bad stuff- Bruins have sucky, sucky, D, blah blah blah. it's true and theres no denying it. good stuff- Spooner has 38 pts in 51 games, only 1 pt behind Krejci for 2nd on the team. NFK is on pace for 39 goals?. until he gets suspended again. Bergeron is still probably better than you think. Pastrnak ('14 25th) is the 3rd leading scorer from his class behind Ekblad and Draisaitl.
The fact that Pastrnak has any NHL ice time, let alone goals, means you scored BIG time with that pick. You have trade pieces to prop up the D while the prospects mature. And, you can get better than Wideman. I'm thinking you're gonna get really good. Just in time to give the Sabres a real tune-up in their soon-enough perennial run at the Cup. BOS's challenge is going to befall about half the league. The cap is going to be flat-to-down. You're relatively better off than many (but sucking hind tittie to BUF's enviable cap situation*) and a cap restrained NHL is going to create leverage for teams with maneuvering space. (* BUF will join the legion of pissers & moaners eventually. After all $68-75MM is chump change for Terry. We probably have about a two year window before we get to purgatory/hell.)
Observations/tropes from Saturday's game at the TD Gahden: - There are three untradeable players on the Sabres' roster: Jack Eichel, Rasmus Ristolainen, and Matt Moulson. (Having two out of three on the list due to the combination of youth & talent makes me feel good. Having one here due to his contract status; less so.) - I'm not calling it a bad call, but I do not believe Boston deserved a penalty shot in OT. - I really did not want the game to get to the S/O because their chances of a loss jump dramatically at that point. - Rob Lehner is a very big boy, and he's looking like a starter in this league. I still have severe reservations over the cost of obtaining him. But I do have a wait and see attitude. - Ryan O'Reilly is better than most people think. He's a lot better than what the Avs' FO thought. - Boston deserved the win, and Buffalo made the chowdehheads appreciate how good this team can become. (Note to TM: get us a couple of wingers and a LHD. If that opportunity arises in late Feb. then become a buyer irrespective of the standings. More likely, at least some of these parts will come in late June. - Number 1 observation: it is a lot of fun to watch a game with Matty McGee. Thank you, Matty. Every once in awhile I take one of my hats off the shelf and tool around Denver advertising someone other than the Sabres. The black with spoked-B cap will get it's day in the Colorado sunshine. It may appear optimistic, but when you look at the total state of the organization, I think the intermediate term future for Boston is very bright.
this is a really big game. points between these 2 teams have been close since the day Detroit joined the division. obviously important to Cload too as he sat Tuukka last game giving him a little breather for the Wings.
Bruins activate Adam McQuaid off IR (concussion), reassign Colin Miller to Providence. ...and I just picked up Miller to fill a roster spot in a fantasy league, Oh well.
i can't help but think the Bruins lack of moves at the deadline were Jeremy Jacobs driven. Bruins w/ Eriksson more likely to make playoffs and get a couple home playoff gates and sell more beers and dogs. Eriksson has been vastly underpaid on his last contract and will go to the highest bidder. Ive felt all along that he wasn't going to resign here anyway. not moving him for assets was a mistake.
Frank Vatrano has 31 goals in 31 games in Providence. Kevin Hayes sucks. you probably see where Im going here.
Work? Seriously, might as well bring him up... replace some dead weight. By the way... Bruins looking strong. I wrote them off a while back... I hate the taste of Crow.
lol, i wish you were wrong about the work thing. Bruins look strong against mediocre to bad teams. i don't think they can hang w/ the big boys right now though. all comes down to the D. i really like the F group in place, might be the best they've had recently. Stempniak really allows Cload to slot the lines correctly. Pastrnak and Krejci have to stay healthy though.
Yeah, in a typically weak EC, (still not sold on the Caps), I think Boston has as good of a chance to reach the ECF, if not SCF, as anyone. D has been your issue from training camp, but #40 can make up for a lot if he gets hot.
The EC better hope that some team like the Avs get hot in the WC. I do not see Lord Stanley's Cup summering in the ETZ.
4 L's in a row. I thought they actually looked good on the WC trip just couldn't muster any wins. last night was a debacle though.
Bruins sign Matt Grzelcyk (3rd round '12) to a 2 year deal. been the BU capt for the past 2 seasons and there was speculation he might wait out his time for UFA. at the very least he helps Providence but he also helps in recruiting his buddy Vesey. Grzelcyk is pretty skilled in his own right though.
