Some of yor friends are seemingly rather interested in our d-man, Ehrhoff. I do not see that happening; Buffalo is not going to send him to a division rival and then see him torment us for several years. Tallinder, on the other hand, may be exactly the type of player you need in March and April, and then discard him come June. He's a wily vet that will understand his role and step right in. I could see a ceasefire in the Buffalo-Boston rivalry coming around March 5th.
Tallinder would seem to fit. Would Buffalo be willing? ........ a pending 35 yr old UFA cant expect to bring all that much in return. That Ehrhoff contract scares me. Adding Ray Whitney could help but the ice time could be an issue. As is you have them trying to find minutes for Loui Eriksson and Chris Kelly is coming back. Adding Whitney as a 3rd line guy could work I guess. Injuries are inevitable too. I just talked myself in to it. Broonz to get Ray Whitney.
$4MM per year makes this, IMO, a moveable contract down the line. He is, based on the market today, probably a $5 to $5.5MM per year player. I am still not certain who would pay in the future if he were bought out, but in the end he's a very capable d-man with an annual salary below the market. Of course, he's already banked over half his $40MM total contract. I would not be scared off by his contract, it's just that I think Buffalo would be scared by the prospect of him being in the division for the next several years. I think that given their status, that Buffalo would be willing to move Tallinder to Boston. He's much older - this may be his final season, so if they could pick up a low draft pick or a middling prospect in return that's of greater value than a player close to retirement. He's pretty sure to be moved by March 5th, and since he won't be in the league much longer I think Buffalo would talk to Boston about this possible trade. It seems like a good fit for both teams.
Teams aren't on the hook for a recapture penalty if they get Ehrhoff. He's an excellent player to acquire on a very good contract. I think Buffalo has to keep him but that's a player and a contract I think every gm is going to kick the tires on, even Bowman and Lombardi. He's an offensive dman stuck in a trainwreck, I haven't watched him too much this year but from what I saw of him this year and last, I think he still has the talent to far exceed his cap hit. Hate to break it to you but he's going to 27 other teams.
i figured that any team taking on a player/contract would be responsible for all ramifications afterwards....interesting. As Dan pointed out, Buffalo probably not all that interested in helping the Bruins out long term w/ an Ehrhoff. seems to be the case every year w/ that guy.
lol, surprised that hasn't been brought back up. "duuuuude, Jagr is tearing it up. he musta been hurt or something last yeeeaa. get the Jagr back and we win da Cup for sure." on my way to work I heard a beauty call. went something like this- 'Ya I just wanna say that Lewwy Eriksonss is soft. his head must be made outta jello or sumthin. we should trade Eriksonss, Dougie, and all the prospects for Dan Boyle.' i was getting angry at this particular Sully when he was saying that Loui's head is soft but when it was all said and done it was apparent who's head was really soft and I took it for what it was. Could've been a joke, there are some funny callers that catch the radio guys off guard and they don't know that its a joke. I think this call was for real though.
Hu neads Sience, duh? Back to the Bruins, Chiarelli can't move too many more too many more young assets or high picks until top 4/top 6 help is positively identified can he? Given the market for blueline help, isn't it more likely they land another forward?
i would agree w/ that. there are some decent prospects that could be moved- one of either Svedberg or Subban, then Fraser, Caron, & Khochlachev. Morrow and Spooner should be off limits for now and they need to keep at least one of those young cost controlled goalies. Chiarelli's M.O. on D so far has been acquiring other team's prospects, seemingly as throw ins. Hamilton is the only D that I can think of that the Bruins have drafted and brought up. Everyone else has been small trades. Wouldn't surprise me to see more of those but I think your point is dead on- Bruins need to let the cupboard marinate a bit and see what they really have. They would have to send out a contract to do so for monetary and playing time purposes. I would think Kelly would be most likely then any of the 4th liners. Soderberg probably doesn't have all that much value and his ceiling strangely isn't really identified yet, imo. He's still an enigma, slow learning curve but still improving it seems. Bruins probably could use a vet D more than a forward but thats true w/ most teams so supply/demand curve isn't in their favor. what did you think of Bartkowski against the Hawks bob? I actually only caught the end of the game but Sully tells me that Bartkowski got a lot of minutes.
I have a tough time rating a player like him. Always amazes me how guys scout pros effectively. He looks like a good skater who isn't afraid of contact but I don't know if he's going to be a good defender. The tools are there (but how many don't have them at the big level, even a step below?). He's looked really good but there's something I don't like about him or trust, but I have no idea what it is. If I'm going to make an opinion on a young or developing player, I have no confidence in my opinion if I see them only on tv. So, I would say he looks good but I don't think that means much. He's NHL ready, but I'm not sure if he's good enough for 2nd pair duty when it comes to decision making. I'm a big fan of good skaters, and he certainly looks like one of those. During the Hawks game I was far more concerned with certain Hawks and didn't really watch for him away from the puck. I'm not an ESPN "insider", nor will I ever be, but people have posted this story on other sites. Maybe you can read the full story http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/craig-custance/post?id=1023 I guess Custance mentions the Bruins as a possible landing spot for Buff. *CRAZY* If they decide they want headlines instead of wins, this is a tremendous idea.
good point. as you mention he's a strong skater. what seems rare here is that he's confident w/ the puck. most Bruins D play the 'hot potato' game w/ the puck. hasn't translated to much offensive success for Bartkowski yet but I think it will eventually. assuming he'll be a top 4 come playoff time w/ Seidenberg down but we'll see what they bring in. don't even start w/ this guy, although I never would've guessed that Chiarelli would lose his marbles and trade for the Jagr. this Custance must be of the Eklund school or something.
Marco Sturm retiring from pro hockey. He always had great expressions on his face....weird, I know. Sturmface. Couple of big moments while he was a Bruin.
Im in a very Tim Thomas kind of mood. Known as Titties in my circle...beacuse he has big titties. Anyway, I was at this game but on the opposite end of the rink and didn't know just how unreal that save was until the next day. and you suck Downie. interesting, matty. my firewall is identifying daysofyorr, or maybe just that one pic, as a malicious URL. pretty sure you've posted pics from them before and it never said anything, not sure what to think about it.
