I know that a lot of people give Sweeney & Co. a lot of shit for how things worked out last June. (I also know that a lot of those doling out the shit know a lot more than I do.) I personally think he had an excellent plan.

The problem is the rookie GM fucked up the execution of the plan. That sounds horrible. (And it is a rather damning indictment of his skills.) However it doesn't spell doom; Boston picked up a boatload of young assets last year. I view it as more a hiccup - in the grand scheme of things - than a crippling failure. As long as he doesn't go all Darcy Regier and insist on holding onto most of those young assets, he can complete the execution of the plan a year delayed.

The bottom line is the team has great young assets and if used properly they can accelerate the reload.

The only pause is that Sweeney could be a smarmy arrogant fuck like Darcy Regier and he doesn't learn a thing from last year.

this SJ/Nashville series is huge for the Bruins. If Nashville wins the SJ pick that the Bruins own should be #19, if SJ advances to the WCF that pick turns in to #27-30.

using this NHL draft value chart as a guideline, not that GM's necessarily will, you can see a big difference in value for a team like Boston that could be trying to trade up.

    http://statsportsconsulting.com/main/wp-content/uploads/Schuckers_NHL_Draftchart.pdf

Bruins own pick is #14 and worth 456 pts.
    pick # 19 is 364,
    pick # 28 is 283.

    pick #4 has a value of 783.

So is Khocklachev gone for certain now?

He'll be a nice UFA acquisition for somebody in 18' or 19'.

so many beauties on that list.
brings back some memories. some horrible, horrible memories.

Khochlachev should be dealt at the draft. because he should Im sure he won't be.

and there's your #1 Broonz prospect. Matti Kaltainen was so good at letting in goals at the worst times. Mark Staurt should've been Zach Pariise. I was sure that Andy Hilbert was bound for stardom. Lars Jonsson was something like the #7 overall pick. Ivan Huml helped bring in teh Manny Fernandez and Jordan Sigalet was a BGSU Falcon. so many bad goalie connections here.

I think he's going to Russia. The time to trade him would have been last fall.

Can't wait to see what Boston does prior to the draft.
I'm guessing they won't have 3 firsts in a row again.

  8. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

not gonna have 3 in a row tarts for sure, SJ fucked us. I now want SJ to take the whole thing.

    you're right on Khochlachev.

    my pipe dream is the Bruins 1st (#14) + SJ's 1st (#27+) + Khochlachev for pick 4-6.

It's funny, in 2004 the prospect geeks were drooling all over Chicago's system. Some of the Tallonites have reemerged from Chicago talking about what he "built". That's how I came across that list for Boston, I was showing how stacked Chicago's system was coming out of the lockout. It was amazing Tallon accomplished so little with so much. One ping pong ball bounce the wrong way, after a year Chicago was trying to win, and Kane is in PHI.

    Pipe dream, crack dream...same thing.
Is it too late to get Seabass out of there before he does any more damage?

its funny how the Hawks happened that way and so few people seem to realize it. its good on you that you're a fan and the one bringing reality to the situation.

you're lucky that the Hawks had the foresight to bring in studs like Carl Corazzini and Danny Richmond. i kid, i kid. i still tell Carl that he's part of the ground floor of the current Hawks team.

Sully has just started turning on Seabass. Still too late though.

I think it's going to be pricey to move up anywhere in the top 10. BUF's TM don't do Russians, so even with a Merican or Finn along with #14 & #27, I don't think you're getting #8, let alone a few spots higher. Not in this draft.

Put emphasis on Bob's response because he expresses himself better than I do.

Who knows, he might have started the chain of events that lead to 2010. Might have stole some of Buff's snacks in Norfolk, giving him the boost by stealing calories at the right time to get noticed. Might have pissed off Thornton, making him look bad so they quit wasting time on him. He could have inspired Bochenski while the Boston scouts were there fueling the Versteeg trade. Maybe he even gave Crawford a male hygeine tip that paved the way for Crows accomplished career.

Damn right he was on the ground floor!

part of the reason why SJ winning was such a kick in the balls, if that pick is #20 its so much more valuable.
*Warning- unrealistic crackhead hypotheticals coming????.Bruins have obvious depth in prospect Gs or a guy like Khochlachev to a weaker organization should have more value. Throw a prospect in, both 1sts and even a 2 or 3 and make it happen for a pick somewhere between #5-10.

Looking at recent drafts the first D taken has been huge, for the most part.
'15 Hanifin, '14 Ekblad, '13 Jones, '12 Murray, '11 Larsson, '10 Gudbranson, '09 Hedman, '08 Doughty. some good names there. I want a shot at the first D.

Crackhead dreams of this being a year where the first D goes in the late single digits, #7- 9 maybe. We essentially know the earliest a D will go would be #4 and even that seems unlikely.

Agreed Dan that the Broonz and Swords are unlikely partners, not only the reasons you mention but also just because of these 2 organization's past lack of trading history. After next season throw a trillion dollars at Hedman and now we're in business.

Gave you a + simply because sometimes it's just good fun to read your messages.

I think BUF could take the third D off the boards at #8. Hope only 1 is gone but expect 2 D down by the Sabres pick.

If Boston is serious, they should go full tank command before tanking becomes more frowned upon by the league.

Sell Krecji, sell Marchand. After 17' sell Patrice,Krug, and Rask (goalie market too weak right now). They can avoid the headache of losing a good player to expansion and take advantage of tanking before the game is up.

  20. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

if they can't find a way to drastically improve the D I might be right there w/ ya bob.
I'm still smoking my Broonz crack pipe and Im exploring huge trade options in my own head. perhaps my trade options will head west and find a way to converse w/ your voices.
