Dan, I think the short term answer to your goalie issues can be solved by Antti Niemi. Im assuming that he hits the market in which case you give up zero assets other than some Pegula bucks.
Three words: absofuckinlutely NO way. Eichel will be drafted by the Buffalo Sabres; the only question is will he go back to BU for a year. To that I think the odds are about .005:1 that he's not in blue & maize in October. GM TM is going to spend a lot of time on the G question over the next couple of months. Niemi is definitely an option; but I think he's going to leave no stone unturned. If he can get a team that's top-heavy at the position to give up a good young one he'll explore that. He'll look at FA, and there are a few besides Niemi. And, he's got to decide if anyone on the roster deserves to be even given a chance in September. (Lindback played very well for the Sabres and I think he deserves a chance, but I believe TM looks at him as a fall back guy in case nothing better can be added.) This seems like a daunting challenge. But last June it looked like there was no way the team could get to the cap floor; and TM zoomed past that on July 1, (without doling out stupid contracts).
There are a ton of goalie options out there. Carolina is a long way off, I won't be shocked if they take Ward's last year in Buffalo. He's used to suck in front of him, can carry a load, and he's in a contract year so I would imagine he'll bust his rear end. I like the Niemi idea, but his agent might want a 3 yr or longer deal and that could be troublesome. There will be a pile of goalies available for 16' 2nd rounders.

WGR was set up by the government - similar to Radio Marti (or what ever it is we bombard the commies with) - to addle the brains of foreigners. In the case of WGR it is intended to confuse the hell out of Canadians about the Bills and to start thinking ridiculous thoughts about hockey. You'll be in such a shambled state that we can go in and commandeer your superior beer supply.
haha funny u would talk about radio u can only take in very small doses. i was on hold just now with my local hardware store while they looked something up. i don't know if it was a radio station or a purchased recording of some sort, but if those people ever put me on hold again, i'll just hang up.
It is looking more likely that Babs comes to Buffalo. Pegula does have his charm, (along with a bit of cash). Babs instantly makes the Sabres a more credible team, i.e., more attractive to FA's. While it may be hard to envision they should be a SC contender before the end of the five year term. I think the Sabres will get the HC that everyone was slobbering over.
Ah, that clinches it. You may see one of them in BOS in June. I love 'em because I hate 'em. They'll be a reminder of how far the Sabres fell, after - I hope - they've reached the top.
lol, i hope to Dan. a good point, could be a great reminder of how things used to be. thats like the Patriots old jerseys for me. i actually like their old unis much better but they represented such a terrible organization. the flying elvis is awful but the organization has been elite since its inception so Im alright w/ it.
