Danielle Hunter is going have to make up his damn mind PDQ if you want to be a member of the Minnesota Vikings, I just wonder him not going to OTA's is going it to be drama all over again in 2022 2023 is it time for the Vikings to start looking a DE...can the Vikings have one year free of drama lol maybe that's asking to much
Hunter will be ok, but they really need to look for another DE on the opposite side of Hunter who can compliment him. The players they have there now arnt really big in the sack department and that allows O-lines to pay closer attention to Hunters side. The Vikings need more balance in that regard.
it is something how Everson Griffen helped Danielle Hunter out he might not get the Sacks ( just luv em ) but he did cause disruption can the Vikings make Barr into a DE?
Vikings tabbed as having a top-10 offseason After a disappointing 2020, the Vikings made sure to revamp their defense through free agency and add enticing offensive line prospects through the NFL draft. According to CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin, that puts Minnesota squarely in the conversation for one of the best offseasons in the NFL. Benjamin wrote: “We’re not going to argue if you put a cap on their ceiling so long as Kirk Cousins is under center, but it’s hard to find much wrong with what Minnesota did in prep for a potential make-or-break year at QB. Mond may not challenge until 2022, but his presence should at least motivate Cousins. Better yet, the defense feels like a safe bet to return to form. Tomlinson and Richardson instantly improve the D-line alongside a healthier Danielle Hunter, and both Peterson and Breeland bring stability to a young secondary. Do we smell an NFC sleeper?” As of now, the NFC North looks up in the air. Assuming Aaron Rodgers stays in Green Bay, the Packers should be the favorites. But don’t count on Rodgers to stay and don’t count out the Bears with Justin Fields. It’s a good thing the Vikings added a lot of help to the defense. They probably need it. VikingsWire
Harrison Smith on contract: Going to see what we can do Harrison Smith is heading into his 10th season as a Vikings safety and he hopes that it is not his final one. Smith is in the final year of the five-year extension he signed with the team in 2016 and told reporters at the team’s minicamp that he’d like to sign another deal that ensures he continues to play in Minnesota. He did not make it sound like there has been much meaningful discussion toward getting anything done, however. “I don’t have a solid answer for you, but obviously I’ve been here going on 10 [seasons] and would love to be here in the future,” Smith said, via Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “Going to look at those things and see what we can do. That’s about it right now.” Smith is one of several veteran Vikings defensive players in the final year of their deals and the unit’s ability to bounce back from a dismal 2020 showing may determine how they decide to go forward on that side of the ball. ESPN lists the biggest Vikings question left to be answered Minnesota’s offensive line had an up-and-down 2020. The Vikings also saw left tackle Riley Reiff leave this offseason. Reiff had a PFF grade of 71.4 and gave up just one sack this past season. Minnesota will presumably replace Reiff with first-round pick Christian Darrisaw. ESPN’s Courtney Cronin thinks the Vikings offensive line remained a question mark. Cronin wrote: “Will the projected starting five of Christian Darrisaw, Ezra Cleveland, Garrett Bradbury, Wyatt Davis and Brian O’Neill be ready to go Week 1? We didn’t see the Vikings’ first-rounder Darrisaw take snaps as the first-team left tackle in OTAs or minicamp, partially due to the fact that Minnesota wanted to ease him into the mix and because he was limited while recovering from a groin strain this spring. Additionally, will the Vikings use the $13.5 million in cap space to bring in a No. 3 receiver to give the offense another layer in the passing game? And most importantly, who starts at defensive end opposite Danielle Hunter?” Third-rounder Wyatt Davis could slot into the starting guard role, but if Davis isn’t ready to start, maybe the Vikings could go out and land a guard in free agency. However, as Cronin pointed out, there are other pressing needs. Maybe the Vikings will just let the offensive line remain a little uncertain for the time being. VikingsWire
I don't get it Irv Smith Jr at Wr3 just seems like a natural fit,Conklin proved that he can be the TE time to go for broke enough of the boring conservative Offense it might work or it might blow in there face....IT'S A PROVE IT YEAR FOR ZIMMER go for it
Personally, id rather leave Smith Jr at TE and bring in a FA to play WR3. Right now Conklin is a good rotation and backup to Irv. Its nice to see just 2 spots of concern on the Vikings roster... not a lot of teams can say that. Solve the DE position across from Hunter and bring in a WR and your in business. Some writers and analysists have the Vikings in the top 10 as for strength of the roster already. This is a good thing. Im feeling an explosive team this season (like I always do), but this time, barring major injuries, this team looks to be built solid on both sides of the ball. The Vikes prooved last season they can hang with anybody against any defense pretty well, but defensively they stunk, but good improvement was made on that side of the ball via FA. I like what im seeing in Minnesota and so do a lot of other players as a large number want to be in purple this season and some even took a pay cut to be there.
