Thanks Tim, I just figured it out... used to be we'd have to copy and paste the quoted sentence in between the [QUOTE QUOTE]. Gid tried to straighten me out but until I saw the reply on the RH side ... well, you know what they say definition of insanity...
Tom Brady- Hate writing this, but until his body finally gives out on him, he's at worst a top 2 quarterback. Aaron Rodgers- Maybe if he didn't miss most of the season I'd put him over Brady, he's also working with a lot of young receivers which could effect his totals. Drew Brees-About to set the passing yardage record, he's a top 3 guy. Ben Roethlisberger- Sure he has a lot of weapons. Nobody thought less of Peyton Manning when he had Harrison, Wayne, Edge, and Dallas Clark. Ben has his bonehead moments but he's still a top guy. Even when AB was out last season, Ben kept the offense moving. Mathew Stafford- Does a lot with next to no help from his feeble running game. Matt Ryan- A bit overrated by the national media but he's still a damn good quarterback. Kirk Cousins- Put up big numbers in Washington, now he's got a potent offense in Minnesota. Should be a big season for him, and probably be higher on this list by the end of the year. Ryan Wilson- This guy is the Seahawks offense. Doesn't put up huge numbers, but he's a winner. Makes plays with game is on the line. Carson Wentz- Was the favorite MVP candidate before his injury. Case Keenum- Put up decent numbers with the Rams two years ago, had a hell of season with the Vikings last season. He'll have comparable weapons in Denver this year. Just missed: Derrick Carr, Alex Smith, DeShaun Watson, Jimmy Garrapolo
Big Ben is the most underrated QB in the history of the NFL. AB would likely have greatly diminished production if paired with some of Carr's "top ten" vs Big Ben. Here's my top 5: 1) Brady 2) Big Ben 3) Rodgers 4) Wilson 5) Brees Wentz, if he stays healthy, would be a shoe-in. Same with Watson. There are a lot of guys that could be thrown into the mix but none as proven as the above 5 imo. Just look at these stats and tell me Big Ben isn't "at least" top 5: https://fantasyfootballers.org/qb-quarterback-nfl-stats/ He is top 2 in my book.
I have given this much thought. IMHO to make a top 10 QBs in the NFL, the best way is to... Pick a QB that you would want to start for your team next year, and next year alone. Do not pick based on 3 years from now or on an educated hope of what the future holds. I think that is the only true way to say who is a top 10 QB. Under those standards my list is... Rodgers Brady Brees Roethlisberger Wilson Wentz Rivers Newton Ryan Stafford Not necessarily in the proper order.
IMO I think Eli Manning still has something left and if not in the top 10 he’s close to it, he’s had absolutely no OLine over the last at least 2 seasons and a very average running game. I would rate him higher over Newton and Goff who we still don’t know if last season was a “1 year wonder”
Someone should ask David Carr to look at what happened to Holmes (a guy who got the super bowl mvp they should have given to Ben) after he left the Steelers. My theory is Ben will always be disrespected with these kinds of popularity based polls and awards because of the two allegations off the field, as well as his general demeanor which it seems quite a few people find objectionable.
1. Tom Brady - Above the neck there is only one guy close to him... 2. Drew Brees - Mentally superior to everyone except Brady. Just enough physical ability left but it's waning. 3. Aaron Rodgers - The greatest combination of arm strength, quick release and accuracy to ever wallk the planet. 4. Matt Ryan - Very underrated. Consistently gives his team a chance to win. Great ball placement. 5. Carson Wentz - Moving up the list fast. As he begins to process more info more quickly will become one of the best. 6. Russell Wilson - Very underrated passer. Gamer. 7. Alex Smith - Put weapons around him and he'll make plays. Give him shit to work with he'll keep you in the game. 8. Ben Roethlisberger - "The Big Dummy" can do things physically few can do. If he had game management skills he'd be #1. 9. Philip Rivers - Rare combination of talent and heart. But sooner or later you have to win. 10. Matt Stafford - Most overrated of the established QBs.
It’s a perception of his last 2 years. Going by your list, I would take him over Newton and Stafford if u put them in equal offenses. Again he’s had no help other than OBJ. No OLine no running game, no TE. As for Ryan and Wilson, if u have 2 equal teams playing each other in the playoffs I’m probably taking the proven 2 time SB MVP over those 2 also. Again this is my assumption of ELi having something left. I heard the NYG improved their OL and now have Barkley so we’ll find out about Eli soon enough.
A lot a love for Wentz so where does that put Foles? Besides his first start against the Raiders he left off where Wentz did and QB’d the same offense to a SB win and an MVP and played as well as Wentz.
To begin, I will eliminate QBs that I don't have confidence in starting for me in 2018. Whether it's due to inconsistent play, current injury status, etc. That whittles the lsit down to: Matt Ryan Andy Dalton Tyrod Taylor Dak Prescott Case Keenum Matthew Stafford Aaron Rodgers Philip Rivers Jared Goff Kirk Cousins Tom Brady Drew Brees Eli Manning Derek Carr Ben Roethlisberger Jimmy Garoppolo Russell Wilson Marcus Mariota Alex Smith A little more manageable 19 QBs...Now, all I have to do is promote/eliminate half of them and I am at my top ten, that I can then rank. Eliminate due to only ONE season of success gets me down to 16.. Really looking at the past 3 seasons I can deduce my top ten to this: 1. Drew Brees 2. Tom Brady 3. Philip Rivers 4. Matthew Stafford 5. Matt Ryan 6. Kirk Cousins 7. Ryan Wilson 8. Ben Roethlisberger 9. Derek Carr 10. Eli Manning This is confidence in them PLAYING/STARTING for my team in 2018 only. Projections would start to come into play for some of the younger guys if you start to talk about beyond 2018. This is also, a team of TOP position players, not on their current individual teams..all things being equal if you will. My top 5 wouldn't change no matter what outside circumstance you throw in. But after that top 5, future considerations would probably change that bottom 5 considerably. I could see a possibility where Wilson would be the only survivor in the bottom 5 of this list.
Another note: Brees (39) Brady (40) Rivers (36) Roethlisberger (36) Manning (37)... Half of this list is gone to retirement within the next 5 years. Two others in Ryan (33) and Stafford (30) won't be far behind, IF they aren't also gone within 5 years.
I will just say this one thing about Eli. Look at his career stats. Yardage is overrated IMHO. Of course he's been reliable just like his brother and just like his brother he goes into the fetal position when anyone gets close unless he's in the Super Bowl.
