NHL.com: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=786706&navid=nhl:topheads Ryan was, rightly so, popular in Buffalo. It was obvious by the 2014 deadline that the Sabres would be better off getting what they could for him - and, frankly, the Blues deal was a lot more than what we expected. I expect he will get a warm welcome when he returns to the First Niagara. Give 'em a rousing welcome in warm ups, and then cheer loudly for the Sabres to ruin his return.
I can't seem to be able to copy the video itself, so I hope this Twitter link works. Ryan Miller tribute, Buffalo, NY, November 7, 2015: https://twitter.com/hashtag/ThankYouRyan?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc^tfw Yeah, it works, but not as nicely as I'd like. It's worth effort to see Buffalo thanking him.
nice win dan, your kidz are hitting early and often. that liv ullman girl was awesome in net. i don't often get a chance to watch the sabres. good win. the nucks have now lost 8 games, all by one goal. competitive, but not good for a fan's blood pressure. enjoy the day!!!
Thanks, red. It was slightly bittersweet (only very slightly) to see Ryan lose on tribute day. It was a nice tribute they gave him. The SOG total was very 2014esque, but the outcome was certainly not. Tyler Ennis looked damned slick on that final score. Risto got the G but it was really all Tyler wanting a W.
Yeah, it's like the [del]NHL[/del] Hockey Hall of Fame. You've been a great ambassador for Toronto and the HoF, skinny. I've been to Toronto quite a bit, and this'll be on my must-see list next time.
Thanks Dan, it's true it is the hockey hall of fame, thus the induction of ruggiero for the US womens. They focus a lot on everything including a section on international hockey, I saw a jersey from india, that blew me away.
Jagr has been the meister against the Sabres pretty much his whole career. It'll be tough to beat the Cats in their own crib tonight. But it would be nice to see .500 after their record for the first time since the 12th century. (Well, literally it's been 930 days, or since 12/31/2012.)
Today, the SJ Sharks make their annual visit to Buffalo. No doubt they will appreciate the remarkable resurgence of the city. (There is talk of renaming the burg Pegulaville.) But, if history is a guide, they'll leave town with a bad taste in their mouth. In their entire good-to-very-good history the Sharks have 1 W in Buffalo, (1-23). It's almost a BTW comment to note that the Sabres gain W's with alacrity when they visit San Jose. The drama is set. For the first time in a long time the Sabres enter a tilt with the Sharks without a deficit in the W:L column. The NHL middle of the pack is pretty crowded, and a W today will put them in leader-of-the-mediocre status. I expect that there will be a stretch of poor performance by this team at some point in Jan. or Feb. and they'll sink below playoff contention. But the deadline this season is going to be an experience that the Sabres faithful have not had in some time. GMTM may even be a budget buyer; certainly the fire sale signs will be gathering dust.
This sucks. A year ago I would have shrugged off a loss. Hell, I might even have celebrated the loser point. This year, it sucks.
We know TM has kept the trade talks open about acquiring D help. Bogosian may be close from coming back from his mystery injury, and he certainly upgrades the blueline. Both Mark Pysyk and Jake McCabe have played well - that's no real surprise with Pyser, but McCabe is about a year ahead of forecast - for now. Hope the rookie wall doesn't smack him too hard. The team simply must address the organizational deficiency at LHD before they'll be taken seriously as a future contender. Knowing TM, I think he'll get something done. Fowler (ANA) & Yandle (NYR) are possible candidates to join the party in Buffalo.
It would be nice to see Soupy Campbell rejoin the Sabres this summer for his career victory tour around the NHL. Does it make sense? Maybe not, but he's one of my favorite players ever, so I indulge myself...
