Significantly more games in the CHL in all but a few cases, and I still consider the CHL to have a better overall pool of coaches to prepare a player for the pro game. That's why I think a certain types of players might be better suited that route.
perhaps certain types of players i could agree on but not for all players that are NHL bound in less than 4 years. imo. more games is more pro-like in CHL's favor but on the flip side means less skill practice time and less ability to put on good weight. as for the pool of coaches, certainly more NHL affiliated coaches in the CHL but I don't equate that to being better necessarily. In the NCAA's favor I also see college hockey continuing its march forward and continuing to evolve as the CHL does not. not trying to be a poor sport, Id say that the CHL is a better overall option for most surefire NHL prospects but there are less of those types of players than most people seem to think.
We agree there. That's where I was coming from in terms of a development curve. More polished or physically ready players should still favor the CHL but the opposite is true for those deficient in technique, mass, or physical development. The extra year is huge for those still getting used to, or filling out their frame. Guys with vision and hands who already know how to skate don't have as much to gain in the NCAA imo. Well said. I agree with this too. As of today though, I think there is a significant edge with CHL coaches. The NCAA doesn't have enough really strong programs yet. Once you get past the top 10 comparing the two, I think the scale falls hard to the CHL side.
Johanson on board with a very good contract. I was expecting us to cave more to his demands. I love the new deal. Gives him time to prove he's worth $7+ mil. I think its good for both sides. Ready to kick this season off now. I'll be at the home opener against pretty boy Nash. Let's go Jackets!!! Goodluck to all other teams as wel... when they aren't playing us!! *DANCE* *ROCK* *DRINK* *DRINK*
Do we have anyone healthy? Every game we lose someone else. *SCRATCH* *WALL* We can't win like this. Need to try and keep it at .500 till we get some players back. Might as well call us the Columbus-Springfield Falcons at this point.
CLB had to expect issues with Hortonand Wiz, and Murray hasn't done anything yet to prove his absence is even much of a loss. Outside of those injuries, the rest is ridiculous on its own. Bad year to have all this at the same time, hopefully they'll have better fortune after this injury bug runs its course.
Playing a little better finally. Hopefully we continue not to lose a new player every game. That killed us earlier.
I am jacked to see my first CBJ home game tonight. Since it's against the hockey team from Philadelphia I will be as loud as the locals. I may even be louder, after all I have 39 year's experience rooting against them. Go Jackets! If you're there stop by to say hello. I will be easy enough to spot with my garish Sabres' alternate sweater - Sect. 105. (Eye protection is advised.) Go Jackets!
I go to a lot of NHL games, and I can say that tonight's game in Columbus may have been the most pleasurable game I've been to since watching the Cornell Big Red at Lynah. It was just a great game with a great audience. Watch out for the CBJ. They dug themselves into a big hole. But they play in the EC, and I expect that they'll vie for a playoff spot.
I really like what I've seen of Jeremy Morin and think that the CBJ are fortunate that such a young highly skilled player demanded a trade. It's not too often that a team can acquire a player like him. I think there's little doubt that they'll be in the playoff race. They have some attractive pieces to move to help assure that if needed. The one position that remains vulnerable IMO is G. If Bobrovsky were to get injured again, (and he is likely to get a lot of ice time), then that could derail the season. I expect they're already kicking the tires in the backup goalie market.
Don't know anything about him but he sounds like he'll fit our team. Gritty with a quick shot. Hopefully he can add some offense!!
I saw him in Rockford last year and in Chicago early this season. I am no scout, but I know it when a player turns my head and makes me ask "who's that?". Morin is that kind of player and I wish he were a Sabre today. Not only do I expect him to add offense for the Jackets, but I expect he'll compliment others on the team. Nick Foligno has another fast player to feed the puck. I think you'll get to like him very quickly.
