Love him. this thread is just what MNC needed. i never get tired of Coaches Corner and rarely disagree with Grapes on just about anything. Hes an icon and a legend to me
Last nights Coach's Corner, just in case you missed it. Good game between the Leafs and Red Wings, by the way.
good deal Will, thanks for posting that. I missed coaches corner last night and was none to happy about it
love his take on the Schenn hit and the 'league safety' stuff, funny. and although I hate him Subban should be on team Canada.25 years of Rock m Sock em, that better make its way into my stocking
Bobby Orr, thinks Don Cherry should be in the Hockey Hall of Fame. He'd get my vote. Besides, how can you argue with Orr? Like those sweaters. I might have to invest.
thats awesome Will, what was that? check out the guy behind Grapes, look just like him. like Alf says, Orr = correct
I just happen to stumble across the picture in the National Post. It didnt say what the picture was about. This is a link to it. It has some other interesting features on Don Cherry. http://sports.nationalpost.com/2013...end-for-don-cherry-on-hockey-night-in-canada/
I have to say, I agree once again with Grapes, Skinny. If that gets the truth out of someone and can save lives...then so be it. Not just that method neccessarily, but by any means that happens to work. Did you ever see any of the footage of Don in the dessert with the Canadian Armed Forces? Thats really good stuff. The soldiers love him.
Grapes is the biggest supporter for the troops here, he gives them the exposure and recognition they deserve. Many times a soldier will die and nobody cares except family and friends, grapes puts them on the big stage during coaches corner.
He does always take time to remember the fallen troops. Its too bad people in this country don't do the same more often. Would it kill Monday night football or Joe buck to at least pay homage even if its between quarters or before commercial break. Grapes is a stand up guy and even when he only has a few minutes to say his piece he still makes time for the soldiers
If someone loses their life to protect us from having an airplane fly into our office one morning, or a bomb going off three feet away while I'm trying to watch a marathon, then, yeah, they deserve to at least have people know when they die.
While I think Grapes has done more than most to remove the fans' ability to consume the league in an accurate context and he's done more than his share to keep the xenophobe contingent of NHL fans alive and thriving, he has done more than most to promote the sport and he is an icon. It is called the Hall of Fame, not the hall of greatness, brilliance, or even hall of the best. He would get my vote to go in the hall. JR right behind him. As far as the NFL "saluting the troops" goes, they've done enough shameless plugs and passing around cheesy feel good high fives to themselves and the fans for a few lifetimes as far as I'm concerned. I've been at the point for years where I literally have to walk away from the tv (unless I'm by myself) every time the NFL mentions or makes reference to the troops beyond the anthems. Their disingenous "support" has done more harm than good on multiple levels as far as I'm concerned. Acknowledge them during the anthem/anthems and then do the rest quietly or silently. I'm so efffing sick and tired of the NFL plugging themselves on the backs of vets and victims of disease. Voices going apeshit crazy now, so I'll stop. I'm all for what Grapes does to recognize the troops, even if I question some parts of the message, I really think he's doing it for the right reasons (he actually cares) unlike most that do it on tv.
...and now for an HNIC history lesson. HNIC actually started on radio...this is the television story: Thanks to are friends at Wikki
Thank god Gretzky went to LA, dont know what Id do if I didnt have my Saturday night doubleheaders all these years
Last nights Coach'a Corner, in case you happen to have missed it. Check out Cherry's tie.
See what Grapes said 'put the best players on the team and stop being political' - you listening Burke you ritard. Once again Grapes hits the nail right on the head and says what needs to be said. Thanks Will I was gonna post it I thought that was a good Coaches Corner. Man Max Domi is pretty damn good, Ive never really seen much of him but hes got some nice moves
