TSN: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=440753 Blueliners for Boston and Washington? The Boston Bruins have lost three of their last five games without blueliner Dennis Seidenberg in the lineup and Comcast Sportsnet's Joe Haggerty suggests a list of defencemen that the Bruins could target to help fill the void, including Dan Girardi, Michael Del Zotto, Mark Stuart, Christian Ehrhoff, Andrej Meszaros and Chris Phillips along with Kimmo Timonen, Ron Hainsey, Nick Schultz, Henrik Tallinder and Rostislav Klesla. So, what are you going to give us, Matty, for Ehroff and/or Tallinder?
Not commenting on who Bruins should pickup but I immediately laughed when I saw the list presented on TSN and the list offered by the link to the Boston page from the TSN story. This is why I call the hockey media Lennie. Haggerty's list is of 5 dmen. 4 from the EC and one -ex Bruin. TSN's list consists of 11 dmen. 8 from the EC, the same ex Bruin, with one being a Canadian team dman and the other guy passed through waivers and had top headlines on TSN. So many assets to use at TSN, such sad stuff. ANA, COL, CHI, PHX, LA, STL, and Vancouver all have 1 or more dmen that could probably be moved for non-roster assets to eat up minutes in the top 6. Many of those names would be useful in defensive minutes and not 1 was named outside of Klesla (but they didn't mention Stone, Morris, or Mychalek strangely).
I would think that Tallinder would be the more likely candidate Dan based on his contract. Taking on long term deals isn't Chiarelli's m.o. so I would think that would exclude Ehrhoff. if the Bruins do acquire a D-man I would hope that it would be a top 4 that can move the puck well. get in line, everyone wants one of those. No idea what the Bruins would give back but Id guess any list would include Jordan Caron, Fraser, Khokhlachev, or Subban and future picks. Also a Dman back to the other team like a Boychuk or McQuaid if necessary.
Is anybody going to give up a top 4 type without getting at least some everyday talent in return, including CGY and Buf?
I would think it would be prospects + picks at a minimum. Iginla deadline type of a deal. Girardi could work. Bruins could send a 3rd pairing D back and dare I say Krug? No chance they move Krug though. I really hope Bartkowski is untouchable, he's got top 4 written all over him. He's learning better gap control and timing when stepping up and rushing. Joe Morrow could be an asset to trade too.
i can't see any circumstances where Boston would trade Krug. he is one of the more popular and good young players for the Broonz. watch the sullys would go complete ape-shit if Krug was dealt for anything less than a top-60 overall player.
I like Bartkowski better than Krug too. Sell high on Krug. Tough to keep the little ones in the top 4 and too expensive to keep offensive defensemen as role players.
ya franks right, the Sullys would go crazy if Krug was moved. kinda surprised it hasn't happened yet. Tookker doesn't leave the net much, not that it would really matter.
First, I posted the initial message just to kick start some discussion, and I am very pleased that it seems to have worked. Second, trades between these teams are exceedingly rare. I doubt that Murray had a cozy relationship with the hockey team from Boston while in Ottawa, and I doubt it will become congenial soon. Third, as HockeyBob pointed out, there are viable candidates from the WC, and they are more likely trade partners. Last, every Sabre player is in play to be traded. Ehrhoff's contract may be too long, (he'll be 38 or 39 in 2012), but it was egregiously front-loaded, (thank God for that change in the CBA). However, it is only a $4MM/year cap hit and that's below market for someone like Ehrhoff. While I think the chances of him going to Boston are very remote, there is a decent chance that he is moved in March. (He does have a limited NMC - brilliant, Darcy!)
This I could see. He is old enough that he'll be retired before the Sabres return to competitiveness. The rivalry has been on the back burner* due to Buffalo's suckiness. (* Although, as you know, many Sabres fans do not seem to grasp this.) I think he may fit Boston's needs better anyway. It's not like they need long-tern solutions on the blueline.
