Vikings running back Cam Akers will miss the rest of the season with a torn Achilles tendon. That was believed to be the case as soon as Akers went down on Sunday, and it was confirmed by an MRI today, coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed today. This is the second time Akers has torn his Achilles. He previously tore it in July of 2021 when he was with the Rams and made a remarkably quick recovery, getting back on the field for the final game of the regular season. But even if he can repeat that remarkably quick recovery this time, he won’t be at full speed until April. Akers is second on the Vikings with 138 rushing yards this season, and without him the Vikings don’t have much in the way of a backup running back behind Alexander Mattison.
Vikings plan to start Josh Dobbs this week The Vikings didn’t plan on playing quarterback Josh Dobbs in Week 9, but they are planning on having him make the start in Week 10. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell made that announcement at a Monday press conference. Dobbs entered Sunday’s game against the Falcons in the first quarter after Jaren Hall left with an injury and he piloted an improbable comeback win five days after joining the Vikings in a trade with the Cardinals. Dobbs was getting information on the plays from coaches and teammates while going 20-of-30 for 158 yards and running seven times for 66 yards. He ran for one touchdown and threw two more, including the game-winner to Brandon Powell with 22 seconds left to play. Even if Dobbs had not impressed while pulling out the 31-28 win, the Vikings would likely be making the same plans. Hall was diagnosed with a concussion, so the Vikings can’t plan on having the rookie available against the Saints. Sean Mannion is on the practice squad and Nick Mullens is on injured reserve, which makes Dobbs the easy choice to lead the Minnesota offense this week.
Dobbs is a very smart man. I think he was a road scholar at Tennessee. I know that he graduated with honors
Is Ty Chandler the next man up? the Vikings kinda avoided the injury bug last year but it's not the case this year, cause injury bug is just destroying the Vikings
Vikings have not yet determined if they’ll open Justin Jefferson’s practice window this week Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson is eligible to come off of injured reserve this week. But as of Monday, it’s unclear whether or not Minnesota will open his 21-day practice window. Head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters during his press conference that the club is still working through the options with Jefferson. “We’re going to do what’s best for Justin, and make sure when he does return, he can be the Justin Jefferson we all know and can expect to see,” O’Connell said, via Ben Goessling of the Minnesota Star Tribune. Jefferson has been out since suffering the injury in the Week 5 loss to Kansas City. In five games, Jefferson has caught 36 passes for 571 yards with three touchdowns. Despite missing the last four weeks, Jefferson is still No. 18 in receiving yards among all players. NBC
They need Justin Jefferson this guy is so important to the offense Jefferson and Addison the dynamic duo could be like Chris Carter and Randy Moss they were awesome!
Main concern is to not rush him back, which I can understand, but when he's good to go, what a lift that will bring.
The facet Im really intrigued by with Dobbs is his running game. Its a breath of fresh air to have a mobile QB on the field, this will open some doors offensively that we havnt seen in a while. 3rd n shorts are going to be much more efficient with Dobbs having wheels if the WR's are tightly covered.
What a difference it made having a mobile QB someone that can move around pocket now if he can be consistent Dobbs cause Jaren Hall didn't look bad either until he got hurt.....is Josh Dobbs or Jaren Hall TOUGH like Capt Kirk?
Dobbs may be smart and tough, dangerous combo thats good to have. A little bit of luck goes a long way too.
Report: Justin Jefferson unlikely to return vs. Saints Dual reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero signal a Justin Jefferson return is increasingly unlikely this weekend. Jefferson has missed the previous four games with a hamstring injury, the first missed time of his career. After spending the past four weeks on injured reserve the Vikings could open a 21-practice window for Jefferson, but as soon as that window opens they have 21 days to activate him for place him on IR for the rest of the season. On ESPN's Monday Night Countdown, Schefter said, "We'll see when Justin Jefferson can get back. Initially, when he hurt the hamstring it was projected to be a 4-6 week injury. This is four weeks. He's going to be meeting with doctors. Kevin O'Connell said today they'll get an update later in the week. It's still an ongoing process... It doesn't sound like he's coming back this week, but it doesn't sound like he's far away either." Pelissero also reported Jefferson is "unlikely to play this Sunday against the Saints." Head coach Kevin O'Connell joined The Pat McAfee Show Monday and said Jefferson's return is more than just about getting back now it's also about the long-term. "Justin Jefferson has killed his rehab so far, he's in a great spot. We're just now to the point where we could possibly open up his window, we'll keep evaluating that throughout the week, maybe we can get him going here this week. I can tell you one thing Justin is so important, not only for every opportunity this season but for many, many more, hopefully, years to come as a Minnesota Viking," said O'Connell. Despite missing their star receiver the Vikings have gone 4-0 without Jefferson, passing for 1,053 yards in that stretch. Rookie receiver Jordan Addison has stepped up in a big way, catching 22 passes for 285 yards and four touchdowns the past four games. O'Connell made clear Monday that Jefferson's long-term health factors significantly in the decision to bring him back. "So we're going to make sure that we're ultra-sensitive to getting him back to 100 percent before he's out there," the coach said. "And as well as he's done with his rehab, we still have to be smart and make sure we're looking out for Justin. Justin will be back out there when he's ready to roll and nobody will be more happy about that than me." FAN NATION
Your to important to the offense to rush back not 85٪ or 95٪ but 100% glad to read your doing good with the rehab and take your time
