ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports the Vikings are moving on from linebacker coach Greg Manusky. Newcomer defensive coordinator Brian Flores appears to be grooming his defensive coaching staff with the move. Manusky has over 20 years of experience coaching the defensive side of the ball, including multiple stints as defensive coordinator during his coaching career. _______ ________________ Hi, my name is Brian Flores, your new DC... your fired!!!
So it begins Patrick Peterson and Dalvin tomlinson have had contracts voided looks like Jalen Reagor is on the chopping blòck ĥere come the strart of painful cuts
Defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson and cornerback Patrick Peterson both had their contracts voided on Monday, adding approximately $8.25 million in dead money to the team’s salary cap for the upcoming season. These figures had already been figured into the numbers that we’ve seen for much of this offseason so far, so they don’t make the team’s salary cap situation any worse. Tomlinson’s contract accounts for approximately $7.5 million of the dead cap space, which almost certainly means that he won’t be back this upcoming season. If the team had been interested in bringing him back, they could have worked something out before now to mitigate some of that cap hit and bring him back into the fold. Peterson’s case might not be quite as clear-cut. Much like last offseason, Peterson has made no secret of the fact that he’d like to remain with the Vikings, and since he’s not taking up nearly as much dead cap space as Tomlinson is, the team could end up bringing him back to once again mentor the team’s young cornerback corps. The Vikings are going to have to make a lot of moves to get themselves under the salary cap and ready for this offseason, which officially starts with free agency in mid-March. With the team still tight against the cap and several important situations that need to be resolved, it will be interesting to see just how Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and company handle things to try to keep the Vikings in the competitive portion of their competitive rebuild in 2023. Thanks Rick Speliman for all these massive contracts now we see what kind of wheeler and dealer Kwesi-Adofo-Mensah is and I hope they bring back Patrick Peterson and they keep Harrison Smith, it will be a very interesting offseason
Report: Void date of Dalvin Tomlinson’s contract moved to March 15 Vikings defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson played out the final year of his contract during the 2022 season and that deal was set to void early this week with negative salary cap implications for the team, but the two sides reportedly agreed to move that date back. Field Yates of ESPN reports that the void date has been moved back to March 15, which provides more time to talk about a new deal before $7.5 million in dead money lands on Minnesota’s cap. If they should agree to an extension, some of that cap hit will likely move into the future. Tomlinson has started all 30 games he’s played for the Vikings since joining the team in 2021. He had 42 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble during the 2022 regular season. Cornerback Patrick Peterson‘s contract was also set to void this week and there was less pressure to work out a new deal before that happens because the void year only left $750,000 of dead money on the cap. I think a trade for Jalen Ramsey should be considered by the Vikings. It would be a bit difficult to work him in as he is due a big pay-day for 2023. The need for a man-to-man cover guy at CB is a high priority for the Vikings and the Flores style defense. At the present the Vikings have just 3 CB's rostered, so something must give, if not via the draft. If they were to go after him, Ive read that the contract could be workable, but there is a problem with the Vikings being short on Draft picks. Sure would be nice tho, to land a big fish like him and go elsewhere in the draft, such as D-line, RB or QB... the sky is the limit, sorta. Just a dream/thought, but who knows. Guess I can speculate like all the rest of them.
What a shock kinda embarrassing he came out òf dark to find out nobody wants him or this clown show HEAVY SIGH looks like the NFC North is going to be stuck with this a**hole, really hope the JETS do not trade for him he's only won 1 SƁ I really doubt he can take them to a SB IMHO
I hope the Vikings do not give Capt Kirk an extension they can't afford him and make the team better after Daniel Jones $45 million and what will Capt Kirk ask, as good as he can be at times..no SB's I don't think he never took the Vikings to an NFC Championship game and how many playoffs has he won they just can't afford him
Report: Brian Flores 'Absolutely' Wants FA CB Patrick Peterson Back With Vikings Peterson, who turns 33 this summer, is coming off one of the best seasons of his career. Will veteran cornerback Patrick Peterson be back with the Vikings in 2023? Peterson, who is coming off one of the best seasons of his Hall of Fame career at age 32, is an unrestricted free agent after signing one-year deals with Minnesota in each of the last two offseasons. Brian Flores replacing Ed Donatell as the Vikings' defensive coordinator felt like an indication that Peterson was unlikely to return to the Vikings in free agency. Flores traditionally loves to run man coverage, which may not be the best fit for Peterson at this stage of his career. He had an incredible 2022 season — 5 interceptions, 15 total passes defended, and an 82.5 PFF coverage grade — playing mainly zone coverage in Donatell's Fangio-style scheme, which allowed Peterson to have eyes on the quarterback. But don't count out a reunion just yet. According to KSTP insider Darren Wolfson on SKOR North's Mackey & Judd, Flores wants to coach Peterson this year. "I'm told (Flores) absolutely wants Patrick Peterson back," Wolfson said. "I'm led to believe strongly that the Vikings definitely want Patrick Peterson back." Interesting. Bringing Peterson back would mean one of two things — either Flores doesn't actually plan to run as much man coverage as his history suggests, or he thinks Peterson can still thrive in man at age 33. The latter seems more likely to me. Not only has Peterson been productive in his two seasons with the Vikings, particularly last year, he's been hugely valuable as a locker room leader and mentor for young defensive backs. A team captain, Peterson hosted young corners for weekly dinners and film sessions at his house this past year. At the right price, bringing Peterson back could make sense for a Vikings team that badly needs cornerback depth. Still, I'm not questioning Wolfson's reporting, but this feels odd to me. I know Peterson has greatly enjoyed his time in Minnesota, but after having an incredible season in a Fangio-style defense, wouldn't he want to remain in a similar defense instead of playing a lot of man coverage under Flores? Peterson was a dominant press man corner in his prime days with the Cardinals, but he's not the same athlete he was back then. INSIDE THE VIKINGS
Its tiring to have these Cousins discussions every year accross the WWW, Vikings news pages and every other out-let known to man, but Spielman made that bed, the Wilfs agreed and here we are again. In my view, there are 3 options... 1) let him play the contract out as it is now, but that involves the risk of losing him for practically nothing. 2) Extend him and call him the franchise QB of the future, which will cost a boat load. 3) Trade him, but for what, or whom? Im no Trey Lance fan and his name pops up all over the place... why, I dont know, he is unproven as far as im concerned. Im hard on Lance just because i dont have any tangibles worthy of investing the future in. Its a very dicey situation for the Vikes to be in. Im hoping KOC and Adofo have a very good Magic 8 Ball and can see exactly what the future holds. Vikings have a ton of potential headaches to work out financially and a few 'Superstars' who are going to want a pay-day also. So its not just a Cousins thing, but Jefferson, Hockenson, etc, etc.
