Michael Floyd suspended for first four games of 2017 Michael Floyd will miss the first quarter of the season. The Vikings wide receiver was suspended for the first four games of the 2017 campaign for violating the league's substance abuse policy, the team announced, via a league spokesman. In late June, a judge sentenced Floyd to a day in jail and ordered him to serve the final five days of his previously issued house arrest for violating the terms of his DUI conviction. Floyd tested positive for alcohol while on house arrest, but said the positive test was due to his consumption of Kombucha tea, which he didn't realize contained alcohol. Floyd pleaded guilty to extreme DUI in February after Scottsdale police found him unconscious behind the wheel of his SUV in December. The 27-year-old served the first 24 days of his 120-day jail sentence at a county facility before spending the final 96 days in home confinement, according to court records. In addition to jail time, he was ordered not to drink alcohol, undergo alcohol counseling, perform 30 hours of community service and pay a fine of $5,115.99. (NFL.com)
WOW! what break you got don't be a knuclehead and blow it....now all you got to do is make the team good luck its in your hands
Teddy practiced without the leg brace last week. I would be willing to bet he will play some football this season. That would be remarkable.
Just don't rush it but it is a good sign...i just don't get the Teddy Haters,he's the kind of qb he to has to have good players on the O-line so he feels comfortable in the pocket...would like see him go for it more being accurate is more important than the deep bomb IMO
Vikings ST coach wants Dalvin Cook to return kicks Dalvin Cook enters training camp set to battle for the Minnesota Vikings' featured running back role. If Vikings special teams coach Mike Priefer gets his way, the rookie will have more on his plate than just learning plays from the backfield. Priefer told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday he's lobbying coach Mike Zimmer to use Cook on kickoff returns, per Alex Marvez. Priefer added he's not holding his breath over the request. The Vikings have a need on kickoff returns after former first-round pick Cordarrelle Patterson left for Oakland in free agency. Cook wasn't the return man at Florida State, but owns the big-play ability to thrive in the role. You can certainly understand why Priefer would put in the request.
I'd keep Dalvin out of that mix. Best case scenario - Cook becomes a three down lethal weapon. Worst case scenario - Cook becomes a utility weapon with home run hitting ability. No sense in risking that on special teams, especially for a team that will need to grind out wins to take a division title.
I tend to agree, especially since there's a real good chance Cook is the starting RB. Vikings can use Sherels for kick returns, but even after him the depth chart gets pretty shallow, lol. Most likely the ST Coach is seeing a speedster and his eyes are lit up like a deer in headlights, which paints a nice picture of how impressive Cook is. I'm still going to miss Patterson and so is Minnesota.
I think Dalvin could be a solid return man. His running style is set up off of short steps, quick one foot cuts and solid speed. In regular kick off returns this is nearly and ideal way to run. However, I think he would absolutely get killed as a punt returner, lol.
I do not want Dalvin Cook returning kicks why don't they try Stacy Cole is he still around ? and Jerick McKinnon...how tricky ricky let CP get away to join the Raiders i will never understand, the Vikings i fear will never be an elite team with this gm
So it begins not so good for Murray with him always being hurt could be a bad sign..like the new look can you still edit your post thought that was really cool, this in way is a make or break year for tricky ricky
I hear ya... loosing Murray before the season even starts doesn't look good if that happens. McKinnon is smiling and chomping at the bit now... all of a sudden the Vikings don't have the depth they need at RB. Floyd missing the first 4 is bad for the Receiver core also, but hey, were Vikings fans, ought to be used to this by now.
Vikings finalizing extension for Everson Griffen The Vikings are close to wrapping up a new contract with pass-rusher Everson Griffen. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Vikings are finalizing a four-year extension with Griffen which should allow him to finish his career there. The 29-year-old Griffen had two years left on his existing deal, and was set to make $6.9 million this year and $8.4 million in 2018. The former fourth-round pick has found his stride with the Vikings, with 30.5 sacks the last three seasons, including 8.0 last year. He’s also been incredibly durable, as he’s only missed one game over the last six seasons.
Vikings sign cornerback Sam Brown, release tackle Arturo Uzdavinis The Minnesota Vikings made a change to the bottom of their roster on Wednesday as veterans reported for the start of training camp. The Vikings signed former Baltimore Ravens cornerback Sam Brown and released tackle Arturo Uzdavinis. Brown (6-1, 175) signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent last season out of D-II Missouri Western State. He was released with an injury settlement in August and returned to the team’s practice squad late in the season. Uzdavinis had signed with the Vikings earlier this week to bring the roster to 90 players before the start of camp. Ultimately, his stay with Minnesota was short-lived.
Vikings Air It Out in 1st Full Team Practice The Vikings offense took to the skies during team drills Thursday, unleashing a handful of deep passes to stretch the field. Wide receiver Cayleb Jones was on the receiving end of a pair of nice catches, including a tumbling sideline grab and another in which the former Arizona standout got past safety Jack Tocho and cornerback Sam Brown. Wide receiver Jarius Wright also had a clutch grab at the end of practice in a team session during a late-game situation. Quarterback Sam Bradford connected with Wright in the back of the end zone, leading to a regular-season like celebration from the offense. “The game was on the line and he made the play,” said wide receiver Laquon Treadwell. “We all celebrated and had fun with it.” Left tackle Rashod Hill was thrown into the fire a bit Thursday as starter Riley Reiff missed a portion of practice. Hill, who was signed by the Vikings off Jacksonville’s practice squad late in the season, was tested by edge rushers Everson Griffen and Danielle Hunter. The 25-year-old out of Southern Mississippi produced a mixed bag of results but also held his own against the pair of defensive ends. Youngsters step up A pair of young Vikings cornerbacks made a splash Thursday against the first-team offense. Trae Waynes had one of the prettiest defensive plays of the day when he showed great closing speed to bat away a deep pass intended for Stefon Diggs. Mackensie Alexander was beat deep by Michael Floyd in one-on-one drills but rebounded to corral an interception in front of Adam Thielen. He later broke up a pass near the sideline intended for Isaac Fruechte. (via - Vikings.com)
