Why do people have so many negative things to say about Kellen Mond? i think he's going to be a pretty good NFL QB it's a good pick either way,Congats Rick you didn't let Mike Zimmer take over the draft...hope the O-line situation is solved
Vikings GM Rick Spielman: 'Right now, there's no question that Kirk Cousins is our quarterback' The Minnesota Vikings used a third-round pick on Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond, bolstering the QB room. It wasn't a move that should threaten Kirk Cousins' job in the short term. Vikings GM Rick Spielman told Adam Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio that the move simply followed their draft board and he selected a talented player who can grow in Minnesota. "Right now, there's no question that Kirk Cousins is our quarterback," Spielman told Schein on Tuesday. "What we wanted to do just like we do with everything else, as the board continues to fall, we want to get the best players available on our board. And Kellen (Mond) definitely checked the box there when we were able to get him in the third round. I did call Kirk the following morning and his agent, but we want to create competition right now behind Kirk. And we have two very young, talented guys, we feel, in Nate Stanley and Jake Browning, but to throw Kellen Mond in the mix, our coaches are very excited to work with him. So let's see where it goes. Let's see how quickly he develops. But our whole focus right now is just making sure we have enough depth and young, talented guys to develop at that position as we go into this season." Spielman's comment is a reiteration of what he noted after the Vikings made Mond the first of four third-round picks last Friday night. The Vikings are tied to Cousins, who is due to count $45 million against the salary cap in 2022 -- all dead money if cut -- through next season. Minnesota reportedly considered making a move to draft Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, for whom the Chicago Bears eventually traded up at No. 11. The potential interest in a first-round signal-caller, coupled with the Mond selection, suggests the Vikings are preparing for the eventual end of Cousins' run in Minnesota. For now, it's Cousins' show. "Kirk knows he's our quarterback," Spielman said of the conversation he had with the QB after drafting Mond. "His agent knows he's our quarterback. I just told him this is a player we want to work with, and like I said, try to create competition at the position behind you, just like we are at a lot of positions." By most accounts, Mond needs some seasoning before he's ready for the NFL show. Perhaps at that point, the Vikings will be prepared to move on from Cousins. NFL.com
I hope he and the Vikings take there time cause as of right now it's the Capt Kirk show! what the hell is going on in Green Bay looks like a major meltdown, Green Bay Packers football team and Aaron Rodgers ego man what a shit show
I just saw the schedule the Seahawks again the schedule looks ok,but every game is tough in the NFL and there are no easy games but the Seahawks it's either the pre-season or the regular season well at least it's here..the bye for the Vikings wish it was week 10 somewhere around there
Vikings trade Mike Hughes to Chiefs The Vikings declined the fifth-year option on the rookie contract of cornerback Mike Hughes earlier this month. On Thursday, the team moved on from Hughes. The Vikings have agreed to trade Hughes to the Chiefs, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Minnesota gets a 2022 sixth-round choice, and the Chiefs get Hughes and a 2022 seventh-round choice. Hughes, 24, ends an injury-plagued career in Minnesota after the Vikings made him the 30th overall choice in 2018. He appeared in only 24 games with seven starts. In 2020, Hughes played four games with two starts, recording one pass defensed. Hughes tore an anterior cruciate ligament as a rookie, playing only six games in 2018. He was on the field for 14 games in 2019 but did not appear in the playoffs because of a neck injury. Neck issues also limited Hughes to four contests in 2020. The Vikings placed Hughes on injured reserve in late October, and he did not come off the list. The Vikings added three-time All-Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson this offseason, a sign Hughes’ days with the team were numbered. The Chiefs’ cornerbacks room includes L’Jarius Sneed, Charvarius Ward, Deandre Baker, Rashad Fenton, Alex Brown and BoPete Keyes. Bashaud Breeland remains a free agent. Hughes has a pair of interceptions — one of which he returned for a touchdown — three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and 13 passes defensed in three seasons. NBC
Now I bet he go crazy there will be less pressure on him but I do wonder will the injury bug follow him to KC?