Viking ball was more fun to watch than any other ball last year and that's pretty cool. I don't see any reason why they can't win the NFC North this year.
lol, damn near killed me.... over and over. I hope they are competitive again... will be interesting to see how they handle all the contracts and new schemes. Im looking forward to seeing a Browns resurgence also, good luck. Good to see you around, by the way.
Yeah it's the same thing and it's getting tiresome just let him play out his contract they just can't afford him I heard the name Trey Lance to the Vikings which could be bs too many holes to fill and Justin Jefferson MUST be paid it's a mess a real shit show
Vikings release Eric Kendricks The Vikings are moving on from one of their key defensive players. Minnesota has released linebacker Eric Kendricks, the team announced on Monday morning. “As a Pro Bowler and team captain, a Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee and a leader of the Vikings social justice efforts, Eric leaves a powerful, permanent legacy within our organization and the Minnesota community,” Vikings G.M. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said in a statement. “While he is best known as a playmaker and respected linebacker across the league, Eric’s contributions to the Vikings extend far beyond the field because of his selfless and unwavering commitment to improving societal issues. I have the utmost respect for Eric and wish him and Ally, along with their growing family, continued success in their next chapter.” Kendricks was a second-round pick in the 2015 draft and it did not take him long to become a major contributor to Minnesota’s defense. Over the last eight seasons, he’s appeared in 117 games with 113 starts. Kendricks was a first-team All-Pro in 2019. Kendricks has led Minnesota in tackles in each of the last two seasons. He recorded 137 of them in 2022, with eight tackles for loss, a sack, and six passes defensed. “It is extremely difficult to start more than 100 games in this league, but Eric has been a staple in the locker room since he entered the NFL,” Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said in a statement. “During my first year as head coach, Eric played a critical role as a captain and a member of the leadership council in helping establish the culture we want in Minnesota. He was a consistent mentor to his younger teammates, and his tireless work ethic set a standard for others to emulate.” By releasing Kendricks, the Vikings will save $9.5 million in cap space with $1.93 million in dead money. Kendricks had just one season remaining on his contract. Kendricks is immediately eligible to sign with any club. PFT
This is just the start of the painful cuts but this has to happen in order to get younger and faster to improve your team i just have this strange feeling the NFC North will be a real dogfight between the Bears Lions Packers division games are always tough
KJ Osborn is a hero, rescues man from burning car Minnesota Vikings wide receiver KJ Osborn has had an eventful off-season. On Sunday night in Austin, Texas, Osborn helped rescue a man from a burning car. Recently, Osborn joined ESPN’s Adam Schefter on his podcast to tell the story. “Most of the time, the saying goes, “wrong place wrong time,”” Osborn said on Twitter. “but this time I believe God had me, us, at the right place at the right exact time.” According to Osborn, he was in the back of an Uber on his way home when his Uber driver realized that the man had crashed his car. Osborn, the driver, and two others immediately sprung to action to help pull the man from his vehicle. Osborn does not know the full extent of the man’s injuries but told Schefter that he believes their actions helped save his life. He also told Schefter that he plans on visiting the man in the hospital soon. Osborn played in all 17 games for the Vikings and finished with 650 yards and five touchdowns on 60 receptions. Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen has been having ongoing discussions about his contract with the organization. The 32-year-old wideout is set to earn nearly $20 million for the upcoming 2023 campaign. That is quite a lot of money for a wide receiver that hasn't topped 1,000 yards receiving since 2018. The team could save $6.4 million by cutting Thielen and $13.4 million by releasing him post-June 1 designation. It wouldn't be shocking to see the Vikings move on from Thielen. He has become the No. 3 option on this offense. Another option, would be Thielen taking a paycut to stay in Minnesota. The Vikings would likely be open to this considering Thielen is still productive, but isn't worth the money he is being paid. The paycut would need to be significant, but might be the best result for both sides.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller
