Zimmer calls out 'soft' O-line after 'embarrassing' loss

Mike Zimmer's blunt honesty makes him a good coach. If players don't want to hear the truth, they won't last long under Zimmer.

After Sunday's 21-10 beatdown in Philadelphia, the Vikings head coach took his team to task.

"It was embarrassing in at least two of the phases and I'm very disappointed in the performance that we gave today," he said, via The Star Tribune We turned the ball over offensively, we didn't block people, we dropped balls, we got the quarterback hit, we [need] two inches and we can't convert on third down or fourth down, we got three shots in the red zone in the first half, we throw an interception, we gave up a 98-yard kickoff return, we fumbled a punt. If you're going to do those things, you have no chance to win."

Zimmer brought the verbal hacksaw down particularly hard on his porous offensive line.

"We didn't block anybody," he said. "We were soft. We got overpowered."

The Vikings allowed six sacks and 12 quarterback hits. Sam Bradford played his worst game in a Vikings uniform, losing two fumbles and throwing an interception. Zimmer, however, defended his quarterback, who was under siege all game.

"It's hard to really evaluate his performance when it looked like a sieve in there," Zimmer said. "... It's hard to throw when someone is grabbing your arm, so I'm not concerned about Bradford."

Zimmer noted that Minnesota isn't going to magically find quality offensive linemen on the street. With little cap space and already down a first-round pick, a trade is a fan's fantasy at this point.

Zimmer was asked if he could put a finger on why his previously undefeated team struggled Sunday.

"I don't know. I'm going to put my finger on some things this week," he said. (NFL.com)

that's why they lost if they don't fix this O-line the Defense is playing well, the lack of muscle and no O-line push and redzone problems was one reasons why they lost.....plus the Eagles just kicked there azz Big Time

Norv Turner resigns as Vikings offensive coordinator

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) ? Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner has resigned. He's been replaced on an interim basis by Pat Shurmur.

The Vikings announced the news on Wednesday, two days after their second consecutive defeat. They've scored only 10 points in each of those games.

Coach Mike Zimmer picked Turner to run his offense when he was hired by the team in 2014. After two seasons of unremarkable production, Zimmer hired Tony Sparano as offensive line coach and Shurmur as tight ends coach to work with Turner. That put three former NFL head coaches on the offensive staff.

Zimmer was scheduled to discuss his decision at his news conference later Wednesday.

The Vikings (5-2) host the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

"I have tremendous respect for (head coach) Mike Zimmer, our coaching staff, and our players and at this time I think it is in the best interest of the team to step down. I thank the Wilf family for my time here in Minnesota and want to see our players and coaches achieve success."

Speaking to reporters, Zimmer said he was "very, very surprised" when Turner notified him Wednesday morning he was resigning.

"He decided it was in his best interest to do this and I accept the reasons, and they are personal, and I won't get into the reasons of why he did," said Zimmer... (NFL.com)

the Defense will be just fine..the Offense is full rebuilding mode they HAVE to get a stud center in the draft you were right about Sam Bradford some of those sacks are on him holding the ball,he has to get rid of the ball quicker, needs,qb,rb,cb,rebuild the O-line, CJ Clemmings looks lost and confused....the backups are starting DEPTH DEPTH its like i'm lost for words here.
