Rob Lehner put up very good numbers when he played last season. The problem is that he played for only about a quarter of the season. One of the reasons he was even available from Ottawa is that he had missed time while he was a Sen. No objective person could extrapolate from his body of work and confidently state that he is an NHL starter caliber goalie. If he consistently delivers on his capabilities then BUF is in good shape. But that's a very big if. Anders Nilsson is a very big Swede, (seems as though TM likes 'em that way). But Nilsson is much closer to an NHL bust than even being a very reliable back up. I applaud the trade because it gives the team's 2-3 legit goalie prospects another year of development. (To be careful, I do not define legit prospect as necessarily a likely future NHL player. I'm just saying that that the team has a few prospects that potentially may achieve NHL success.) Regardless, I view all prospects in the org. as being a year or more away from being ready to make the step up to the NHL.
Kyle Okposo addition signals shift in Buffalo Sabres? fortunes Full article from; The Boston Herald - http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/...tion_signals_shift_in_buffalo_sabres_fortunes
Okposo had 22 goals last season in an almost full season. Two years ago he had 27, he tips the scales at 217. At 28 and getting older, I'm not so sure how he'll do long term in an ever changing league that seems to be getting a lot quicker and younger, away from the prototypical okposo types. Only time wil tell.
The Buffalo Sabres have signed forward Zemgus Girgensons to a one-year, $1.15-million contract, the club announced Thursday. Girgensons, a native of Riga, Latvia, scored seven goals and totalled 18 points in 71 games with the Sabres in 2015-16.
It looks like the Sabres drew a hard line with Gus given his steep production decline last year. He is still extremely young, and to say there was a lot of uncertainty over his role last season is a huge understatement. Those are not excuses, but are valid considerations for thinking he may rebound this coming year. I think he's betting on himself with the very short contract with modest salary. I've been a big fan ever since listening to him speak the day he was drafted #14 overall. Gus has got something going and could wear the C someday. He's smart and dedicated to his craft so I expect he'll achieve the lofty expectations. I hope it's as a Sabre.
I have chronicled my litany of downright hideous to merely disordered Sabres sweaters. I hit quite a few NHL arenas each year and donning Sabres gear is de rigour. Two years I wore the butt ugly piss yellow alternate sweater game-worn #82, (Marcus Foligno). I chose that name since no player was secure on that putrid roster and at least his father's name is forever safe in Sabres lore. The sweater represented the ugly state of that team. Last year things improved dramatically but it was still a very unsettled team. I graduated to the purple hockey-fights-cancer special; #4 Gorges. The sweater was not as ugly, but that color was disordered in the world of proud hockey. It was an apt symbol for last year's team. Over the last half of last season the Sabres played at a 95 point pace. They got only 2 s/o bonus points out of a possible 12, (the s/o is a gimmick that does not reflect accurately the talent of a team). It is reasonable to expect that this year's team will play closer to the standard they set last year after the team had gelled. A simple regression to the mean in s/o points indicate we should expect 95-100 points from this year's Sabres. Therefore, it's time to move up again to a more respectable sweater that reflects the new Sabres. I have to decide who should personify the new Sabres. There are a lot of eligible players: - Ryan O'Reilly - he is now the heart & soul of the team. No one should ever discount how important ROR is to Buffslo. - Jack Eichel - no need to belabor this; Jack is a stud that will get much better. - Samson Reinhart - he has a lower ceiling than Jack, but he makes everyone on the ice produce at a higher level. He's the Sabres Toews. - Zemgus Girgensons - I've always liked Gus and he's been an all-star! - Rasmus Ristoleinen - I identify with D (not in hockey, but in my day I was a d-back in football). I'm hoping that the Sabres lock up Risto for the long term. He's my choice but I need to have confidence that 55 is going to be in Buffalo for the long haul. What player would you select if you were a Sabres fan?
I can't miss with him. But if I stick with family then I will be in the distinct majority amongst Sabres fans. Half of the fans are picking 15 and I'm too weird to be that normal.
this was the place, Santarpios. might have even been the guy that bought that story. iirc, he was pretty psyched about it.
These are the best places, 70's decor, leave it as is, the food's probably amazing. There's been instances where a place like this will go through a major reno and then shut down a year later.
hit the nail on the head skinny. Id recommend that place to anyone traveling to Boston. Santarpios in Eastie, great pizza and ambiance. you may even run in to an Eichel "family member".
