I am not sure that "giddy" is the right word. "Encouraged" is a good substitute, but "relieved" may be most apt. We're relieved that the destruction is finally over and that the team is actually getting better.

You hit my sentiment to a tee for when the Sabres play a team I like. I want that team to have a good season, but on that night I want Buffalo to stomp their ballz.

I just have not been able to get behind the Avs with much enthusiasm. First, I have always liked the Hawks & Wings a bit, and it is contradictory to like the Avs and these teams. Second, Denver is actually a dull place compared to most cities when it comes to hockey. It's a good sports town, but they don't get excited about any team, (except the Broncos), if they're not winning.
I make my annual pilgrimage to the Pepsi to see the Sabres, (Wed., Jan. 20, 2016), and I always get best seats available for that one. Otherwise, I may make another game or two, but I watch a lot more hockey in other cities. I have ten more NHL cities to get to before I've seen them all - then they'll start adding teams.

Excellent. Ive never been to an NHL game... Just the IHL and the ECHL. I would really like to see a Wings game in person. (Bucket List Must Do)

Will, the next time I am in Detroit we'll go to a Wings game. I get there about once every one to two years. I love the Joe - it is one of the best places in the world to watch hockey. I hope that they come close to capturing it's ambiance with the new building.

I go to ECHL games, too. Perhaps a Walleyes' game is in our future.

I am no fan of RPI, but I will be cheering for at least one player this year. Kasdorf was considered a throw-in in the Sabres 5 for 3 trade with the Jets. He's still probably three or more years away, but is looking like the team's best goalie prospect. So, for the first time ever I will say "Go Troylets!".

if you can root for RPI i have faith that one day you'll be able to say Bruins. we're not as evil as them or Harvard.

RPIers are uncouth and their team usually sucks. They also have a hard on for Cornell and hate that they'll make less money than us. They should piss in their troylets and not in our chapter room. Hahvahd? Pure evil.

I can't do it though, Matty. The tradition is too deeply ingrained in me, even if it is for the sheer joy of "hatin' on" the hockey team from Boston. Nothing personal, mind you.

How is Chicago going to pull this off? It's obvious that Oduya really wants to stay. How are they going to find the coin to fulfill his desire? A lot of talk that the Sabres are the front runners if he leaves. I have to think BOS would make more sense for him.

TM usually gets what he really wants. However Oduya controls his own destiny; not the other team's GM. Also, I think he views Oduya as a nice addition but not one he's got to grossly overpay to get. His leadership and championship pedigree would help BUF but his weaknesses would probably be accentuated in Buffalo.

I put the odds of him donning blue & maize at less than 50:50.

WTF! Not exactly the kind of news sabres fans want to hear, but here it is. ROR charged with impaired and leaving the scene after smashing into a tim hortons at bluewater beach, no, not a joke.

  9. skinny123 Guest

Not that bad, no minimum jail sentence, 1 year license suspension.

  10. ouch. i'd like to give the young man the benefit of the doubt (but only because he no longer plays for... well, u know... them), and hope it turns out that he wasn't actually impaired, but simply expressing his opinion of timmy's mediocre product.

  11. wait, i take it back. i just found out he was driving this:

i don't care how bad timmy's coffee is, that's no way to treat a vintage vehicle. throw the book at him.

To the criminal thread with such things!!! Or the ditch.

    ROR belongs there.

I hope his dad tried to bribe somebody to cover it up and got busted.

No way to treat a vintage vehicle, living the dream can be dangerous.

    Well, this kinda sucks.

What's better, O'Reilly's stunt or Kromer's kid beat down?

I think I'll tune into to some Buffalo radio tomorrow.

  16. skinny123 Guest

I tuned in and the concensus says they're both bad, but kromer I think is a bit worse because of the age factor and threatening to kill a whole family.

  17. KilkennyDan Let's Go Buffalo! Patreon Champion Sabres Bills Kilkenny

Hmmm, 1. Crashing a '51 Chevy into a coffee shop and then leaving. 2. Threatening to kill a family. They're both bad, but in degree of badness they're not a bit close. ROR will pay his paltry fine and will be called rude things at road games. Kroner [del]could[/del] should be fired. ROR needs to be read the riot act; Kromer needs serious amounts of therapy.

  18. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Ya... I think the two incidents are night and day when in comparison. Kromer is a example of pre-meditated psychopathic F!ed up thinking vs an ROR's little ooops induced by MOULSON's CANADIAN.

Oddly, I find myself relieved that Oduya opted for the Stars. The team needs a LHD, and the very young D could use another vet besides Gorges. For the next three years the team will not be cap-restrained. On that basis, the 3 years and $15MM offer he rejected made sense for BUF.

However, this team needs to grow up together and after the third year Oduya would have been out. I have felt that the trade route was the better way to address the current need. The Sabres are top heavy with F, (especially C), and they should use one of them to obtain a younger NHL-ready d-man. Something like Foligno to the NJD for Merrill.

This year's defense will look a lot better than last year. 1) Ristolainen is no longer a rookie, and Bogasian is a better player for this team compared to who he replaced, Myers. Gorges is the big question after offseason surgery. Mark Pysyk is much closer than what most expect, (although he is obviously unproven). The rest of the corp is a lot better than last year's hacks. 2) Nolan was replaced by Bylsma. 3) Most importantly, the forwards are dramatically improved and will likely spend a lot less time in the DZ. This alone is enough to be optimistic for improved defensive play.

"100 percent we'll be a better team??..Look at the moves (Murray's) been able to make," Gionta continued. "You can say you want a better team, you want to bring in better players, but for him to actually pull that off and make the moves he did, it shows that he means business. That excites guys in the locker room."

Brian Gionta was an All-American all 4 years at BC, 3 of them on the 1st Team. I just found that out, thats an amazing accomplishment. I wonder how many other players have pulled that off? especially in the past 30 or 40 years, can't be many.
