Zimmer would like to have Cassell back... In my opinion, if Cassel does resign with Minnesota, I doubt the Vikes go after Vick. Things kinda hinge on what Cassel wants to do. He's in a pretty good situation, if you ask me.
John Breech...CBS. New Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said this week that he'd love to have Matt Cassel in Minnesota if Matt Cassel wanted to be in Minnesota. Apparently, that's exactly what Cassel wants. The 31-year-old quarterback has agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal with the Vikings, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has confirmed. Cassel originally signed a one-year deal with Minnesota in March 2013, a deal that included an option for a second year that Cassel could void. Cassel exercised his right to void the second year, which would have paid him $3.7 million in 2014, that decision paved the way for him to become a free agent on Tuesday. Instead of becoming a free agent though, Cassel decided to re-sign with Minnesota where he'll make an average of $5 million per season over the next two years. Cassel's deal is similar to the two-year, $8 million deal Chad Henne signed in Jacksonville on Friday. In both cases, neither quarterback is the long-term solution, but both coaches felt that it was imperative to keep their best starter from 2013. Cassel started six games for Minnesota in 2013 and went 3-3. In games where Cassel didn't start, the Vikings went 2-7-1. Cassel joins Christian Ponder as the only other quarterback on the Vikings roster. Minnesota will almost certainly be adding another quarterback and that will likely happen in May's NFL Draft, unless of course Vikings general manager Rick Spielman lets Adrian Peterson pick the quarterback. So, what you think?
The Vikings have also re-signed Marcus Sherels a CB/PR. I like this guy...he can fly. Maybe they should play him at wide reciever once in a while...see what else he can do. Maybe Im reaching.
Cassel it's good signing the ground under Ponder is shaking, now they can pick a QB in the draft to develop and hold the clipboard Greg Jennings can be part of the game plan cause Ponder could not find him for some reason,it kinda makes vick an afterthought lets hope for a good draft and Cassel has a decent year
not all that shocked that Jared Allen the guy wants to test the free market,i wish him well and he gets paid and i hope he gets a ring Everson Griffen he seemed just ok at times imo who knows maybe he just might bust out!
Damn...i really did not want the Vikings to lose him,Peterson,Gerhart,Asiata,it seemed like a good line up you..but can't blame the guy he wants to play
when are the Vikings going to address the Defensive backfield, looks like the Linval Joseph signing is a good one from what i have read...it kinda seems like they want to just sit back and watch ( oh no is going to be the same old same old? ) i'm starting to wonder here are they interested in building a team that can win the SB,,players and coach's have left the Vikings and gone on to win SB's its just depressing at times
Vikings.com reports: The Vikings have a proud history of stout defensive line play. Minnesota is the home of the Purple People Eaters, after all. In the opening moments of 2014 free agency, the Vikings appear committed to fortifying their defensive line and establishing a new era of dominance under new Head Coach Mike Zimmer. The latest move in this effort came on Wednesday, with the Vikings agreeing to a free agent contract with former NY Giants defensive tackle Linval Joseph. Entering the week, Joseph was NFL.com?s fifth-ranked free agent defensive tackle and the 24th-ranked free agent overall. The folks at Pro Football Focus had similar respect for Joseph, listing him as their fourth-ranked defensive tackle and the 21st-ranked free agent overall. It wasn?t that long ago when the Vikings boasted the League?s most dominant run defense, ranking number one in that category for three consecutive seasons (2006-08). The addition of Joseph, a 6-4, 323 space-eating and run-stuffing defender, will help the Vikings improve against the run. Joseph?s size is a good complement to the explosiveness and quickness of Sharrif Floyd, who was selected 23rd overall in last year?s draft.
