Vikings second-round pick Ed Ingram is set to sign his first NFL contract.

Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reports that Ingram has agreed to terms on his four-year deal with the team. The guard’s agreement leaves second-round cornerback Andrew Booth as the team’s only draft pick who hasn’t agreed to terms yet.

Ingram started 35 games during his time at LSU, including 12 times at right guard as a freshman in 2017. He was suspended for the 2018 season, but returned in 2019 and started at left guard over his final two seasons.

Ezra Cleveland is expected to start at left guard for the Vikings. Jesse Davis and Chris Reed are options at right guard with Ingram likely also in the mix for playing time if he has a strong camp.

    TRAINING CAMP PREVIEW

Players report: July 24 (rookies); July 26 (veterans)

First practice: July 27 (full schedule)

Location: TCO Performance Center | Eagan, Minnesota

    Notable acquisitions/re-signings:

    • QB Kirk Cousins (extension)
    • OG Jesse Davis
    • OG Chris Reed
    • DT Harrison Phillips
    • LB Jordan Hicks
    • LB Za'Darius Smith* (No. 21)
    • CB Patrick Peterson* (No. 81)
    • CB Chandon Sullivan

    Notable departures:

    • TE Tyler Conklin (Jets)
    • OL Mason Cole (Steelers)
    • DE Everson Griffen
    • DT Michael Pierce (Ravens)
    • DT Sheldon Richardson* (No. 79)
    • LB Anthony Barr* (No. 60)
    • LB Nick Vigil (Cardinals)
    • S Xavier Woods* (No. 91; Panthers)

    Subplots to track:

    1. The Vikings are evolving from a ground-and-pound offense to a more pass-happy unit under Kevin O'Connell. How will that transition look for Kirk Cousins? Third-year pro Justin Jefferson is poised to be among the league leaders in catches and yards. With Adam Thielen and K.J. Osborn rounding out the top three WR spots, how will the competition for the No. 4 role shake out?
    2. Dalvin Cook talked this offseason about being more involved in the passing game. It will be interesting to see how O'Connell utilizes the workhorse back. Will the three-time Pro Bowler, who's averaged 314 touches per year since 2019, get the ball in space more to help keep his body from wearing down while not totally curtailing his touches?
    3. If healthy, Za'Darius Smith and Danielle Hunter could be the top pass-rushing tandem in the NFL. But they played a combined eight regular-season games last year. Their health will be key to the Vikings' defense recapturing form under new coordinator Ed Donatell. Elsewhere on defense, how will the corner crew stack up in the new system after last year's struggles under Mike Zimmer?
    4. Who will win the battle at right guard? Jesse Davis, Chris Reed and second-round rookie Ed Ingram are vying for the gig. Last year, the position was an Achilles' heel for the Vikings. Solidifying that spot up the middle would be huge for Cousins.
    5. How does Kellen Mond improve under the new staff? The second-year quarterback might start camp behind veteran Sean Mannion, but I'm interested to see if Mond improves after being in Zimmer's dog house all of last season and weathering a bout with COVID-19, which put him behind. Can the Texans A&M product show enough improvement with his opportunities to at least win the backup job?

The Vikings have gotten their 2022 draft class under contract, just in time for the rookie class to report for camp.

The team announced that cornerback Andrew Booth, Jr. agreed to terms. He was the 42nd overall selection in the draft.

The Vikings also announced that 31 players reported for camp on Sunday; all rookies and quarterbacks are there, including Kirk Cousins. Certain players who are rehabbing injuries, including tight end Irv Smith, also reported.

It’s the first camp with a new G.M. (Kwesi Adofo-Mensah) in well over a decade, and that first with a new head coach (Kevin O’Connell) since 2014.

Now that's very impressive there are no holdouts don't know if this will work out time will tell but the change is nice..the Vikings still need a big body Ď-lineman to add some muscle to help the run Defense..cause it was pitiful

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah acknowledges the limitations of Kirk Cousins

The Vikings have opted to keep plenty of incumbent players in place, even with a new General Manager and head coach. However, G.M. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah admits that he at least pondered a quarterback change.

“I’ll be frank,” Adofo-Mensah told Jori Epstein of USA Today. “The one asset where you get nervous about not burning it down is quarterback.”

