Amen. It was more than just the accent that annoyed me...Her character had heart, but dropping 5 F-bombs every sentence made her seem stupid, even though she wasn't.
To me it Stranger Things gets on the list for the show alone. I also move it in because of its impact when it comes to streaming services. It basically changed the face of streaming in much the way Lost changed tv. The impact it has had culturally by influencing a return to some 80s style clothing, and hairstyles (the mullet has made a return). One of it's biggest impact might be in music where season 4 has boosted a number of 80s hits to climb the charts one again. As for its biggest impact look no further than how Dungeons and Dragons has grown since season one of Stranger Things. Of course its just one mans opinion to put it on the list but it has done far more than just entertain.
This is a really good point. I don't think it necessarily changes the subjective quality of a show in someone's eyes, but I think that giving full credit to the scope of cultural impact it's had is important. To support your point, Jeanquev, I was at a bar a couple years ago with coworkers, and it came up that I played D&D. In the years prior, I had to explain what it was from ground zero, and people were very skeptical. This time? They all were super interested, claiming that Stranger Things had turned them onto it, and wanted to know more about it, how they could find a group to play with, etc. When you think about how niche D&D was, and how it's exploded in the larger cultural consciousness... That's such a huge impact. I didn't think it could do that, but I've seen the evidence more than once.
