What would have been more impressive is if I just linked this: http://www.nhltradetracker.com/user/trade_list_by_team/Boston_Bruins/1 Hits the dozens of trades I missed. Lots of waiver action with the early PC years in Boston too. We're all intelligent enough to deduce that, more fun to say who was used on the pick. For example, the 2nd Burke traded Chicago for turned into Saad (even though it was Chi's fourth pick that draft and 2nd in that round) I can see giving him most of the credit for the 06' draft, but that only leaves him with Bergeron and Krecji outside of that class. I have a tough time NOT giving credit to PC because he stuck with Patrice as a core piece through all the injury troubles earlier in his career. O'Connell still should be mentioned as you said, but I still think he blew goats overall. Good stuff, any idea where I should look for that article?
its interesting, PC was already hired in Boston but was still technically still an Ottawa employee at that draft. I don't think he was allowed to sit at the Bruins table. I would have to assume that PC was pulling the strings but Id like to know conclusively who was actually in charge. That was the best draft the Bruins have had in my lifetime- acquired Rask and picked Kessel, Lucic, and Marchand at the 2006 draft. your favorite publication The Hockey News. I can't find the article online but I read it in the hardcopy where Gaudreau was on the cover. It was probably about 2 months ago.
Seidenberg's been killing this team all year, why stop now? i was just kidding bob, i know your feelings towards THN.
8+ years under Chiarelli- 376+ wins, 10 playoff series wins 9 years previous to PC- 313 wins, 1 playoff series win.
Nice work. Failure Ruined everything with dumb trades crippling the franchise etc. I love how gms in all sports get bashed or praised for trades. Almost all of them end up at or about 50-50 given enough of a sample size. In PC's case, he still landed hardware even if he did miss on a few so what's the effing problem. It's a shame the regular season is so meaningless to fans. In the cap era, I think the Pres trophy is more telling now than before and it's the best indicator of a well put together franchise because it's not subject to the randomness of the postseason. He just got one of those last year. Last time I checked they're still a playoff team too.
im not sure bob. i shouldve posted the link too because i can't verify any of it. probably just some jibroni but i like the graphs from this person. again, i can't say for sure that any of the info here is legit. https://twitter.com/bruins_stats
I have a little insight on this kid that just signed with the Bruins, Frankie Vatrano. Not a huge score or anything but I thought some of you guys might like a little back story regardless. An extremely nice kid that comes from parents that are 1st generation US citizens, parents immigrated from Italy about 25 years ago. Frankie has been a hockey star his whole life and can really shoot the puck. Not a student though. Not one of those lazy kids that doesn't get good grades because he'd rather be doing something else but a kid that has always had trouble with the books. He verbally committed to BC as a youngster (8th grader maybe?). I saw him around the rinks when I coached H.S. and always watched out for him knowing that he was going to be a future Eagle. There was something that happened where he was caught cheating on an exam, i think a standardized exam even. So he lost his scholarship to BC because of that and he and his parents were devasted. I know there were multiple crying phone calls made pleading their child's case but the administration wouldn't have it at BC, they run that hockey program like a tight ship. Not saying any of the other sports at BC follow suit but the hockey program isn't going to make the wrong kind of headline, anytime soon anyway. I think he spent an extra year in Junior, USNTDP?, and a year later or so wound up playing at UMass. All speculation but Im assuming that he went pro because he would be academically ineligible for NCAA hockey next season. Might not be book smart but he is smart enough to know to sign with greatest organization ever known to man. http://bigbadblog.weei.com/sports/b...3/12/bruins-sign-umass-forward-frank-vatrano/
Remember when the Bruins weren't going to make the playoffs and everything had to be destroyed 2 weeks ago? That was more fun than all the winning stuff.
.....and the pendulum has swung the other way. "ain't no team can take on da Broonz. We're rolling. " Never mind the fact that the Bruins aren't actually playing well at all, Tuukka bailing them out over and over. The game against Ottawa was so 1 sided, most of the TB game too. Bruins lucky to get any points in those games.
safe to say the pendulum has swung the other way. a fantastic caller this morning had something like- "Julien should be fired right now. his crap should all be in a box waiting for him this morning and Cam should punch him in the face when he comes to pick it up. "
I'm tired and bitchy. thank you for unwittingly reading the diatribe of a maniacal Broon fan that didn't sleep last night. i think its fairly clear that this Broonz team needs some pieces this off season. 1) Lucic out. this move alone would be huge for multiple reasons. first and foremost he isn't good at playing hockey. secondly someone will grossly overpay him after next season and I pray that it isn't the Bruins. would necessitate the signing of another big slow F but at 1/3 the cost. get Taylor Hall, get MacT on the horn and start w/ Lucic + Subban and work from there. 2) Seidenberg out. love what he has done but I think that his game was predicated on not losing the step that he has. could just be rusty after a major knee injury last year but I wouldn't hang on to find out at that rate. 3) Bye bye Soderberg, Campbell and Paille. out w/ the old and in w/ the new. Talbot at a nice price for next year and then you have guys like Kelly & Spooner to fill in bottom 6 roles. Not the best way to use Spooner but if he's consistently in the middle of the "3rd line" he'll get good minutes and can still be used on the PP. Same can be said for Brett Connolly. Guys like Camara, Ferlin, Florek, Lindblad and Griffith all seem like they could vie for bottom 6 mins next year. guys like Kelly, Eriksson, and Reilly Smith very much in play if other teams are interested. Probably not so much for Kelly because of his contract and I just get the feeling that pending FA Eriksson will leave after next season. I like Smith but he's been coddled enough and I think that the Bruins need more skill in the top 6 F units. He could help anywhere on the roster but Id sell on him now. 4) get a legit top 4 D. especially if you're dumping Seidenberg. acquiring a top 4 D is easier said than done but Id like to see PC at least take a swing or 2 at this. 2015 1st round pick should be in play to get this done in addition to the prospect pool and those Fs previously mentioned. This is a pressing need for this team. 5) interested to see how Pastrnak is used next year. Probably very dependent on how he progresses physically this summer. He should start hanging out w/ Ray Bourque and put a few pounds on.
Bruins pick Danton Heinen ('14- 4th rnd) has turned a few heads this season as a freshman at the University of Denver. He has 45 pts in 38 games and he's only 160 lbs, obviously lots of room to grow. In freshman scoring he's only behind Eichel-66pts and Dylan Larkin- (Det '14-1st) 47 pts. Heinen played in the BCHL before coming to Denver. That league has been a feeder to more and more NCAA prospects lately. Rumors around the deadline had other teams asking for Heinen in return for possible deadline rental/acquisitions. Obviously the Briuns didn't do much. With Pastrnak (25th overall) already in the league and then Heinen and little Donato (2nd rnd) this could be Chiarelli's 1st good draft. I should note that Donato is a long ways away if ever.
