The Vikings on Friday announced that they had released guards Brandon Fusco and Mike Harris. Following those roster changes, ESPN?s Ben Goessling said Minnesota is ?officially in the market for a right guard? and will most likely also address the tackle position. Goessling wrote the following about an overhaul of the offensive line that he predicts ?will be substantial?: For the second straight offseason, the offensive line will be the Vikings' chief priority ? only this time, the mission cannot be characterized as an upgrade. An overhaul is necessary, with injuries and ineffective performances having stripped away all the options the team believed it had heading into training camp last year. Since the Vikings currently have no first-round pick in this year?s NFL Draft, Goessling said the Vikings will most likely utilize free agency. Players like Cincinnati's?Kevin Zeitler?will be expensive, and Bengals tackle?Andrew Whitworth?could be an attractive option even at age 35. The Vikings could need to add more than one veteran to the line this offseason, and few things might be more pivotal to their 2017 success than whether they make the correct line decisions (particularly at tackle) in the next couple months. (Vikings.com) _____________________________________ Looks like some big FA's are going to need to be signed. Not much else the Vikings can do to make significant changes on the O-line.
IMO they need to draft a center and get a left and right tackle in FA....oh almost forgot draft a STUD rb!! its a big need, and show TJ Clemmings the door ASAP
Pat Shurmur: Full offseason will help Sam Bradford The Minnesota Vikings acquired Sam Bradford eight days before the 2016 season started. After sitting in Week 1 win, the 29-year-old started the final 15 games of the season. Bradford set career highs in yards (3,877), completions (395), threw 20 TDs to five INTs and set an NFL record with a 71.6 completion percentage. Despite the numbers, no one watching the Vikings' offense would describe it as explosive or even efficient. Behind a debilitating offensive line, Bradford had the NFL's shortest average target last season. He maddeningly threw short of the sticks on third down with regularity. The porous blocking and no run game to speak of relegated the Vikings offense to dink-and-dunk, and led a risk-averse Bradford to get rid of the ball instead of stretching the field. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who took over the duties midway through the season, believes a full offseason in the program will help the rapport between Bradford and his receivers, allowing the passing attack to make a leap forward. "When he comes back [for the Vikings' offseason program in April], him having the ability to sit down with the players he's going to play with through the offseason, we'll do things that fit his eye, that fit with what we do," Shurmur said last week, via ESPN.com. "We'll be able to practice that more. When he came in this year, everything was running parallel and real fast. He had to get up to speed with what we were doing, he had to quickly learn the players he was playing with. That connection between the quarterback and the skill players is extremely important, and that chemistry is built really in the offseason, when you get the chance to slow it down and run the individual routes that are within the concept, so he gets a feel for their body language and vice versa. That's where you're hopeful that you're going to see a big jump in efficiency in terms of the passing game." (NFL.com)
well lets hope that Sam and the receivers find some chemistry this offseason, how did Ricky not draft Cody Whitehair last year i'm very MAD about that the Vikings could have used him on the O-line,how does he keep his job?....be real nice to see a big jump in the passing game hope they fix there Red Zone problems
i was just over at NFL.com its looks bad for Teddy his playing days might be over,if he does come back will he ever be the same its looking more and more like this will be Sam Bradford's team...will the Vikings draft a qb this year or next ( hope he don't get hurt!!!! )
I'd like to say this Peterson situation sure is frustrating and I blame all of the Vikings, Pertson and his reps for causing such an issue. There should have been enough for-sight to see something like this happening. Only extremely rare players can play a career without serious injury or something detrimental happening to them or a key player. The Vikings and Peterson havnt even talked to each other yet... and there's no way Peterson takes a cut on a restructured contract. He needs to be traded asap. I don't know enough to think of anything better, but who would take on that contract? This sucks! (as beavis would say)
i'm confused to by the Vikings Peterson hang up this should have been worked out by now, either he takes a pay cut or he's gone can't afford him..it is time to draft a rb no disrespect to AP its just time,WTF they haven't talk to each other..is Sharrif Floyd a bust seems like he's always hurt
The Vikings announced they will not exercise the 2017 option on RB Adrian Peterson. The Vikings are moving on without Adrian Peterson. Minnesota announced Tuesday that it will not exercise the 2017 option on Peterson's contract. The running back was due $18 million, but will now become an unrestricted free agent on March 9. "Adrian is an important part of the Minnesota Vikings organization," said Vikings general manager Rick Spielman in a statement released by the team. "We will continue to have conversations with his representatives and leave our future options open while determining what is best for both parties moving forward."
i read that to the handwriting is on the wall AP will have to take a pay cut or else,i know the O-line needs works but i hope with there 1st pick its a D-lineman
he was a very good linebacker in the NFL,the vikings were lucky to have him for 11 years that's a rare thing in today's NFL to play for one team...congrats enjoy your retirement
AP to the PATS ? chasing a championship if that really happens,be real funny if the Vikings played the Patriots in the SB at US BANK and won lol...i don't think that will happen though hope not
He's take a pay cut there, but not in Minnesota... don't know what I think of that, but hey! AP, C-YA!
it is strange its just time for the Vikings to draft a workhouse rb and for AP not think of himself and help the new guy to shine, time to turn page and take the next step
Vikings bolster O-line with tackle Riley Reiff The Vikings have found much-needed offensive line help after missing out on new Lions tackle Ricky Wagner. Minnesota is set to sign former Detroit tackle Riley Reiff, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via sources informed of the deal. A first-round pick in the 2012 draft, Reiff started 69 of a possible 80 games over five seasons with the Lions. He was ranked No. 19 on Around The NFL's list of the Top 101 free agents.
