BTW did anyone else catch the Mack Wilson tweet? You'd think after his team mate was let go for the same stupidity, he'd know better. Idiot!
So, if Garrett had simply KNEED Rudolph in the nuts while they were on the ground, you would have defended Garrett? I think not... Nearly all Steelers fans conveniently forget, THIS is what started the whole melee
I think it's more like they deny it, and I don't believe it's the reason for Myles going off. I am inclined to believe he was trying to retaliate for Rudolph trying to take his helmet off. He seemed determined to remove the helmet, and once accomplished was ready to return to sanity. Rudolph's mad charge at Garret re-lit the fire, and he went ape shit crazy. Not Rudolph's fault that Garret used the helmet, but if Rudolph had let it go, Garret wasn't looking for more. Rudolph triggered the initial battle by attempting to tear Garrets helmet off, then re-ignited the battle by charging him, at a point when things were settling down. I'm not sure I wouldn't have done the same, so while I still maintain Rudolph was the instigater, Garret's decision to use the helmet as a weapon remains indefensible. I worry about Myles emotional stability, and would encourage him to pursue couseling to get to the root of why he loses control. I love his aggressive play, but for his own sake, and for that of the team and those who love him, he needs to get it under control.
Yeah I have a hard time with "if he hadn't charged him". We could draw that line anywhere including "if he hadn't taken him to the ground". Myles Garrett has been playing football a long time. He knew when the OT passed him off and the RB ran by him it was a screen pass but for some reason instead of turning and chasing the ball he decided to hit the QB and THEN hold onto him and take him down. He was definitely triggered long before Mason tried to remove his helmet. I won't pretend to know why but I know it's not Mason's fault. Mason has to own trying to take Garrett's helmet off. I get he was pissed off at being taken to the ground but that doesn't give him the right to tug on Myle's helmet. Outside of that I just don't see how a reasonable person faults him. Yes, he tried to kick Garrett off of him as he was pulling his helmet and yes he charged after Garrett but I'd probably do the same thing if someone just ripped my helmet off as violently as Garrett did. Myles seems like a good dude. He had a bad moment and that's fine. I don't have a problem with the guy. Just don't see how you can blame Mason. And the league seems to agree with me.
Not blaming Mason, just pointing out contributory behavior. Myles owns his complete lack of composure, and extraordinarily violent behavior, regardless of Mason's actions.
We've ALL AGREED, I haven't seen anyone argue FOR Myles Garrett's actions... But, this is how I feel when I watch this Tomlin take. THIS is detrimental to the league as well, when you have a supposed leader of a franchise saying there's nothing to learn from the experience. This guy is an idiot.
All I know is, it will be interesting to see how this team is received 10 days from now in Pittsburgh...
If I were a Browns fan going to Heinz Field for that game, the LAST thing I would wear is a Myles Garrett jersey.
If someone had violently ripped your helmet off in the heat of a scuffle....would you.... A. Be calm and walk away. B. Go back after that person. I'm sure right after Garrett ripped it off he was totally calm and cool too. Awesome spin.
I think it was actually an unnecessary hit to the QB with the game already decided and mere seconds on the clock that started it. Or maybe the few leading with the helmet hits throughout the game.
I think I covered this in a different thread. There were a lot of cumulative individual actions during this play that led up to the end result. None of which justify Garrett's behavior. One of which resulted in a starting safety being ejected from the game and (at least) another that put the DB in the orange tent. [From the same different thread] . . . "You either coach it or you allow it to happen".
