a single lineman on either side of the ball is a draft I usually struggle to like. Throw in a failure to add further depth at edge and it just gets worse imo. Having read around a lot today it seems that on an individual basis there's some selections that had value, but sorry, 2 RB's, 2 CB's & a WR? That's your class? Im not on board with that.
Well I'm liking some of the reports I've been reading on this undrafted kid they picked up from ND at OG Alex Bars, I believe he was 3rd round talent but got bit by an ACL and MCL last season but he appears to be ahead of schedule. His biggest knock appears to be balance and short arms, but Harry Hiestand worked with him at ND so I'll give him the benefit of doubt that he sees something in this kid. He appears to be quick for his size Walter football reported that he ran a 5.3 40. https://thedraftnetwork.com/player/alex-bars
All undrafted FA signings thus far: Blake Blackmar, OL, Baylor Sam Mustipher, OL, Notre Dame Alex Bars, OL, Notre Dame Dax Raymond, TE, Utah State Lawrence Marshall, DL, Michigan John Barron II, K, San Diego State Joe Lowery, OL, Ohio Clifton Duck, CB, Appalachian State Chuck Harris, EDGE, Buffalo Emanuel Hall, WR, Missouri Ellis Richardson, TE, Georgia Southern Mathieu Betts, DL, Laval (Canada) Jordan Powell, S, Widener Spencer Schnell, WR, Illinois State
I can live with that trade. It's the constant jettisoning of mid-round picks that I have a problem with. Always trading up at a steep cost. I don't want that to bite us in the long run.
Fun note: Kerrith Whyte graduated from my old high school, down here in South Florida. The school is way out in the middle of nowhere, and as far as I know, he's not only the first graduate to be drafted, but the first to play in the NFL (I think; presuming he's a 53 man rostered player). Go get 'em, kid.
So.....of these 8 rookie kickers, their first test was kicking Barfey's botched 43 yarder in rookie tryouts this weekend. The San Diego State kid Barron and Purdue's Spencer Evans were the only 2 to hit it. The other 6 failed. Nagy says the plan now is to give these inexperienced guys as many "in game situations" as they can. Mind you, this kicking competition happened at Halas Hall, not at Soldier Field, where my sun burned ass just came back because its beerfest there today......and the wind was swirling......you know, an "in game situation." Can John Lynch do Pace a solid and just release Gould?
