King- Most everyone here was high on Bostic when he came out myself included, but I think with everything that's transpired over the last number of years I think we have a much shorter leashes on these guys and can make excuses all day long for them, but at the end of the day they have to play ball. I said I would give him this preseason with Fangio instead of Tucktard and go from there, but at the end of camp I wouldn't be surprised if he was a #rostercut

    I'm not very optimistic here.

Jon Bostic is still on the roster, and he's not any good. Can he tackle yet?

Neither is Shame. Who for the record in this article is going to be at middle linebacker? His best chance is pass rushing. What he did at Boise State. Not expecting wonders--but this is the mark of a stupid team who doesn't get it. You draft a kid and play him at every position except the one he was good at in college. Not by any stretch thinking he'll be any good, and 3 sacks this year from him will surprise the shit out of me; but this kid was mismanaged from the get go. He's a collegiate star and 40 years from now will be remembered as one, but he's had no chance. And that pisses me off.

Will the bears run the ball often? And no, not stereotypical Lovie ball. Run off a bad guard who cant run block, run off a bad guard who cant run block, 2 yard dump off pass to Jason McKie, Punt sequence.

Can this team mix it up and be consistent for a change on offense? Sorry, not buying it.

Can the Wide Receiver screen die and stay in college where it belongs? And never be ran again? Because the 20 times a game the bears would run it it would work once.

And again--who gets to Aaron Rodgers; or any quarterback for that matter, but specifically Rodgers? McPhee? Double team on that dude all year. So who steps up? Lamaar Houston? Yeah right, he's downed himself in a bucket of stupid. Jared Allen? Laughing all the way to the bank with his retirement money. Jarvis Jenkins? The Redskins cut him and that should tell you all you gotta know. Sam Acho? Can he stay healthy for more than 5 plays at a time?

Shame is our only hope. Jesus fucking christ. Unless Jay Ratliff is a fantastic 5 tech at 35.

And in the secondary we have more bad. Kyle Fuller is good. Antrele Rolle? Maybe 5 years ago I wanted him. Tim Jennings forgot how to cover players. Brock Vereen? God help us.

But hey, at least we got Mega-leg!

If there ever was an understatement patg nailed it. I had put a lot of faith in Fangio turning this defense around in spite of the players he's been dealt. I was trying to keep my glass half full and then patg shoots it out right of my hand. I think if I drink Kool Aid from what patg says it should be of the Jim Jones variety, and that could likely be true, but I'm still holding out hope because the picture he paints isn't one done by Bob (happy trees) Ross.

And how many countless players have been studs in college and duds in the NFL?

The speed of the game takes a huge leap forward when you come to the NFL. Players are bigger, faster, and stronger than the ones you played against in college.

So having watched him in college......in no one automatically translates into knowing he can be a good pro.

If this were high school....I'd blame discipline on a coach. But by the time you've reached the NFL you've had several coaches in your ears for years and you either are gonna get it or you're not.

Tucker isn't a good coach. But he is far from being the sole reason this defense didn't perform the past couple seasons.

Bostic's problem isn't just discipline. It's also awareness. It's instincts. It's his football IQ and on field communication. He's lacking in every spot.

When you play behind a swiss cheese defensive line that lets everyone through........getting a little over 7 tackles a game isn't something to brag about.

I'm more concerned about the tackles he misses by being out of position anyway.

It's not like I want Bostic to fail. I don't want anyone in a Bears uniform to fail.

I hope Fangio helps turn the kid around. I hope he finds way to make McClellin effective. I hope Jared Allen has a resurgent year and brings down the QB 12-15 times. I hope this defense actually grows some balls.

I just find some of that unlikely, mainly when it concerns Bostic and Shea, because I've been watching this game too long to think otherwise.

Seriously though, the thing that jumps off the page here (and given the discussion) is ILB. Those 4 being "locks" according to Bleacher Report (and frankly, given depth I don't necessarily disagree) is a bit of a downer. Particularly Shea. The coaches seem high on him, which worries me a lot. Maybe he's one of those guys that's a different player in practice or something.

I hope all these guys get it, but man, college is not the NFL. How many thousands of studs fail at the pro level. Even in the best college football conferences, you aren't at the same talent level as the NFL. All of these guys have potential.