The Vikings have agreed to terms with sixth-round choice Jaylen Twyman, Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reports. Twyman gets a four-year, $3.65 million deal with a signing bonus of $174,940. The University of Pittsburgh defensive lineman opted out of the 2020 season. As a redshirt freshman in 2018, Twyman started once in 13 appearances and totaled 16 tackles, including 1.5 for loss. Twyman earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2019. He made 41 tackles, including 12 for loss, with 10.5 sacks and two pass breakups in 13 starts as a sophomore. He was the first interior lineman to lead the Panthers in sacks since Aaron Donald in 2013. Twyman is the nephew of Parnell Motley. NBC
Vikings sign draft picks Zach Davidson, Ihmir Smith-Marsette The Vikings have agreed to terms with a pair of fifth-round choices Ihmir Smith-Marsette and Zach Davidson, Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reports. Smith-Marsette, a receiver and kick returner from Iowa, received a four-year, $3.8 million contract, including a $318,960 signing bonus. Davidson, a tight end out of Central Missouri, receives a four-year, $3.78
Christian Darrisaw, Camryn Bynum agree to terms with Vikings The Vikings got their top pick in the 2021 draft squared away on the contract front on Friday. Christian Darrisaw was the 23rd overall pick in Cleveland last month and, per multiple reports, he’s agreed to terms on his rookie deal. It is a four-year contract with a team option for a fifth season. Darrisaw is a good bet to step right into the Vikings’ lineup as their left tackle. He started at the position for Virginia Tech the last three seasons. The Vikings took Darrisaw after trading the No. 14 pick to the Jets for No. 23 and two third-round selections. Defensive back Camryn Bynum has also agreed to terms with the Vikings. The fourth-round pick had 184 tackles, eight tackles for loss, a sack, and six interceptions at Cal. NBC
Glad to hear that..when are going to hold the NFL Draft at the US Bank it would so cool if they did,is it because the SB was played here is this the reason why
The Vikings now have signed six of their 11 draft choices. Running back Kene Nwangwu, a fourth-round pick out of Iowa State, is the latest. The team announced Nwangwu’s signing Saturday. Nwangwu will get a four-year, $4.23 million contract with a signing bonus of $752,800, Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reports. Nwangwu will compete with Ameer Abdullah for the third running back spot behind Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison. He also will compete with Abdullah and rookie receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette to return kickoffs. “I’m a competitor,” Nwangwu said Friday about battling Smith-Marsette. “I bet he’s a competitor, too. When two people are competing at high-end levels, it just makes a greater product in the end.” NBC/PFT
I was upset letting Mike Boone walk, but this Ihmir Smith-Marsette and Kene Nwangwu could be a good thing they might end up with a better version of Mike Boone..looks like Ameer Abdullah days might becoming to an end
Dakota Doizer really this nightmare just won't go away,I don't understand Mike Zimmer here do you really think he's going to get any better??
Report: Vikings plan to sign Evin Ksiezarczyk Free agent offensive tackle Evin Ksiezarczyk passed his physical with the Vikings, who intend to sign him, Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reports. Ksiezarczyk went undrafted in 2020 out of the University of Buffalo. He went to training camp with the Falcons. He played in The Spring League, appearing in one game with the Generals. Ksiezarczyk earned first-team All-Mid-American Conference honors in 2019 when he started 13 games at left tackle. The Vikings had Ksiezarczyk among five tryout players at their rookie minicamp. They also are signing cornerback Amari Henderson, per Tomasson.
is he just a camp body?cause I never heard of him maybe there's some highlights on YouTube I will look him up
Vikings sign Parry Nickerson The Vikings made an addition to their secondary on Monday. The team announced that they have signed cornerback Parry Nickerson. Nickerson was a Jets 2018 sixth-round pick and played in 16 games for the team during his rookie season. The Jets traded him to the Seahawks the next season and he moved on to the Jaguars without playing a game for Seattle. He played four games in Jacksonville and appeared in one game for the Packers last year. He has 27 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass defensed in those appearances. He joins a cornerback group that said goodbye to Mike Hughes when the Vikings traded him to the Chiefs last week. NBC/PFT
Vikings projected lineup... Kirk Cousins probably wasn't thrilled with the Vikings' decision to draft Kellen Mond in the third round, but it would take a blistering preseason by Mond to apply any pressure this season. This is a boom-or-bust offensive line, at best. Brian O'Neill is solid at right tackle and there are major question marks everywhere else. The Vikings will be counting on two rookies (Christian Darrisaw and Wyatt Davis) and two recent draft picks (Ezra Cleveland and Garrett Bradbury) to improve greatly. No quarterback rises and falls with his offensive line and play-calling more than Cousins, so the paragraph above represents a major concern. It was weird that the Vikings waited until the fifth round to draft a receiver this year. In a league where most teams are trying to find four quality wideouts, the Vikings looked content with two. (Albeit two great ones.) This group screams out for a late addition, whether in free agency over the next couple months or during training camp. I'm not sure what happened with this Vikings depth chart, which has a stars-and-scrubs feel. Suddenly it feels like almost every position group is vulnerable. A return to form for Danielle Hunter would cover up a lot of sins elsewhere. Giants import Dalvin Tomlinson can be a steady presence next to him, but this defensive line still doesn't stand up to the high standard of the Mike Zimmer era. I'm fascinated to see Patrick Peterson in a different scheme, but he was not able to hold up last season in Arizona against No. 1 wideouts. He and Cameron Dantzler, who flashed as a rookie, are part of another boom-or-bust group on a team full of them. Don't be surprised if Xavier Woods turns into a surprise Pro Bowl candidate. Zimmer's defense is a Candyland for smart safeties and Woods is an underrated player. I see the Vikings as one of the highest variance teams in the NFL. Eleven wins wouldn't be a shock; 11 losses wouldn't either. PER; NFL.com
