Vikings keep fourth-string quarterback Kyle Sloter on the 53-player roster The Vikings are in the unusual situation of having three quarterbacks who could start on a lot of teams, with Case Keenum as their starter, Sam Bradford as Keenum’s backup, and Teddy Bridgewater as the third-stringer who was inactive on Sunday. But those three aren’t the only quarterbacks in Minnesota. When the Vikings activated Bradford, they also kept quarterback Kyle Sloter, an undrafted rookie from Northern Colorado, on the 53-player roster. That’s very unusual, as many teams don’t even keep three quarterbacks on their rosters, let alone four. But it’s a sign of how much promise the Vikings think Sloter has that they don’t want to release him from their roster now and risk some other team signing him. As Vikings radio announcer Paul Allen noted this morning on PFT Live, when the Vikings originally signed Sloter to the practice squad in September, they paid him significantly more than practice-squad players typically get paid because they wanted him to choose Minnesota over other practice-squad offers. That paid off when Bradford and Bridgewater were both hurt and Sloter was available to be called up to the 53-player roster. And with Keenum, Bradford and Bridgewater all in the last years of their contracts, it’s easy to picture the Vikings only keeping one of them in 2018 and Sloter being promoted to No. 2. There’s precedent to that working out well: In 2000, the Patriots kept four quarterbacks, including fourth-string rookie Tom Brady. In 2001 he was promoted to second string, then after he took over for the injured Drew Bledsoe, Brady led the Patriots to the Super Bowl.
Interesting....i wonder who AP was pulling for Saints or the Vikings when is this guy going to retire he has not been a factor in a long long time
The Vikings are still stuck in this dark ass tunnel...are the Vikings cursed quick call a medicine man or Warlock or witch or a voodoo priests somebody anybody to change this string of bad luck
Its heartbreaking for sure... I don't know why I keep getting my hopes up only to have them dashed against the rocks, lol. The cool thing is... back in October I would never have thunk we had a chance to be contending for a SB... that's a trip. I don't like the fact that Pat Shurmur is splitting too. The curse continues.
Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph, safety Harrison Smith and defensive tackle Linval Joseph are headed to the Pro Bowl, the NFL announced Monday. Rudolph replaces Seahawks tight end Jimmy Graham, who withdrew with an injury; Joseph replaces Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, who can’t play for obvious reasons; and Smith replaces Giants safety Landon Collins, who withdrew with an injury. It is Smith’s third consecutive Pro Bowl. Joseph and Rudolph both will play in their second. Rudolph earned Pro Bowl MVP honors in the 2013 all-star game. The Vikings had seven players earn Pro Bowl honors, with linebacker Anthony Barr, defensive end Everson Griffen, cornerback Xavier Rhodes and wide receiver Adam Thielen also earning all-star nods. Barr and Griffen withdrew earlier Monday.
I'm glad they fixed the Harrison Smith oversight.now what about Kendricks looking towards to the draft now
Darrell Bevell for OC wasn't he the Vikings OC before?,and how come the NFL can't find some new guys to coach these teams...getting a little Sick and Tired of this merry GO round
I don't think he was... been with the Seattle Seahawks and its just an interview. Vikings also considering their QB coach.
Darrell Bevell was the Vikings OC and Favre years the NFL CHAMPIONSHIP game in 2009 from 2006 to 2010 I know the Vikings can find somebody else, wasn't they talking about the qb coach being the OC
Zimmer said he’d like to fill the position “as soon as possible,” but he added that he would take his time and make sure he got it right. When asked if there was a chance to promote from within, Zimmer said: “Well, I think we have a lot of good offensive coaches,” Zimmer said. “But, we’re going to work through the process and see where it all goes.” Zimmer also was asked specifically about what kind of candidate quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski would be. “I think he’s good. Kevin is a very smart guy,” Zimmer said. “I need to sit down and talk to him. I need to sit down and talk to some other people and figure out what the best thing is for us moving forward.”
Looks like Kevin Stefanski i don't know a lot about him being the next OC if he gets the job he's on the coaching staff so Zimmer would have some idea how good he will be
This is a very tough schedule the Saints then the Bears Lions Packers Rams Seahawks Patriots then maybe they get a break with the Jets but there no pushover either and the last game is against the Eagles
The schedule is a tough one to see if the Vikings getting into the playoffs or not in 2018 we will see what happens, the SB Bold North is pretty cool man they got a lot of stuff going on and US BANK STADIUM LOOKS AWESOME..just to bad the Vikings are not in the SB ( sigh ) there are a lot people here but it is Cold and getting colder and the wind brr