just tired of him getting outcoached again and again just want them to go for it,now they do need a DE the same old is old is getting really old just want a SB Victory and elite status..if Zimmer has lost faith in Irv Smith Jr then trade him if he's not going to use him
I've been reading about Janarius Wright they seem to say good things about him hope he makes the roster and get coached up be nice to have another dynamic DE...Everson Griffen desperately wants to come back to the Vikings lol you burned some bridges here good luck to you
“I never should’ve left the Vikings,” Griffen told Allen. “I f–kd up. What I tweeted was wrong. The Vikings organization took great care of me through my ups and downs and I disrespected a lot of people.” What Griffen tweeted was “Kirk Cousins is ass” and to “ask [coach Mike] ZIMMER if he wanted Kirk.” Although the tweets were deleted, the damage quite possibly was done. Allen also explained that Griffen “desperately” wants to return to the Vikings. “He has people in his corner with the Minnesota Vikings, I feel comfortable in saying that,” Allen said. “And I would not rule out Everson Griffen joining the Vikings before the season, but I wouldn’t bet on it.” The Minnesota pass rush struggled in 2020, after the departure of Griffen and the neck injury that knocked out Danielle Hunter‘s entire season. Griffen had six sacks last year in 14 games (seven with the Cowboys and seven with the Lions), so he still has gas in the tank. A long-time captain of the Minnesota defense, there’s obvious familiarity and, at some level, lingering respect. It’s a move that could be made if Zimmer decides he’s not happy with his full slate of pass-rushing options, or if an injury happens. PFT
Jimbo Fisher laughed at NFL teams letting Dalvin Cook fall to the second round First-round running backs have become a rare breed in recent years, but Jimbo Fisher thinks one running back who lasted until the second round absolutely should have gone in the first. Dalvin Cook played for Fisher at Florida State before the Vikings selected him with the 41st overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, and Fisher told Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press that teams made a big mistake letting Cook last that long. “The Vikings got the steal of the draft in that one, I promise you,” Fisher said. “All the ones who didn’t think he was first round, I never understood that, and I used to laugh at that in that somebody’s going to regret that one day.” The 2017 draft, however, shows some of the perils of drafting running backs high. The first back chosen in that class, Leonard Fournette, was viewed at the time as an elite running back prospect, but he hasn’t had an elite career. Meanwhile, third-round running backs Alvin Kamara, Kareem Hunt and James Conner, fourth-round running back Tarik Cohen and fifth-round running back Aaron Jones have all been to Pro Bowls. Fisher said he watches the Vikings regularly to see how Cook is doing. “That’s my buddy,” Fisher said. “It doesn’t surprise me whatever he does. He’s as good as I’ve ever been around and as great of a player as he is, he’s a better person. He’s a workaholic, he’s a team guy. I love him to death. One of the all-time favorites I’ve ever coached. You talk about a competitor and a warrior, you can’t say enough great things about him.” PFT
oh btw I'm sick and tired of Aaron Rodgers crap if he's going to stay in Green Bay fine ok then or he goes another team, must be a slow offseason yeah he's very good qb but the NFL does not revolve around him neither does the world
Minnesota’s two best wideouts are both players who can do damage in the slot. Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson have both thrived as slot receivers and also made plays out wide. For the Vikings, it’s Thielen who ranks in Touchdown Wire’s top list of best slot receivers in the NFL. Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire wrote: “Thielen was the team’s most reliable and estimable slot receiver last season, catching 26 of 34 targets for 326 yards and five touchdowns. Thielen doesn’t have the jets he used to, but he understands his role, and he’s certainly capable of taking advantage when a bad defense (Hello, Cowboys) overspills to Jefferson.” Players like Cooper Kupp and JuJu Smith-Schuster ranked ahead of Thielen, which is definitely debatable. Also, Tyreek Hill claimed the No. 1 spot on the list, which is hard to argue against. VikingsWire
Harrison Smith: I don’t plan to leave Vikings, but the NFL is the NFL Vikings safety Harrison Smith said recently that he’s “going to look at those things and see what we can do” about extending his stay with the team now that he’s in the final year of his contract. During an appearance on the All Things Covered podcast with Bryant McFadden and Vikings teammate Patrick Peterson, Smith reiterated his desire to remain with Minnesoa while using something Peterson said on a previous episode of the show to acknowledge how long relationships between players and teams can come to an end. “Yeah,” Smith said, via Will Ragatz of SI.com. “I mean I don’t know what happens at the end of careers. I was listening to, it might’ve been the [episode] with Champ [Bailey], Pat Pete was saying at that ten-year mark, sometimes things change. I don’t plan on that happening, but the NFL is the NFL. It’s always wild. But I’ll always consider myself a Viking no matter what.” Peterson signed with the Vikings after 10 years in Arizona, so his comments come from personal experience that Smith hopes he’ll be able to avoid. Linebacker Anthony Barr reworked his contract with the Vikings earlier this year and cut his salary for this season in exchange for becoming a free agent after the 2021 season. If this is Barr’s final year in Minnesota, he thinks the team is positioned to send him out with a bang. Barr missed almost all of last season with a torn pectoral and the Vikings also have defensive back Danielle Hunter, linebacker Eric Kendricks and defensive tackle Michael Pierce back from missing all or much of last season. They join veteran pickups Patrick Peterson, Dalvin Tomlinson, Sheldon Richardson, Bashaud Breeland, and Xavier Woods on a defense that also features five 2021 draft picks. All of that adds up to a group that could outperform last year’s defense by a wide margin and Barr thinks it can be part of a championship run. “I really do believe that we have a Super Bowl-winning team this year,” Barr said on KMSP. “Obviously there’s a lot of steps to get to that point, and I’ve been through good seasons and bad seasons with this team. But every time we’ve had a tough year, we’ve always bounced back. I really feel like this year is going to be special.” A defensive rebound doesn’t guarantee that they’ll make Barr’s grand prediction a reality, but the Vikings don’t stand much chance of reversing course if the unit isn’t dramatically better this time around.
