Re: Duke Johnson Browns haven't shown an ability/understanding of how to use him in four seasons, four different offensive coordinators. Part of that seems to be his exceptional ability at catching the ball and his relatively unimpressive ability at actually carrying the football. Kareem Hunt as a featured back proved to be a capable receiver and one of the better ones carrying the football. Nick Chubb as a featured back proved to be the best one in the NFL at carrying the football. Johnson is going to carry the highest cap number of the three and offers the least amount of upside (at least from the football-side of things).
A lot are speculating Duke will be traded but with hunt looking at possible 6 game suspension they may very well hold on to Duke. Pending on how the season goes for the Browns having Hunt come in late and fresh could be huge.
I've heard the speculation, but I don't get it...Why trade Duke? We just recently re-signed him. RB is a brutal position to play. These guys take a beating like no other position..... EVERY (contending) team needs at least 3 good RB's on the roster. The nature of the position demands it, no? Sony Michel became a household name because of a Nick Chubb injury...
https://www.news5cleveland.com/spor...mittee-in-charge-of-investigating-kareem-hunt ^^^FWIW, they must have got the okay from Dee...
The article says they aren't sure if she'll recuse herself from the committee due to conflict of interest on the punishment. But to me, it looks like Dee got enough info to do a little "insider trading" and have Dorsey & Co. get him signed before other teams really had a chance.
Yeah, I thought that was interesting...I wonder what her thoughts are on his punishment? One thing I did not know is that Hunt's father (also named Kareem) was arrested just a couple weeks ago (Jan. 25) in Elyria, for selling crack cocaine and weed...So there's that...smh Kareem really has an uphill battle on his hands...Ya never know what can surface between now and next season either. We'll just see how it plays out. Depending on the on going investigation, the Browns could change their mind. We aren't locked into anything.
One of my theories as to why Dorsey and the Browns moved so quickly on this, was so that Belichick and Kraft couldn't....
From an article over at ESPN: What is Hunt's contract status? He signed a one-year deal, which means if he gains an accrued season in 2019, he will be a restricted free agent after the season. If that happens, the Browns would be able to match any offers received from another team. To gain the accrued season, Hunt would have to be on the 53-man roster for 10 games. If he doesn't get the accrued season, he would be an exclusive rights free agent, which ties him to the Browns in 2020. Essentially, by signing him now, the Browns will own Hunt's rights for two seasons. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/25975979/kareem-hunt-browns-how-fits-status-nfl-more
