I still can't believe how freaked out Boston is about a postseason appearance given the underperformances and the injuries. 2 EC playoff teams got in at 93 points. I'm far more interested in depth of skill and skating ability over things like size and hitting, but I really think that if the Bruins move Lucic they're completely screwed in Clode's system. I think any top 9 on a contender needs some nasty size in the top 9. Same reason I think Chicago won't trade Bickell. Anyway, if they're going to make a move with a core type, I think Krecji goes before Lucic. As bad as ST. Bigfat is, it's far easier replacing or offsetting the loss of a Krecji type than a Lucic type. I think Jack is a clown for suggesting that he would be the first piece of a major deal moved.
A few other things I took note of included that even Jack says Seguin and Kessel might be dependent on a system to thrive and that means they don't score as much in Boston. He explained the problem with a gm hire pretty well, rebuilds/retooling are pretty tough to do without wasted years. He talked about how the Broonz needed to retool this year or next, shouldn't PC get some credit for already acknowledging that by getting Fraser, Smith, and Morrow in the Seguin trade when Dallas had vets available? Didn't grabbing picks for Boychuk demonstrate that he really has evaluated his system correctly as deficient? The gm made a bunch of short term moves like Kaberle, Jagr, and Iggy and they had a really good run, shouldn't they make sure the team is going to implode, or at least not continue the run, before looking at his replacement candidates? I love the circus.
if i were on the outside i would too. You all know where I stand on this but I'll still chime in. The difference between Krejci and Lucic for this Bruins team imo- Krejci is locked up, can't really say it's at a team friendly rate but more of an open market one, imo. He'll earn his money and make players around him better. Whatever Lucic will make when his deal expires will likely be a gross overpayment and I hope its not here. I think Lucic's reputation is far greater than what he actually brings to the table. I don't think that he scares people anymore and his 30 goal season (6 empty netters) is so far back in the rearview mirror. The league seems to have adapted to him and he's a 1 trick pony so he's fucked. Krejci is a real 1C which is more valuable than a big top 9 W. I agree that big body guys are needed in the top 9 but not at over $6m per, especially when they aren't good at hockey. I think Lucic's fall will be precipitous, still a few years out but I see him signing a long term deal and really bending over his employer for the 2nd half of it. Krejci's style is more conducive to an early-mid 30s player Id think. Playoff performances are so 1 sided here and to me that is the most important factor. Lucic relies on his line mates, Krejci is the opposite in that regard.

Agreed. I consider Lucic a top line big scoring forward though. There are a very small number of 220+ players that can play in the top 9 or situational top 6 (5 on 5) on the wing. Looch, Mule, Bickell, OV, and only a handful more. OV is special, but the other 3 suck 2/3 or more (Bickell =more) of each year. There's a big dropoff in weight, hitting power, and ability to stay on the puck in a tight spot once you go down to Perry, Nash (close), Hartnell, sized guys. Anyway, since it's so rare and since guys like Horton, Burns, and Penner have lost jobs, I think the value of Looch is amplified humungous-big even though he's a suck. Given Boston's lineup and the turnover of the last 2 years, I think it's bigger still. Like right shooting dmen that can log 20 minutes a game, large power forwards, that can actually stick in the top 9 and play situational top 6, are extremely rare. Given Krecji's problems finishing, combined with the fact that he's never had sustained success without at least one or two big scoring forwards on his line, I find his skill set far more replaceable. I was looking at his ice time and splits, and there isn't much success there without large, physical, and well skilled wings. He's much closer to a Backes, Statsny, Filippula, etc. 1C-ish type than a guy who is going to carry a line on his own. I've gone back and forth on Krecji for years about being a 1C, but in Boston, I think he absolutely needs big strong, board battle winning forwards to be an effective 1C. I don't think he plugs in with a Kessel type or Hossa type as his top wing for example, Lucic is overpayed, without a doubt. I don't think there's a chance in hell that he plays to his contract. If I'm PC, I don't trade either one of them this year. It's tough to simplify the point but I think Krecji is less important to contend in the spring but Lucic is a drain on point totals throughout the regular season. I'm trying to word a point that's probably better made by using numbers.
I completely agree with this and it's a very good point to make if there's an argument to cash in on Looch. He's going to be giving a whole lot of worthless later.