Vikings PR... The Vikings have re-signed veteran offensive linemen Joe Berger, the club announced on Wednesday. Berger has appeared in 45 regular season games in his 3 seasons with the Vikings, making 9 starts. In addition to his duties on the special teams unit, Berger has started games at center and both guard positions as a Viking. He saw action in all 16 games during the 2013 season, including starts vs. Washington (11/3) and vs. Philadelphia (12/15). As a blocker on the kick return unit, Berger helped the Vikings to the highest average starting field position after a kickoff in the NFL in 2013. Berger joined the Vikings in Week 2 of the 2011 season and entered the NFL as a 6th-round pick by Carolina in the 2005 Draft. He has appeared in 87 games with 19 starts in his 9-year NFL career with Dallas, Miami and Minnesota.
Good question. Here is what the scuttlebutt is as far as I can tell, and related to what Ive heard and read. 1. He had 5 wins last season. 2. Out of the 8 TD's to Jennings and Patterson, 7 of them came through the air from the arm of Cassel. 3. Norv Turner...The Vikings think he will have success in improving and working with Cassel. 4. Cassel can throw a decent deep ball, and knows the offense. 5. He's hopefully a good QB to have, while they transition to a new, younger, possibly drafted QB of the future. 6. He beat the day-lights out of the Eagles. Thats all I got...I hope it works out. They just believe he's going to better than Ponder turned out to be, and be the guy who will run the show till they get their man.
The signing of Joe Berger is a good one imo it adds some much needed depth to the O-line,yeah ok Cassel he's a stop gap he might not be all that...but he was a way QB than Ponder and plus he thew the football downfield
Vikings add a CB... MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Vikings have been looking for a tough, play-making defensive back to cover slot receivers ever since they parted ways with beloved veteran Antoine Winfield before last season. Captain Munnerlyn is ready to fill those shoes. The Vikings agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the free agent cornerback on Thursday, continuing the team's aggressive pursuit of defensive help in free agency. Munnerlyn played the first five seasons of his career for the Carolina Panthers, where he returned five of his seven interceptions for touchdowns. ''We have a new coaching staff in Minnesota and I'm excited to get to work with these guys,'' Munnerlyn told The Associated Press. After signing a one-year, $1.1 million deal with the Panthers last year, Munnerlyn posted career highs with 74 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks. He also returned both of his interceptions for touchdowns and parlayed that into a deal that could be worth as much as $15 million with the Vikings. Munnerlyn, who will turn 26 next month, has scored four defensive TDs in the last two years. He was a seventh-round draft choice after leaving South Carolina after his junior season, and the 5-foot-8, 165-pound Munnerlyn has been proving that he belongs ever since. ''Everybody looks at my size and says, `Oh man, he can't play. He's too short to play outside corner, or he's too short to do this,'' Munnerlyn said in a conference call later Thursday. ''That's the biggest key with me, man. I was just trying to go out there and prove I can be an every-down corner, that I can make plays and bring toughness to a team.'' Winfield knows a thing or two about that. The diminutive cornerback spent nine seasons with the Vikings, establishing himself as one of the hardest-hitting defensive backs in the league. Munnerlyn said early in his career his coaches showed him game tape of Winfield. ''I kind of stole some of his game and brought it to my game,'' Munnerlyn said. ''I don't hit as hard as he does. He can really bring it when he tackles. But I try to go out there and make the tackles and make plays just like him.''
Check it out, Bad Man...Vikings signed even another CB... I think someone is listening to you, Bad Man.
Captain Munnerlyn seems to be ok i see him playing the nickel imo,is he the next coming of Antoine Winfield? dreaming...Derek Cox from what i have read when he at Jacksonville he was good CB but when he was with the Chargers he was very bad could not stay healthy Zimmer seems to like him i know nothing about this guy we will see how it goes its just a one year deal
Charlie Johnson stays with Minnesota...The Vikings have signed a few new players on defense. On offense, they?ve been focused on keeping some of their own. In addition to quarterback Matt Cassel, receiver Jerome Simpson, and offensive lineman Joe Berger, the Vikings have re-signed guard Charlie Johnson. According to Darren Wolfson of 1500ESPN.com, Johnson agreed to a two-year deal.
