BUF 2 LA 1, O/T. Risto gets an A, and is there any doubt left for why Tim Murray coveted ROR - and that McGinn was not merely a throw in? I like the feeling when the Sabres get a W.
Congrats, I have the feeling your going to be feeling good quite often. The team is improved and playing well... Good win.
Yes, a highlight reel G, and it was ROR's 100th NHL goal to boot. First time I was really happy to see Enroth get the L.
I'm starting to like it when Buffalo spots the other team the first goal. However, with only about five minutes to play I was starting to get a little nervous tonight. Then our MVP ROR evened it, and we got the GWG about one minute later. That was a nice road win against a strong team that was on a roll.
Will, I cannot thank you on this iPhone, but I certainly want to say thanks. If half the Wings fans had half your class then it would be the classiest fan base in hockey. (Maybe they are.) Good game that could have turned into a thumping if Johnson hadn't decided to stand on his head. After what we've been through in recent years, it's nice to see Buffalo steal 2 pts.
In a way I'm happy the Sabres do not have a lot of prospects at the WJC. Last year they had eight, and now it's one (a Czech got hurt; would have been two). I won't be distracted by scouting prospects that the Good Guys already own. TM stole a few mid-round picks when he was with the Sens, and Will Borgen may be in that mold. He is one to keep an eye on over the next 4-5 years. Mostly, I'm looking forward to "scouting" '16 draft-eligible players. It'll be fun to see how some teams look with recent picks: in particular, I'm looking forward to seeing DET, CAR, CBJ, PHI, BOS, & CHI prospects.
Good: Chad Johnson has played like an NHL starter lately with a .942 SV% over his last 9. Fun: Jack Eichel gets to fulfill his lifelong dream of playing in an NHL game in Boston. I'm happy for him. I hope he has a bit of P. Kane's showmanship when ever he plays the hometown team. Every time - every fucking time - he plays against the Sabres he wants them to remember his name. I'll be happy if Jack gets half of Patty's numbers when he skates against Boston. Ugly: Matt Moulson and his $5MM+ cap hit and now relegated to babysitter and healthy scratch. Eventually Terry Pegula is going to notice that he's paying a lot of guys to NOT play for his team. I hope the Big Red alum does not become one of those stats.
Attaboy, Jack, attaboy! It looks like you did enjoy playing your first NHL game in Boston. Great players rise to the occasion; 2 G, 2 A - 4 points: that'll do.
nice win for the Sabers last night. looked like the good guys had it in the bag when Krejci put them up 3-1 halfway through the 3rd. a resilient Sabres team had other ideas.
The Good Guys have shown that they can score. Getting them to do that consistently will take some time since the lineup is not really established yet. We're getting very little from the Lion Killer, and Eich's landlord is a fourth liner or a scratch. On the other hand, Samson has noticeably progressed this season and Jack has had more than his share of highlight reel action. Next year I'll expect them to be winners. This year I'm just trying to enjoy them when they come. In Stockholm; early flight to Helsinki. Glad to see your boy is on the Czech team.
Good Guys = Buffalo Sabres; "good guys" is who ever you want 'em to be. But, putting things in context as you've expressed things, I have to warn you that you could be heading down a dangerous rail that borders on suggesting that the hockey team from Boston is the ... No, that's nuts!
I am on my way to Riga, Latvia. I am going for one reason. I am going in homage to Gus "the Lion Killer" Girgensons. Thank you, Gus, for being the best damned Latvian in the entire NHL. And, thank you, Latvia, for your exceptional native son.
Kinda bummed that I could not find a Latvian national sweater. Was tempted to get Riga's KHL sweater but passed. I did the same by passing on Helsinki's KHL sweater - this one was unique with a court jester logo. But, this is the KHL that I'm talking about. I did pick up a Suomi #5 Ristolainen sweater and am feeling chuffed about that! Back to Dublin tomorrow and then back to the US of A, thus consigning my most excellent hockey pilgrimage to the memory banks.
I've heard some not so quiet whispers about Jack Eichel and Matt O'Connor being heavily involved in this BU hockey gambling fiasco from last season. Common knowledge is the trouble Nick Roberto is in but the allegations involving Eichel and O'connor are new. I have no link or anything, just a few conversations w/ some hockey guys. Could just be rumor mongering, could be something huge. Something like both Eichel and O'Connor being in debt a huge amount of money last year to their bookie Keith O'Connell. Both of those players did not play particularly well in the NCAA finals.
Ah, life's a soap opera at times. I ain't denying their involvement, but I'm gonna just wait and see how this plays out. I will say that if Eich was in deep that he is one very cool cat. Right up until the draft he was stating that he was undecided about going back to BU this year - if he owed money then I think it would have been hard to say that with a straight face. But hey, perhaps he's just one cool cat.
Im not passing judgement either Dan, just reveling in the BU misery. It was laughable that Eichel was "entertaining" another year at BU. there was never a shot.
