That's a pretty pedestrian jacket by Grape's standards. What, did his Toronto tailor run out of time too?
Im wondering, it may be so. He is low key there and I think it stems from him being in a serious mood. Im detecting bad vibes with Don, he's not happy and he may be thinking of moving on. He doesnt remind me of a second fiddle kind of person. Playing second fiddle is new territory for him. I think he feels like he's just being patronized by the network by giving him his 5 minutes in the hopes of gratifying him and his following. Cherry aint stupid. I think he's seeing some writing beginning to form on the wall and he's not going to stand around and take any shiitt from anyone. He's an old dog that wont learn any new tricks and I dont think the network digs that. Im just speculating, but if it comes down to Don being dismissed. He will find a way to get the last word. I dont think he would be flat out told he's gone, I dont think the network wants that looming over them either. They dont want to be the ones known for the ones who got rid of the beloved Don Cherry. Myself, personally. I love what he does and have been watching him since the show's inception. I wish he had a half-hour show. He has a lot to say and he's very active within the sport still. I find him to be a very interesting person, one of the best. Anyway, I view the network as just 'giving the dog a bone' and thats not the way to treat the guy, imo. I hope the old dog bites em all in the asss...
Here's the thing, coach's corner's had a 7 minute segment for 25 years, that's how he's moulded his show. It gave him time to talk about charities, the troops and anyone down on their luck that he would help out. How would you or anyone feel if someone showed up to your job after 25 years and told you that you have to do what you do best in less time? It would piss you off of course. He doesn't care, he has money, he doesn't need them, and he would have no problem getting an hour radio show with probably as many listeners if it's broadcast nationwide. It's obvious they don't want him there, but the ratings trump their decision making, the douches with the suits making the moves know he's old and stubborn, so they're just doing it to push his buttons.
this year CC is 5 minutes, down from 7. next year it will be 4 or 3 and a half, then Cherry will tell Rogers to go f**k themselves.
3:07 "we don't have any enforcers because of the stupid instigator rule" In other outdated and irrelevant thoughts, I've been thinking about something. The commies aren't going to win the cold war, I'm really starting to believe the USSR will fall apart.
Cherry makes good points on the blind linesman and icing. The diving poke check of the puck that gets called a trip was a great play, not a trip. Cherry's suit needs to be viewed with shades on... or burned. Good stuff...
Don Cherry: ?Something?s gotta go? in Edmonton - PHT Don Cherry has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind. The long-time star of Hockey Night in Canada and former NHL coach touched on the subject of the Edmonton Oilers, a club greatly struggling to start the season and without a win prior to their Monday meeting with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Cherry believes the Oilers ? with a 0-4-1 record and numerous doubts, concerns and questions about their player and coaching personnel ? need to trade one of their top young players, according to Sportsnet.ca. He did, apparently, bring up the name Jordan Eberle in this discussion with Sportsnet 590 The Fan. Fascinating, no? ?You can?t trade (Nail) Yakupov, because nobody?s going to take him,? said Cherry, as per Sportsnet.ca. ?(Jordan) Eberle or one of those guys have got to go. ?It?s a tough deal giving one of (the young players) away, but something?s gotta go.?
Sounds like they had fun. Glad Don is still happy with his show. Last i saw it, he went on for a smidge over 5 minutes.
Maybe they gave him another minute, the stories he has about taking buses in ahl are crazy, the ahl back then broke many labor laws, no union.
