Who could catch those scud balls coming in at his knees? Njoku will be a stud once these idiots get their heads out of their collective asses and let the best quarterback play... Until then, expect disappointment.
The Browns just went to the mat with two teams that will likely be in the playoffs in December so it's not all doom and gloom for Cleveland. 'Winning' is one of the hardest things for a young team to learn how to do. The Browns are on the right track, but I still believe that Hue Jackson is the biggest roadblock for them to remove in order to be a winning team on game days.
It's the same stance I've had since the 2017 off-season. I understand their want for continuity, and I believe they are trying to get it right, but I have zero confidence in the Browns turning things around so long as he is the man in charge on the sidelines.
@Tim is somewhat on track here. The Browns just went toe to toe with two teams that were forecast to be contenders for their respective Conference Championships and a case could be made that in each of these games, the Special Teams were anything but special. But . . . From what I saw today against the Saints, I'm beginning to think (besides finding a kicker without the yips) that the offense is definately light years behind the defense. IMHO, based on what I watched today, in a dome, maybe Tyrod isn't the answer nor a very good bridge QB. If young wide receivers need anything, its consistency from the QB. Tyrod's TD pass to Calloway was a thing of beauty. Most of the rest of his throws were just about as eratic as they could get. MAYBE, just maybe, its time for Baker Mayfield.
Well then, enlighten me. What specifically did he fuck up these past two weeks that caused the Browns to be at 0-1-1 ?
You must mean other than having a gameplan that focuses on going away from team strengths and securing wins when the game is in reach by utilizing what's working instead of trying to get cute.
Be specific, please because we know that personnel decisions come from Dorsey and offensive and defensive game plans come from the coordinators with input and/or approval from the Head Coach. So, what in game decisions did Hue make that cost this team two wins?
Just to be clear - are you stating that his approval of whatever gameplan the coordinators put together does not count as credit for or against Hue when the outcome is not the desired one?
No he didn't. He made one fantastic throw to Calloway that netted us a TD. Other than that throw, he was once again hesitant and erratic. Make no mistake . . . This loss is clearly on the kicker's yips but Tyrod didn't put us in a position where we didn't need the kicker. Here's the down side to elevating Baker to QB1 right now. Timing. Its a short week and I think he'll fare better with the longer week after this Thursday night's game.
What I'm saying is that, in the prior two years, the major bitch about Hue (other than 1-31) was he was both Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator. As such, he owned the offensive game plan and everyone (perhaps even you) blamed Gregg Williams for the defensive shortfalls because Gregg was and still is responsible for the defensive game plan. Now Todd Haley is the Offensive Coordinator and is responsible for the offensive game plan. As Head Coach, Hue is responsible to ensure that Williams and Haley have done their due diligence in developing their respective game plans and that they are pretty much sticking to them as they call plays. Then, huddles up with them to go over any half time adjustments that may be in order. People's biggest bitch was his alledged bone head decisions made during the games. So, what bone headed decisions has he made this year?
I think we will save ourselves a lot of time here if we do two things - 1. Let me know what you believe Hue's responsibilities are, because if we disagree on those then this conversation is pointless. 2. I'm not 'people' and my opinion is my own. I've stated in the past my reasons for believing it was a mistake to keep Hue on but there is no point in rehashing it and having this turn into an unnecessary argument if we disagree on the #1.
Yes and no..Had the kicker made extra points....forget about the FGs, the Browns would have been ahead by 2 points, instead of tied. The defense is in a different mindset if they are on a team that has done what they need to do to win, instead of being disappointed twice that their kicker can't make a damn extra point. So, Tyrod did play well enough to win, barely...What he didn't do is take the team on his shoulders and celebrate the job the defense did by keeping the offense on the field when it mattered most in the second half. Hue Jackson made the decision to go for it on 4th and 1 from the 40, he didn't make the play call. Nor did he call the plays that went against the approved gameplan, which as you already stated, was working. I am on this boat as well. I truly believe, better QB play has this team at 2-0 along with the play of the defense. Baker is clearly the better QB, he simply wasn't playing because they felt there were things he could learn about game day from the sidelines, time to see what he learned.....
lmao! Geezus Lym...Tyrod threw the fuckin game winner in the final moments, and our kicker shanked the extra point try....His SECOND missed extra point of the day, to go along with two missed FG's....Wth are you talking about? How is that not playing well enough to win????? I hate watching Taylor play, but he absolutely played well enough for us to get the W......
Forget I said anything. Taylor played well enough for the Browns to win yesterday IMO, but I'm certainly not advocating for him to keep starting. Obviously 5 missed kicks isn't on Tyrod....Hell, if this team had a legit NFL kicker on the roster, they could easily be sitting at 2-0...That doesn't mean Taylor has been great. He's just doing what he's always done. Keeping his team in the game... Should Mayfield be starting for the Browns? Hell yes he should...I believe very strongly that the Browns would be 2-0 right now, instead of 0-1-1, if they would have pulled the plug on the Tyrod plan at halftime last week. 15 of 40, converting 6 turnovers into 7 points speaks for itself. Taylor was better yesterday, but is he the best QB on our roster? I don't think so. Not by a long shot...Baker has more arm talent than Tyrod can dream of having.
