When are these fucking assholes going to put a quality product on the field?

Grind the defense to a pulp while waiting to build an offense. By the time that gets done, the defense is old, beat up, and shitty again.

    Repeat cycle.

Fucck I hate being a Bears fan.

an Ryan Pace please be on the waiver wire for cut WRs who immediately (not saying much) make the WRs better?

Never fear, Pace signed Tre McBride from the Titans. They thought so much of this guy that they drafted a WR #5 in the draft, signed a bunch of free agent ones and then waived him. Nice pick up, if this doesn't scream immediate improvement I don't know what does.

The Bears kept 5 TE's and FB. They have contacted Barry Switzer and Tom Osborne about running the triple option. They also signed another RB from the Ravens so I may not be joking about this. The next thing we will hear is they have interest in signing Tim Tebow or one of the QB's from Navy, Army or Air Force to play QB.

We are now on year 3 and still have no idea what the Bears are trying to accomplish on the offensive side of the ball. Kendall Wright and Zach Miller are your 2 best receiving threat. While I like both, I hate both as number 1 options which they currently are based on what is on the roster.

Those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. I love building a defense but shouldn't completely neglect the offense. Not sure how this team manages to score more than 10 points with the Giraffe, one good slot WR and an oft-injured TE (that they may or may not be trying to trade at the moment). Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen are going to be staring at a lot of 8 men in the box looks.

I'm told Tanner Gentry cleared waivers and will be signed to the Bears' practice squad.

That is correct. I think at some point he will be on the active roster as well because we are trotting our Kendall Wright and then 5 WR's who are not worthy of a roster spot

Kevin White - a 1st round bust who still hasn't even remotely shown what the hell Pace was thinking drafting him that high.
Deonte Thompson - He can return kicks and not even that good at it. Mediocre WR on his best day.
David Bellamy - Plays special teams which is the only reason he is still here because there is nothing special about his skills as a WR.
Markus Wheaton - Head scratching signing, seems way overpaid, and also has taken the place of Alshona on the injured list because he participated in one practice this preseason so has had zero reps with any of the QB's in game situations.
Tre McBride - Tied for most dropped passes this preseason with 3 and was waived by a WR starved team.

...and not to forget that one or all of them will be injured or dead before the season's midpoint.

Gentry will see time on game-day sometime along the way this year.

A Pace high draft pick goes down in flames. Amazing that he went from #1 RB to gone in less than a year. But I'm not really surprised.

Jesus Christ, the bears are on the hook for 428k if nobody claims Aguayo?

I know this is kind of nitpicking because its pennies compared to how much space the bears still have right now.....

But what in the hell did Pace see claiming a guy who cant hit a field goal? A toddler could tell you not to sign the guy.

Cut the best WR in camp to keep 5 TEs? Fox is a fucking retard. I hate him.

Gentry is on the practice squad. There are now 4 TE's on the 53 along with 6 WR's.

When your actual best WR Cam blows out his knee in the 3rd preseason game your not going to find his replacement in the post cut trash heap. Gentry will get his opportunity along with others this season.

You say that like its some kind of achievement the Bears should be lauded for. Here's a thought.... seeing what a steaming pile the WR corps is, and seeing how Gentry looked as good as anyone out there at the position in preseason.... how about put him on the actual team??

Cos right now they've got 2 guys who are there purely for their ST abilities. And another deadbeat the Titans didn't want. I'm thinking somewhere in there is a spot that could've gone to Gentry.

    Yes rob.

You're right CM was the Bears best receiver. So you tacitly admit there was never a genuine #1 WR on the team in the first place. Because of course, Meredith is no #1. Personally i rate him as a #2, but no way is he any more than that yet. You also correctly point out rob that Pace has to scour the post cut heap for CM's replacement.... because there is no one on the roster who can step up and do the job.

So as well as providing no #1 WR to this Offense, Pace hasn't been able to provide even a second #2 on a 6 man WR corps.

Its nice to see you embrace the reality of things and acknowledge that Pace has done a HORRIBLE job of putting together anything close to even a below average WR unit. You did it in your own way of course, but still, i salute your considerable progress.

Ev, they said Gentry needs to work on polishing up his route tree. They only had one roster spot available for a WR with a limited route tree with only straight away speed. Unfortunately for Gentry they used the #7 pick on that WR so he was the odd man out even though he flashed more ability in one training camp than White has in 3.

No. I say it like it's a fact. Something that actually happened that blang seemed to have missed. Tanner Gentry is no longer cut and there is no longer 5 TE's on the 53.

You must admit though the hysteria surrounding the initial release of Tanner was a bit much. Don't get me wrong I like the kid. But after all the hoopla he was getting from practice I was expecting a bit more than 4 catches for 77 yards all preseason.

You answered your own question. Thompson and Bellamy get the nod for their ST skills. Is McBride better than Gentry? Who knows. But in order to claim him he had to be signed to the 53. It's not an indicator he is viewed as superior.

Are you so sure that CM wouldn't have taken a leap into true #1 status if he hadn't gotten injured? I'm not. I liked his chances way better than Whites who I admit faces an uphill battle to escape being a true bust.

I will admit that I would have liked to see Pryor brought in to compete with White and Meredith and let the best 2 start but I wouldn't call it a horrible job of putting together even a below average WR unit.

I would say that Pace made improvements to the QB, RB and TE positions wouldn't you? Yes WR is still an area of need. Maybe Tanner Gentry or someone else steps up this season and shows some promise. The many holes in this roster are becoming fewer.

  18. bigrobo876 Franchise Player Bears

The big difference is White wouldn't clear waivers where Gentry already has.

I can't speak for Ev, but I took his statement not as one or the other like you suggested, but rather an indictment of the system where draft pedigree and value to ST's seem to trump their skill to the actual position they play.

I don't really see it as hysteria, not here anyway. Just a lot of people agreeing on a guy who should've made the 53. But its all relative rob. If the Bears had a really strong position group then there wouldn't be so much talk about Gentry. The GM put that group together, rather pointing the finger at fan hysteria maybe point it at the GM who's put together the sh_tty position group?

Like ive said before, Bellamy i expected for his prowess on coverage teams. Thompson is a bad returner who is also a bad receiver. McBride is a complete stab in the dark. Give me Gentry over either of those two.

Lets just leave any comparisons to White out of this, cos he really is irrelevant to this particular discussion.

I like Meredith, but personally i didn't see him taking the leap you suggest, no. Going up against true #1 CB's every week, some of whom are pro bowl standard, Meredith would be overmatched on a weekly basis, it really is that simple. And thats before even considering rolled coverages cos he's the only WR worth a damn.

But this again is beside the point. Which is, is it good roster building to go into a season with no #1 WR on the team? Cos if your relying on a guy to make a leap to #1 level then your also admitting that he's not there yet. I know how much you love "hope" rob. Personally i'd rather just have the established #1 WR.
