Yeah, I know you're not, but I know that if someone had dirt on Hahvahd I'd allow myself to enjoy it too. Jack was never going back to BU - the NHL was literally his lifelong dream. It's just that he is well schooled in knowing how to make proper public announcements. In other words, "it would not be cool for me to say I'm leaving for the NHL before I've even been drafted". It's similar to him wearing #41 (equipment mgr. assigned) sweater through preseason; he did not take #15 until he had "made the team". He's either a real genuine guy, or he could teach Machiavelli lessons.
Yes, and for that I call him a smart young man. It may be wishful or self-serving thinking on my part, but I hafta think that if he's smart like this then he's smart enough to just say "no" to gambling.
Chad Johnson starts against Boston. He is 4-1-1 in his last 6 at home with a 1.65 GAA. Have fun ! (Rask for the Bruins)
I wasn't able to watch last night's game. Boxscore indicated a close game, but that's just inference. I'll have to do better for their next tilt on Saturday. Off to Beantown, I am!
i was hoping that Subban would get the nod for us on Saturday but not to be. and check your flight Dan, we got some snow out here last night. actually, its snowing right now still.
You'd have to nuts to not want Stamkos. But, what the cost be? Gotta figure Samson Reinhart would move south. They'd be better now but Samson has a bright future and about seven years on Steve.
7 years, no disrespect to reinhart, but I don't think he'll match up with stamkos in his prime. He'll be a good hockey player, maybe like a 30 goal scorer, like a jvr.
Reinhart can contribute in many other areas than "mere" scoring. The reason he went #2 is his hockey IQ, not his scoring touch. He, once he hits his prime, will raise the level for every player on the ice. I'm not equating him with Stamkos, and it would take a few other valuable assets to obtain him. I think the Sabres will be competitive next year, but still a few years away from becoming a contender. (Of course Stamkos would accelerate that.) So, I'm not really comparing the two. I'm questioning the benefit of having Stamkos now weighed against not having Reinhart+ in five years. You always have to put any player in context of a team's stage when considering a trade. I would like having him (who wouldn't), but I'd rather TM blew his wad on a top-six winger. Note, the important pieces TM has added are all 24 or younger. He's planning for a few years down the line, and if all goes well, a multi-year run for the Cup. Does Stamkos really fit that plan?
Nowhere in that article do they mention Reinhart. If he gets moved before feb.29th it would be as a rental, which would make no sense for tampa whose going to be in the post-season. If it gets to july 1st and becomes an FA, the sabres don't lose anyone, a $12M 7 year deal would do the trick.
Buffalo is actually overloaded at C. Granted, we know ROR can play the wing and probably Reinhart. But I just have to wonder about committing so much money to 1C & 2C. Even in FA for "free" I'd wonder how prudent it is for them to throw that kind of money at the position. I know this looks odd. A Sabres fan cautioning about adding an elite player. The NHL is not a rotissory league, and the cap is a fact of life. BTW, I don't think he's going to hit UFA. TB will either sign him or trade him this month. I'd put the odds of him staying put at over 80%.
Everything is speculation as stamkos is not one to show his cards. If he could get you 60 goals a year I say try all you can to get him.
I don't know exactly where Jack stands in rookie scoring, but with another beauty today he's near the top. Don't say this to anyone, but the same thing can be said about Samson. Nice win today with foreshadowing of the future.
