Maybe if Mike Pettine gets more involved with the defense they can fix a few things. Right now as it stands, Donatell isnt cutting it on his own, the schemes arnt working and the secondary is playing way to soft. The pass coverage is non-existent at this time. Sure there are injuries, but the formations and play calling must change.

There must also be more Blitzing... the 4 man rush thing is not in any way shape or form putting enough pressure on the QB's. They must learn to at least blitz once in a while. Vikings are in terrible shape defensively and the o-line is a mess at times too, but thats another story.

Minnesota (10-3) will return home Saturday to face the Colts at noon (CT).

Cousins said the team has to come together and learn from its mistakes in preparation for its next opportunity to clinch the NFC North division.

"You never want to lose – I think the silver lining of a loss is the constructive work you're going to do now to get things corrected. I think that will always be there when you lose, and when you win it's always tempting to look past mistakes that get made," Cousins said. "I'm not saying that's happened, but it can be tempting. When you lose, there's that urgency that's naturally there that creates some good improvement. So that's a silver lining, but you need leadership after wins, you need leadership after losses. That will always be there to keep everybody focused and ready to go for the next challenge."

Kevin O’Connell: Justin Jefferson keeps taking illegal hits, and they don’t seem to be accidents

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell is not happy with some of the hits wide receiver Justin Jefferson has taken.

Jefferson, who was on the receiving end of a hit that drew an unnecessary roughness penalty on Colts cornerback Stephon Gilmore on Saturday, has repeatedly drawn illegal hits, and O’Connell believes opposing teams are targeting him.

“I think it’s about the fifth or sixth week in a row he took a type of hit that drew a flag. Clearly, there’s an emphasis on the teams we’re playing that some of those hits, they don’t just seem to be by accident at times,” O’Connell said, via Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Jefferson leads the NFL with 1,623 receiving yards this season and has a chance to break the all-time NFL record for receiving yards in a season. Clearly, he’s the player opposing defenses are focusing on. But O’Connell believes teams are doing more than just focusing on Jefferson, and purposely taking illegal shots at him. And by talking about it publicly, perhaps he’s hoping that the officials and the league office are keeping a closer eye on it going forward.

Dont sweat it... its just an opinion by some guy with a big mouth, big microphone on a big network. If you look at the actual numbers and stats, Cousins is doing alright, in fact he's mostly Top 10 material at that position.

They need to just watch a replay of the F'n game to see that Cousins wasnt the problem at all... in fact a true hero, imo.

Vikings complete largest comeback in NFL history to defeat Colts 39-36, clinch NFC North

Have you ever seen a game like that?

Of course you haven’t. None of us have.

The Vikings were down 33-0 at halftime and outscored the Colts 39-3 in the second half and overtime to pull off the largest comeback in NFL history for a 39-36 victory.

It was a performance that essentially had to be seen to be believed. But kicker Greg Joseph nailed a 40-yard field goal through the uprights as time expired in overtime to win the game and clinch the division.

Minnesota’s comeback effort began with K.J. Osborn scoring a 2-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter. After Chase McLaughlin hit a 52-yard field goal to make the score 36-7, C.J. Ham picked up a 1-yard touchdown run toward the end of the third quarter.

Justin Jefferson caught an 8-yard TD and Adam Thielen caught a 1-yard touchdown to make the score 36-28 with 5:30 left in the game.

Minnesota should have scored a defensive touchdown with 3:28 left in the fourth quarter, as Chandon Sullivan picked up a fumble and went 39 yards to the end zone. But Jackson was incorrectly ruled down by contact on the field. And once that happened, even when the play was overturned to fumble, the ball was placed at the spot of the recovery.

Still, the Vikings tied the game at 36-36 when Dalvin Cook took a screen pass 64 yards to the house. And T.J. Hockenson caught a two-point conversion.

Minnesota got the ball first in overtime but its drive stalled and the club punted. The Colts didn’t get into scoring position and punted from its 44-yard line, with Minnesota taking over at its 18-yard line with 1:41 left.

With no timeouts, the Vikings moved into Colts territory with a 21-yard pass from Cousins to Thleien. And when Jefferson caught a pass at Indy’s 27 with just under 20 seconds left, the Colts were flagged for an obvious defensive delay of game as the unit was trying to stop the Vikings from being able to spike the ball.

It didn’t work and Joseph sailed his 40-yard attempt through the uprights to complete the comeback — though it’s worth noting that even if he’d missed it, the Vikings would have clinched the NFC North with a tie.

Cousins finished 34-of-54 passing for 460 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. Osborn had a career day with 10 catches for 157 yards with a touchdown and Jefferson finished with 12 catches for 123 yards.

The second half was such a stark contrast from the first, in which the Colts scored four field goals and a touchdown each from special teams, offense, and defense.

But in the end, the Colts fall to 4-9-1 — 1-4 since Jeff Saturday took over as interim coach.

The Vikings are now 11-3 and will host a postseason game at U.S. Bank Stadium.

And there’s now another Minneapolis Miracle.

Justin Jefferson on hits he takes: They try whatever it takes for me to not get big plays

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed unhappiness this week about the number of illegal hits that wide receiver Justin Jefferson has taken this season and shared his feeling that “they don’t just seem to be by accident.”

Jefferson weighed in on the topic on Wednesday and he appears to have the same view as his coach. Jefferson cited an example from the NBA to support his belief that the hits are a deliberate strategy to keep him from putting up big numbers.

“It’s just like Michael Jordan and the Detroit Pistons,” Jefferson said, via Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. “They try to take out the best player. Try to put as much physical abuse that they can on him. Those defenses . . . they try whatever it takes for me not to get those big plays.”

Colts cornerback Stephon Gilmore was penalized for a hit on Jefferson in last Saturday’s game and the wideout said he took particular issue with that blow.

“I didn’t really feel that it was a clean hit,” Jefferson said. “I mean him lifting up and going (to) tackle me high I felt like it was a little dirty hit. That’s kind of why I really got angry. I’m glad that I was OK.”

Gilmore was penalized and the Vikings lost Jefferson for a portion of the game so he could be checked for a concussion. That’s a trade teams might be willing to make if it keeps Jefferson or other highly productive wideouts from putting points on the board while defensive players remain in the game.

I also agree that some of the shots on Justin Jefferson in the NFL have been a little sneaky dirty cheap shots but Stephon Gilmore had played a little dirty IMO he didn't have to cause he is a good player,But I'm Not Holding My Breath For Them To Do Anything

Stephon Gilmore fined $15,914 for hit on Justin Jefferson

The Vikings were hopping mad about a hit that Colts cornerback Stephon Gilmore put on wide receiver Justin Jefferson last week, and the league disciplinary process has confirmed that Gilmore crossed the line.

Gilmore was fined $15,914 for his hit on Jefferson, in which he launched into Jefferson on a pass over the middle.

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell made clear that he wasn’t happy about the hit and said some of the illegal hits on Jefferson appear to be intentional. Jefferson said opposing defenses are trying to take out the best player.

Colts defensive lineman DeForest Buckner was also fined $15,914 for a roughing the passer penalty he committed against Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Excellent point. These clowns can afford these fines, but dock them a couple games without pay on top of it and they might clean up a bit. Who knows.

Always takes an injury before the NFL finally takes action... chump change fines probably dont mean or do a thing.

Jefferson and the likes must be aware of whos on them and keep their heads up and on a swivvle... DB's around the NFL are head-hunters at times and I get thats just football, but the cheap shot stuff needs tougher penalties. Start taking them out of the game and maybe even coaches might get on them about there techniques... i dont know, but WR's need to be on-guard and keep themselves in a position of defensive safety also.