The General Manager acknowledges that Cousins is a “good quarterback,” but Adofo-Mensah added that “we don’t have Tom Brady . . . we don’t have Pat Mahomes.”

    So is Cousins good enough?

“[The Super Bowl] is more likely to win if you have that quarterback,” Adofo-Mensah said. “It’s very unlikely to have that quarterback.”

The active Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks include Brady, Mahomes, Matthew Stafford, Nick Foles, Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, and Aaron Rodgers. That’s seven, and only five of them are starters.

The problem for the Vikings is that, if they’d moved on from Cousins, who would they have gotten? There wasn’t an overabundance of potential upgrades at the position. Wilson and Deshaun Watson. That’s pretty much it, unless they could have lured Brady to the state where his mother grew up.

So they’ll hope to make it work with Cousins. Maybe having an offensive-minded coach will make a difference. Regardless, there’s a gap between Cousins and the best quarterbacks in the game. If Cousins is ever going to close that gap, now is the time.

And even with a little tough love coming from the G.M., Cousins should find a more welcoming atmosphere in the locker room, now that the curmudgeonly Mike Zimmer has left the organization.

Cousins is the man... there is no one else. Even the GM pisses me off with these comparisons. Step into reality and root for Cousins... he isnt exactly chopped liver and he has a good team and a good/new coaching staff.

When the Vikings win the SB this season... eat crow MFers!

Report: Vikings using open roster spot to sign tight end Shaun Beyer

The Minnesota Vikings didn’t make the splash Ndamukong Suh signing on Monday, but they are signing second-year tight end Shaun Beyer to fill the last vacant spot on the 90-man roster, per the Pioneer Press’ Chris Tomasson.

It’s an interesting signing considering the legitimate need at the tight end position. The team was believed to be entertaining calls from former Viking Kyle Rudolph before he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Beyer joins a group of tight ends with blocking as their primary expertise, aside from their No. 1 option, Irv Smith Jr. The former Iowa standout follows a talented line of Hawkeyes tight ends that have recently included T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant.

As expected, there was a lot of waiting for Beyer to finally get his opportunity in college, but throughout his tenure, he only hauled in 18 passes for 275 yards and one touchdown. So this likely isn’t the insurance option Vikings fans were hoping to see as a backup for Smith.

If anything, Beyer is a supreme athlete with experience playing multiple sports. The hope here is that head coach Kevin O’Connell can get more out of him at the NFL level at some point.

As for Suh, the door isn’t completely closed on the Vikings landing the star defensive tackle. But like they did when they waived quarterback Nate Stanley, they’d have to move another player on the roster to create an open spot for him on the team.

I agree with you. Adofo said some peculiar things regarding Cousins and I doubt Kirk takes it lightly. Cousins is good and he is who is is and he is what Adofo has, period. GM Adofo needs to learn to use the cards he's been dealt with wisely and in this situation I dont believe he did.

If im Kirk, Id be a bit pissed and would go behind a closed door and say; hey look, you got some splainin' to do. No, he isnt Tom Brady or Pat Mahomes, but in my opinion, he is pretty damn good and can take this team places.

Im probably the biggest Cousins fan around and I sure hope he serves a lot of loud-mouths a heapin helpin of crow, lol.

Kirk Cousins “not too concerned” with Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s comments

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins signed a one-year extension with the team in March, but General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah didn’t sound totally convinced that was the right decision in a recent interview.

Adofo-Mensah told Jori Epstein of USA Today that the “one asset where you get nervous about not burning it down is quarterback” and called Cousins a good quarterback, but not one in the class of Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes. He went on to call winning a Super Bowl likelier with that type of quarterback, but Cousins didn’t sound overly put out about the comparison.

During a Thursday press conference, Cousins was asked about Adofo-Mensah’s comments and said he hasn’t spent much time pondering their meaning.

“I haven’t given it much thought with training camp being so busy and consuming so much of my time. I’m not too concerned about it,” Cousins said, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com.

The Vikings did not radically overhaul their roster after hiring Adofo-Mensah and head coach Kevin O’Connell earlier this year and their results in 2022 will likely determine if next year brings a bigger shakeup at quarterback and elsewhere.
