The Vikings are working on shoring up a defense that finished 27th in yards allowed and 29th in points allowed last season.

They agreed to terms with former Giants defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson earlier Monday.

Now, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports the Vikings are adding former Chargers linebacker Nick Vigil to a one-year deal that includes more than $1 million guaranteed.

Vigil, 27, spent only one season with the Chargers. He played 15 games with two starts, seeing action on 312 defensive snaps and 216 on special teams.

Vigil recorded 50 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.

He began his career in Cincinnati after the Bengals made him a third-round choice in 2016.

Minnesota is signing Dalvin Tomlinson to a two-year, $22 million contract with the Vikings, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

For a team as cash-strapped as the Vikings, that deal, in addition to Michael Pierce’s and Shamar Stephen’s contracts, are a lot to allocate to the defensive tackle position.

So it makes sense that the Vikings are moving on from Stephen. The team announced that it had released Stephen on Tuesday.

Vikings won’t tender Ifeadi Odenigbo, Mike Boone

The Minnesota Vikings will not extend restricted free agent tenders to either defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo or running back Mike Boone, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

The Vikings also have decided not to tender wide receiver Chad Beebe.

Odenigbo and Boone aren’t expected back with the Vikings after the team declined to tender them. The Vikings are hopeful of keeping Beebe with them on a lesser contract than a tender would be worth.

Odenigbo, a former seventh-round pick in 2017, has developed into a solid contributor during four years and three seasons played in Minnesota. He had seven sacks in 2019 as a rotational pass rusher off the bench. Last season, Odenigbo started all 15 games he appeared in and didn’t have quite the same sack output with just 3.5 on the year. However, he did increase his quarterback hits from 13 to 15 for the season.

Boone has been a preseason standout at times in Minnesota but has been stuck behind Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison on the Vikings’ depth chart. He saw just 11 carries last season for the Vikings. In 2019, Boone started two games due to injuries and managed to rush for 148 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in a Week 17 games against the Chicago Bears.

Why Beebe? I rather keep Mike Boone if given the chance he's an ok rb IMO

Bebe because of the Vikings being real short on 3rd receivers. Bebe's last season was decent too. I hope the Vikes pick up another WR in the draft.

Mike Boone just must be the expendable guy, but with Cook's injuries and Mattison being up n down, things could get tricky in the backfield. Id like to see another RB in Minnesota also.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter the Vikings are signing CB Patrick Peterson to a one-year, $10 million deal.

Peterson has played the entirety of his NFL career, which started in 2011, with the Cardinals so far. The 30-year old has made eight Pro Bowls and is a three-time first-team All-Pro. However, Peterson has been inconsistent. He had three interceptions, eight passes defended, but a PFF grade of 55.2 in 2020.

Peterson had an 82.5 PFF grade in 2018 and is young enough to have a resurgent season or two remaining in his career. Maybe a team like the Vikings can help him. Peterson has one year to prove his worth with Minnesota and land a big contract in the 2022 NFL offseason.

    Vikings restructure Adam Thielen’s contract

The Vikings and wide receiver Adam Thielen were talking about restructuring his contract early this week and they’ve come to an agreement about how to make it happen.

Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports that the restructure has been completed. It involved converting much of his $11.1 million base salary into a signing bonus with the cap hit spread across future seasons.

Thielen’s cap number has gone from over $13.468 million to $5.698 million as a result of the move.

There are three years left on Thielen’s contract. He is set to make over $12 million next season, more than $13 million in 2023, and $15.4 million during the final year of his pact.

This is going to make Badd Man happy, lol.

Kirk Cousins makes another $35 million today

Few NFL players have worked the system to their advantage better than Kirk Cousins.

The 2012 fourth-round pick, taken by Washington in the same draft that resulted in three first-round picks and a second-round pick being used to get Robert Griffin III, played out a pair of franchise tags in 2016 and 2017, earning $19.95 million and $23.94 million, respectively, before becoming a free agent.

He signed a three-year, $84 million contract with the Vikings in 2018, with a two-year, $66 million extension added in 2020. That extension includes a $35 million base salary for 2022 that, as of today, becomes fully guaranteed.

Cousins explained last month on PFT PM that he’s content to finish his current contract with the Vikings, with another extension or restructuring. Given the dynamics of the franchise tag (he’d be entitled to a 44-percent raise over his $45 million cap number in 2022), the Vikings won’t be able to keep him from walking away in 2023.

That’s possibly when he’ll reunite with Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco.

Wherever Cousins goes in 2023, he will have made $193.89 million over seven years. As of today, the last portion of it — $35 million in 2022 — becomes fully and completely guaranteed.

Oh man there stuck with this guy,and still no O-lineman and Riley Reiff is Bengals now to me this seems like chaos in the land of Skol,Mike Zimmer needs to be fired he's not a head coach but a defensive coach the Vikings need a head coach bad

  17. Badd_Man1 M.V.P. Vikings

The Kirk Cousins contract and the extension is crazy...I have one thing to say Rick Spielman needs to be fired

  18. Badd_Man1 M.V.P. Vikings

Well I have come to the sad conclusion the Vikings will never win a SB with Mike Zimmer as the HC I really don't think they want to be elite....just good sad
