Sharrif Floyd is fighting to save his football career.

The Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle has yet to recover from nerve damage that occurred during September surgery to repair the meniscus in his knee, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via a source close to Floyd. The nerve that controls the quadriceps still isn't firing six months later.

Although there's optimism that the nerve will eventually cooperate, Rapoport added, no one knows for sure.

USA Today's Tom Pelissero first reported the lingering complications from Floyd's knee surgery.

"Sharrif is rehabbing, has seen some of the best doctors in the country," agent Brian Mackler told Pelissero, "will continue to rehab and hopefully, this will heal sooner than later."

Floyd alluded to the health issue last weekend, posting an Instagram message that indicated he is praying the "road doesn't end here."

"Don't let me go out this way," Floyd continued. "... This game means so much to me and the foundation is still being laid one stone at a time. ... Grant me one last run, I promise I'll lay my soul on the line."

Vikings bring in former Rams QB Case Keenum

The Vikings have found insurance for Teddy Bridgewater at backup quarterback.

Minnesota has agreed to terms with former Rams quarterback Case Keenum on a one-year, $2 million deal, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported, via a source informed of the details of the contract.

Although Sam Bradford is locked in as the 2017 starter, Bridgewater remains a question mark as he works his way back from last summer's devastating knee injury.

When asked earlier this week if Bridgewater will ever play again, coach Mike Zimmer replied, "I honestly have no idea."
That being the case, Keenum will replace long-standing No. 2 QB Shaun Hill, who remains unsigned as a 37-year-old free agent.

    Keenum;

After entering last season as Los Angeles' starter, Keenum lost the job in response to long stretches of action without finding the end zone. By midseason, the undermanned Rams offense was the league's least efficient.

Over 24 NFL starts and 26 appearances, Keenum has recorded a 58.4 completion rate, 24:20 TD-to-INT ratio and 78.4 passer rating.

He has stunk as a starter, but he had little help. Hopefully, he's better as a back-up.

Former Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier is in his first season as Bills defensive coordinator. Buffalo also has signed former Vikings Joe Banyard and Vladimir Ducasse in free agency.

    Vs. San Francisco (2-14 in 2016), Preseason Week 3 (7 p.m., Aug. 27)?
    1. 2016 Rankings

    Offense: 308.1 yards/game (31st), 126.2 rushing yards/game (4th), 181.9 passing yards/game (32nd), 19.3 points/game (27th)

    2. Overhaul
Former Falcons/Browns/Redskins/Texans (in reverse order) Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who was born in Minneapolis, was hand-picked to overhaul an offense that struggled mightily. The 49ers ran the ball well, but were one of just four teams to average fewer than 200 passing yards per game. Shanahan?s Falcons ranked third in the category in 2016, averaging 295.3 per game.

    3. Exchange rate
The 49ers used free agency frequently this offseason to adjust their roster, bringing in quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley, as well as receivers Pierre Gar?on, Marquise Goodwin and Aldrick Robinson, as well as linebacker Malcolm Smith and fullback Kyle Juszczyk. Veterans Antoine Bethea, Torrey Smith and Phil Dawson are the most notable departures who have signed elsewhere. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick remains unsigned.

After working as offensive coordinator for the Bears (2015) and Broncos (2013-14), Adam Gase led Miami in his first season as a head coach to four more wins than in the previous season. The 39-year-old will try to keep raising the bar in chase of their division mate and defending champ Patriots.

    3. Catch and keep
The Dolphins re-signed a couple of key catches, receiver Kenny Stills and safety Reshad Jones, as well as defensive end Andre Branch and guard Jermon Bushrod. They also brought in veteran linebacker Lawrence Timmons, who played 10 seasons in Pittsburgh, and signed tight ends Anthony Fasano, who played for the Dolphins from 2008-12, and Julius Thomas.

Brian Robison says he'll likely retire after 2018

While the Vikings spend the offseason strategizing how they'll attempt to bounce back from 2016's disappointment, it's safe to observe from afar that their window of contention might be closing.
One Viking has placed a deadline on his own chances.

? Defensive end Brian Robison told the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Friday that he thinks 2018 will be his final season in the NFL.
"I really do believe that probably at the end of those two years, it will be it," Robison told the Pioneer Press. "It'll be about my time to call it (a career), but we'll see how I feel when I get there. ... But I would say that more than likely, that will probably be the time that I'm going to have to lay things to the side and get ready for life after football."

Robison turns 34 in just over a week, and recently restructured his deal to run through 2018. He's played 10 seasons in the NFL, all with the Vikings, and has been part of playoff teams four times, losing three times in the Wild Card round and once in the memorable 2009 NFC title game against New Orleans. He's been a consistent pass rusher off the edge in both good times and bad, compiling 269 tackles and 56 sacks, including a season high of nine sacks in 2013. At 33, Robison's production (28 tackles, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles) mirrored most of his career.

If he follows this plan, he'll retire after a dozen seasons in Viking purple and gold. He'll finish among the franchise's top five in career sacks.
